DOOM: Eternal: How to beat the Marauder

DOOM: Eternal can be a challenging game, and the Marauder boss (your first encounter with this sort of enemy) represents both a critical story moment and one of the absolute toughest parts of the campaign. Many of the weapons, tactics, and techniques that you've learned up to this point in the game don't serve you well in this fight, due to the Marauder's defensive abilities and the extremely compact arena in which the battle takes place.

Great article. My first encounter with the Marauder was a royal pain in my a$$ (I play on Ultra-Violence); but then once I found that middle distance, combined with circle straffing (to maintain said distance) I was able to dispatch him in a few goes. Once he launches that dog though it can throw you off - just focus on getting rid of it and again go back to circle straffing the Marauder (stopping only to farm imps to replenish ammo, armour and health).

Another pro-tip you forgot to mention though, that I found extremely helpful is upgrading the Dash ability (Faster Dasher) on the Praetor Suit so it refills faster. Being able to dash away from the Marauder and into those glory kills for health is an absolute must.

Fighting him one-on-one is okay for me, but when you have to fight him along with other demons, that's when the bullcrap begins.

The first time against this bastard took about an hour for me on the easiest difficulty

I haven't. got to this guy yet.. just got through the damn tough battle with the ones that you have to destroy the shield with plasma to deal damage and the they come off that hover thing.. tough!

ChipChipperson1875d ago

If it helps, plasma rifle to take down their energy shielding, then rocket launcher(specifically the lock on one, I've had the most luck with it) to deal with the hover tank that they're on. Their final phase where they no longer have their hover tank, try to use the chaingun's mobile turret, ballista or lock on rocket launcher. The mobile turret is very effective against the final portion of these guys, Barons of Hell and Tyrants. For the Marauder, when you do get to him, double barrel shotgun to stun him, quickly switch to your ballista and just use the primary fire mode of that weapon, charging any of its mods will take too long.

Borderlands 2/3 are my adhd games of choice.

For me it's always been fighting games like SF, Tekken, GG etc.. it really gets my mental stack flowing and forced to take a thinking approach as opposed to playing brain dead.
