Bleeding Edge / AltChar - Review

AltChar: Bleeding Edge is an out of left field play from Ninja Theory. A brash, fast paced arena brawler that is about as far removed from Hellblade as one could imagine. Thankfully, they've brought their ingenuity and attention to detail to what feels like the first step on a longer journey.

RpgSama1914d ago

Is this thing out? Wow, talk about games with absolutely no hype.

neutralgamer19921914d ago

When games being developed fir gamepass you don't need hype I guess

ThinkThink1914d ago

Exactly! It's more about discovery than hyping a game up. Curious if MS reduces their market budgets for their non tent pole games because of game pass.

porkChop1914d ago

The game was well into development before MS even bought them. It wasn't developed for Game Pass.

Petebloodyonion1914d ago

The problem isn't Gamepass, the problem lies simply on what Media wants you to discuss and on what it will translate to click.
Have you seen the numerous Gears 5, Ori and Bleeding Edge on Gamespot?
Well, there were barely articles (even Gears 5) but you can spot several articles related to Final Fantasy 7 because ppl will click on thems or article that gives fuel to the console wars.

As an example, there was an article here about GOG giving 15+ free games and almost nobody commented on the story.

JTGA1914d ago (Edited 1914d ago )

To be fair, there have been a lot of hands on opportunities (the insider alphas, the beta), plus as neutralgamer1992 says, it'll gain visibility and an immediate playerbase through Game Pass.

ThinkThink1914d ago

It comes out today, but it has been in and out of beta for the past few months. I believe we get a new character today as well.

IRetrouk1914d ago

It's been all over xbox, the dash, xcloud, betas, xbox players will know it's due.

darthv721914d ago (Edited 1914d ago )

I see advertisements all the time on twitter and yt and the xb dash.

timotim1914d ago

Don't get it twisted, gamers know its out and are hopping on it to at least try it out. And its not just Game Pass...Steam too. In fact its reviewing pretty positively right now on Steam.

I personally am really enjoying it but It would probably be doa without GP. I won’t dedicate a whole lot of time into it but I can see coming back every month to see what’s new. That’s why I think game pass is sweet. Gives developers the freedom to try new things without having to worry about sales.

JTGA1914d ago

"Gives developers the freedom to try new things without having to worry about sales."

That right there is why I think it works so well. All these Xbox Game Studios becoming multi team operations... Game Pass allows for this. Rare, Obsidian, now Ninja Theory - they've all got multiple bits and pieces on the go.

Skuletor1914d ago

With sales not being a worry, do you think devs will have to worry more about amount of downloads and user engagement more?

JTGA1914d ago

I reckon so! Especially because all first party stuff is on Game Pass.

Sounds like MS have the business model wrapped up though... sell Game Pass subs based on a wide variety of content, and structure their studios so they're able to work on multiple projects at the same time.

green1914d ago

User engagement would be the main thing. They can easily try out new modes, see how well it is used and then use that as an avenue to roll it on to bigger franchises. A really good way to experiment but also mitigate risks.

chiefJohn1171914d ago (Edited 1914d ago )

They should've delayed this. They shot themselves in the foot honestly. Too much ish going on that got ppl attention atm. I'm bout to try it out now tho. It's been installed but I was finishing Ori up

1914d ago
timotim1914d ago

Its possible this came at the exact right time too. Gaming sessions are up a ton because of the virus. People are playing games more right now than they have all year. Its on XGP for both console and PC as well as Steam...Xbox gamers are finishing up with Ori and then theirs Doom, but this is MP only...could provide gamers with a nice destruction if everything works out and good feedback is getting across.

JTGA1914d ago

I agree. I think the timing is ironically perfect. Xbox Game Pass will really help this.

BeOpenMinded1914d ago (Edited 1914d ago )

Surprised at how fun, went in w low expectations

JTGA1914d ago

Yeah I definitely wasn't sure at first, but there's something here!

averagejoe261914d ago

Another forgettable Xbox exclusive...

I wish they'd give me a reason to buy their console

Pickledpepper1914d ago

Another forgettable fanboy.
@averagejoe
Whats the matter? No games to play on your console of choice.
Why else would you be in a xbox/Microsoft article.

averagejoe261914d ago

Awww - Poor xbot got his fee fees hurt.

No need to worry about me - I'm drowning in awesome exclusives with my PS4 and Switch.

Don't worry lil buddy, one day your fanboyism will let you leave that terrible little gaming bubble you're in and play awesome games like the rest of us.

Pickledpepper1914d ago

Pmsl look at my profile pic lol.
Awwww poor little fanboy averagejoe.
I play more games on more platforms than you can probably count.

Ninja Theory Drops Bleeding Edge Development to Focus on Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II & More

Today Ninja Theory announced that content updates for its multiplayer combat game Bleeding Edge will cease.

Tech51605d ago

the game could have thrived with another studio partnering to add more characters and levels.
there are still old games still receiving partnerships like FH4 and Smash bros adding more to their multiplayer content. anyways can't wait to see more of Hellblade 2 game now that it's being at the center of focus.

BLizardXD1605d ago

game still has some very good animations. Hellblade 2 though is going to be sick running on UE5.

Genkins1605d ago

"Ninja Theory Drops Bleeding Edge"

PlayStation gamers - "good"

SpeedDemon1605d ago

I'm not a PS gamer and think it's a good move, there's no use in beating a dead horse.

Shiken1605d ago

TBH, Hellblade 2 is a much more important title to the XBox library.

Rachel_Alucard1604d ago (Edited 1604d ago )

You should be glad because now they can focus on something that isn't a steaming pile of shite. But no instead you'd rather have one group live in your head rent free for every single thing.

Christopher1604d ago

I think most PS fans will agree that this is nothing to do with Ninja Theory and they want them to make Hellblade 2. It is good to see them make a new game rather than hitch themselves longer to an IP that they really aren't getting the support they should get from Microsoft to advertise it and grow it with new content.

CobraKai1604d ago

Xbox gamers - “good”

SmokinAces1604d ago

You know what they say about assumptions. Just becasue a person thinks its better they focus resources on whats sure to be a better game then on a game that has reviewed very poorly and has very little interest from the gaming community doesn't make them a "Playstation gamer". Its 2021, time to grow up and stop with the fanboy nonsense.

Kilua1604d ago

Ok. Ninja Theory must double down on bleeding edge development. Im sure that will make everyone happy

Godmars2901604d ago

Not really, if this was suppose to show NT's competence as well as MS's "free hand" towards devs.

If, as many defend, this was an original project that suffered no micro-controlling influence.

gamer78041605d ago

Yah bleeding edge was not very good unfortunately

gamer78041604d ago (Edited 1604d ago )

That’s cool @343_guilty_spark just wasn’t my type of game, couldn’t get into the character designs or the melee

Kurt Russell1604d ago

I liked the cha design and the melee... the ropey server connection was what killed it for me. I think I smashed it for about 3 days, then dropped it.

Killer73nova1605d ago

Bleeding edge was fun for about 30 min but after that it’s just repetitive. They said it was just a game they’ve been working on for fun. But I’m glad they are putting everything into senua and I’m excited to hear about the “more”

I_am_Batman1604d ago

I'm kinda shocked that they've supported it for this long to be honest. I'm glad they are focused on more promising games now.

Hellcat20201605d ago

Too bad
The game just didn't deliver anything good or new
It was another game I didn't have to purchase due to Gamepass

I didn't expect much from Bleeding Edge but was still disappointed. It's like they were actively trying to make a terrible game.
