It will be interesting to see if this move will get more people to try it out as Google is offering free access to Stadia Pro
Yep for two months
What seems odd to me is if I understand it properly; you still need to buy the games so why would you do that and be locked into using them on Stadia. Would it not be better to just buy them for console or PC?
The sooner this bullshit is side-lined for good the better.
It's so Effing stupid, they are giving you free access to their service so I can to "rent" games at full price from the cloud that are not mine in any way. What am a I getting free access to again?
@grieve4steve Found the Stadia user locked into playing overpriced, laggy games
No you can claim and play the free games with pro
@grieve "What is wrong with having the option of game streaming? If it's so bad, what are people worried about?" The market doesn't want it. People are afraid of streaming taking over traditional gaming and they have every right to considering the kind of companies behind its push. You and the rest of the bots pushing the problems under the rug does not help your marketing script. Besides, everyone knew this thing was horrible when it was revealed, trying to sell people the thing after this much time is a waste because the market passed over it's existence and Google doesn't seem to give 2 shits. I don't even know why they are even trying still because no updates or whatever coming in the future will fix the foundational problems that scares people away from it.
My hope is that this is the first of many moves towards a normal business model. First they make stadia pro free for two months, than permanently. Then they allow you to play games that you already own on pc and then on console without additional purchase. If this is the path they take and the cost to me is minimal I will give it a shot. Just not at where it stands right now.
@ Garethvk How is that odd? Can you play your copy of Uncharted 4 on an Xbox or Switch? If you buy Red Dead 2 on Xbox, can you use the same copy on your PlayStation?
Destiny 2 has all expansions included with the 2 months offer and Gylt is a Stadya exclusive included with it. Nothing more remarkable... for the moment.
It could be free forever, and I still don't want it
"Forever" is not listed in Google's vocabulary... If they want this thing to survive they need to make the full service free. The can make money on game purchases.
If' I'm understanding this correctly, you still need to pay the $129 start up fee, to get the two months free, which kind of defeats the purpose on the consumer point of view. From there you have a small pool of games to play for free, or you can buy games. When your subscription ends you lose access to the free games, but you keep full access to the games you paid for.
no you don't, all you need is to register, then you have access to 9 free games. You play in google chrome with keyboard and mouse or controller on your computer or laptop or chromebook or your phone if you have the right one.
I really Do Not want to purchase games from Google.
For whoever is curious, the free nine games are: GRID, Destiny 2: The Collection, Gylt, Serious Sam Collection, Spitlings, Stacks on Stacks (on Stacks), SteamWorld Dig 2, SteamWorld Quest, and Thumper. Of course, anything else you may want will be tailored to the service. The free games are a bit underwhelming in my opinion, but it is free for two months, which gives you ample time to test it out on different devices.
All old and casual games.
Grid isn't that old.
That game list is bad , especially if you are trying to lure ppl into paying full price for digital streaming games .
Thumper rhythm violence? How's that work streaming a rhythm game it would be a nightmare playing it with variable input lag.
Tried it with my crappy 17mbps connection and was perfect, had no issues.
No thanks! Playing the games that I enjoy on my Pro is just fine.
Yeah. A PS4 Pro I'm assuming.
Of course!! As of now this girl wouldn't play video games any other way.
Lulz. I look forward to the day when Google finally realizes this thing is dead and no amount of CPR is going to resuscitate it.
I feel bad for anyone who buys into stadia because I don't think it's going to servive longer than a year or two.
Even free access still won't keep this thing a float must be nice to be a big rich company and throw money at giant money pit. I like Microsoft's model if it costs too much money and it sells poorly cut the strings Zune being one and I was a little gut wrenched when they cancelled Windows Phone. I still have my Windows Phones due to lack of apps is what eventually tanked the phone I always thought they had a good looking UI at the time.
No thanks. Die already stadia.
