Yeesh Sony Interactive Entertainment came so low at #22, far below Nintendo’s #3 and Xbox Game Studios’ #7.

Never thought I’d see the day.

Even more baffling is seeing Activision Blizzard come in second.

Gemmol1297d ago

Nintendo make quality games I can’t see any year where Sony will place higher

FallenAngel19841297d ago

Lolwut? There’s already been various years where Nintendo has been beaten by its direct competition in Metacritic’s rankings

2012 - Microsoft #1, Nintendo #2, Sony #3
2013 - Microsoft #2, Sony #3, Nintendo #4
2016 - Sony #3, Nintendo #6, Microsoft #14

Plus you also have to account for all the years Nintendo didn’t come in first yet a third party publisher like EA or Ubisoft did.

I’m not trying to flame a fanboy war, I’m just saying that the gap between Sony and its rivals was unbelievably large within these rankings.

Obviously these rankings shouldn’t be taken as gospel since there’s a lot of factors to consider, but still #22. The lowest any of the big 3 have gotten prior was Microsoft at #14

PhoenixUp1300d ago

There’s a disturbance in the force when Konami is ranked higher on this list than Sony.

Jin_Sakai1299d ago

That should tell you something right there. These rankings are a joke.

Do you understand how the website work?

Just because Sony is very low do not mean anything wrong with the website. All the website do is get the game scores from different websites and make an average for the game. This is much better than getting a review from one website because now you get to see what a collection of people think about the game. This is more of a fair way to get a better understanding why a game got that score it received and leave out bias websites who always give a good rating because they love that particular system.

Gemmol1297d ago (Edited 1297d ago )

Sony need to just make better games to get a higher rating so it can rank higher. This the problem with the internet people rather bias score because the game is made for their preferred platform. I rather get the avg number from taking the review scores from many websites to get a better idea on how well the game is vs getting score from one website who may be bias.

Not sure I agree with these stats including releases of old games on new platforms. That's double-dipping, IMHO. It's not unlikely that those releases of games won't be high scoring ones, to begin with, now they get to be counted twice?

Overall, 2019 based on the GotY events was not the best one overall for "stellar" games and had a ton of mediocrity and delays to 2020 in it.

TheOptimist1300d ago

Idk why people even follow Metacritic.

Gemmol1297d ago

You do know all the website do is collect videogame scores from different websites and make an average so we get a better idea about the game.

Picking one website because they give bias score to your favorite system is not helping the gaming community and this why many people think a game is good then buy it and have regrets.

A website that shows everyone opinion is way better than a website that show only one opinion.

Just face it your company games wasn’t well received if anything they should use this as motivation instead of favoring websites with bias reviews that do not help developer improve on his game making him think everything is okay.

PhillyDonJawn5h ago

How's the online for RDR2? I couldn't get into the online portion at launch. I hoped they'd improve it over time

shadowT11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

Can't wait! Spider-man 2, Final Fantasy XVI, Baldur’s Gate 3, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and many more great games. 'Game of the Year' will be this year a difficult choice!

Ashunderfire868h ago

Alan Wake 2 and Lords of The Fallen should be in there too.

Can't freaking wait! I only have one tiny nitpick from everything I've seen so far. The ground clutter. There is a ton of pop-in going on when moving around with small rocks and foliage. I hope they can touch that up a bit before release. The game itself looks like everything I could have hoped for! I hope there are a ton of different cards to collect, for Queen's Blood.

nommers22h ago

So glad they're bringing a card game to a FF game again

andy8522h ago

Given it's an SSD game now I really hope that's cleaned up closer to release.

Becuzisaid13h ago

I think they've said the demo we're seeing is several months old. Hopefully it already is fixed but most open world games seem to have a problem with vegetation pop in or density

CrimsonWing6920h ago

Man, this is one of those games where when I saw the gameplay, I could tell immediately they’re raising the bar. I can’t tell you how hyped I am for this! It’s not crazy far out, but the wait is still getting to me.

There’s also Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Persona 3 Remake to juggle before then. Dang, 2024 is a good time to be a JRPG fan.

andy8519h ago

And LAD Gaiden and I still haven't finished Sea of Stars 🤣

gold_drake19h ago

oooo boy i cant wait, im already dodging news and gameplay like a pro haha

Trilithon18h ago