I wouldn't play an online game streaming service for free, however, if they paid me, I would consider it. I would have to charge a lot, because playing an online streaming service would ruin gaming for me.
Id try it if theyd stop trying to make me buy their stupid overpriced $169 chromecast controller bundle for a invite code when i already have a chromecast ultra and a PC and a phone and controllers that work with all of those. Is it just cause im in Canada? Ive tried a couple times theres no way around it you need to get a beta code from that comedically expensive bundle
Free, hmmm, not good enough. Is there a chance they will pay me? To raise my interest.
Free to play games that you pay for ... go figure. They should just have a sub for access to all games period , like $10 a month for access to everything.
I'm still not interested, and if you can't tempt people even when it's free, then you have serious problems.
Real gamers aren’t easy stupid fans... this was google’s mistake.
I'm ready for my downvotes! I love Stadia. Just like I love my Xbox One X, My PS4 Pro, my Switch, and my Rig. It's a great platform, and it's definitely worth a try now that everyone can get in for free. The platform has gotten so much better since it first launched, and if you're going to be playing on PC with Chrome or Edge, I highly recommend the Stadia+ extension, which gives you additional neat options for tweaking some settings and seeing stats while playing. Have fun and stay safe, no matter what platform you choose or what games you play.
everyone has their own opinion, which some may or may not agree with. I personally have all systems and find nothing wrong with Stadia. Does it have its pros and cons, yes, but so does every other system. I personally love my stadia for division due to the fact the loading times are a huge difference compared to 2 to 3 minutes on ps4 pro. And before i get the whole lag crap, there barely is any from my experience. There are unlinking controller problems and the server has been acting up due to more and more people playing. But unless you try it for yourself, and with the proper setup, you can't say it's DOA like every youtuber click bait or that it's thrash. Try it for yourself and be honest about it (Digital Foundry is biased and lies like shit). I just get tired of the dumb reasons people go off on it for or the toxicity of the gaming community and had to say something.
Finally a good move from Stadia.
Complete rubbish, keep it.
If you want me to play games on Stadia, PAY ME. Free is too much.
Isn't that shit dead already? Whatever you are doing to help Stadia just stop it Google... Stadia project is a failure.
Lol. No, thank you.
Have you ever taken a dump, and found out there was no toilet paper? I get that same feeling when I sign up for Stadia pro for two months only to found no games and they are cheaper on Xbox/PS4. Geez, I have no toilet paper!!!! ITS WORTH MORE THAN THE GAMES ON STADIA AT THE STORE!!! I wish I could just use stadia to wipe my ass
They need to stop with this foolishness of charging people for games they can ONLY stream. If they just made it like streaming video services and allowed access to everything it would look more viable to people. But to charge for something people can only stream and not fully own (despite paying ownership prices) is absurd. And what's even more absurd is people sit here and defend this. Do you defenders even realize you're cheering for companies to take you right to ownership away by supporting things like Stadia?
Tried with mobile and Surface Pro... but with games like Destiny 2, Stadia adds too lag, image artifacts and servers go down before two hours of gameplay, in the worst moment... Only works for me with racing games. Too dark passages are full of image artifacts and makes it a bad experience that ruins titles like Gylt. Wired with a 1Gb/s and 0ms ping it works, but has those artifacts and server loss... as well as some imput lag with no official Stadia controller. This should be under closed beta, not as a 129$ product plus monthly cuotes.
So stupid. Yeah play “for free” by buying games on it then gave to pay additional monthly to play cuz now your games are stuck in there. No thanks. Shady.
If they paid me £20 an hour whilst i'm in this lockdown to play it, i might consider it.
If there was any positive for Google Stadia since their launch its been this pandemic and their smart decision to launch the free service. I am confident they will see a nice uptick of people giving the service a try. How it holds up in this 2nd round of interest could be make or break for them given so many ISP's have been throttling bandwidth during this time.... We shall see. (and yes, I did the trial for 2 months....reminder set to cancel in 2 months as well).
