Tom Hopkins writes "EA Sports and FIFA 20 haven't had a good week. The esport qualifiers (FUT 20 Champions Cup) have continued their trend of being pretty embarrassing."
Microsoft has rolled out an update on the Xbox Game Pass store page and app to reflect the games that will be leaving Xbox Game Pass.
The Last Stop, Fifa 20 (being replaced with 22) Jurassic World Evolution, MotoGP 20.
I won't miss these.
EA have announced in their online service updates notice that FIFA 20 will not be playable on EA Play from July 1, 2022.
Alex S. from Link Cable Gaming writes: "There are no two ways about it, 2020 sucked. Many will remember the last 365 days as some of the most trying in living memory and are more than thrilled to cast our 2020 calendars into a large fire. But we can’t really move into 2021 with a clear conscience without totally confronting all the negative things that happened in 2020, including video game releases."
It really hurts to see the XIII Remake in that list. I loved the original game and bought the remake without reading reviews, that was a big mistake. It is sad what they have done to this game.:(
The list became a shit list as soon as Cyberpunk was listed. Just because you played it on your shit base console, doesn't make it one of the worst games of 2020.
F&F Crossroads & PC3 were dumped on gamers by Codemasters knowing they were going to get taken over by Take Two or EA. It was a last ditch attempt to get rid of those steaming piles of dogs mess.
Cyberpunk does not belong in this list. After seeing the many many positive reviews for Tamarin (it has a 72% positive rating on Steam) I also doubt it belongs in a list of disappointing games of the year.
Cyberpunk is a bad game folks. No AI and a rushed incomplete story. Graphics are the only thing it has going for it. Difficulty is completely busted as well.
None of them can be taken seriously, they are ALL embarrassing.
Well, the suits at EA with their inflated salaries will just contribute some spin while the leaders will make sure the ship is sinking. Horrible company but not as bad as Nestlé or Monsanto.
To summarize the article:
- Games taking place at official tournaments having random disconnects in the middle of matches despite the players literally sitting in the same room.
- Some players were forced to play Rock, Paper Scissors to determine the match winner due to matchmaking issues. Yes, in an official tournament.
- Rampant bugs in the game. In one penalty shootout, a player scored a goal, the ball hitting the back of the net, but the game didn't count it as a goal because it hit the post before going in. Tournament officials ruled in favour of the game, instead of what they actually saw with their own eyes and he was eliminated from the tournament.
- Referee mistakes are known to happen regularly. The ball sometimes clips through players' legs. Random moments of input delay. Basically, the game is broken.
- The game system actively punishes players who maintain ball possession in the first half, giving the opposing team benefits and ensuring higher shot accuracy, leading to bizarre tactics in order to win.
- Spending real life, actual money on your account gives you an advantage in game, to the point you might as well be forced to spend $1000+ just to be on the same footing as other high ranked players.
- Tekkz, known for being one of the best FIFA players of all time, criticized FIFA 20 publicly at an event and was subsequently banned permanently from all future FIFA events. Not just FIFA 20, but all FIFA games, forever. At the time of him saying this, he was due to play in the semi-finals, so he wasn't just being salty for losing, either.
Honestly, I have never heard of a bigger s***show when it comes to eSports. It is baffling to me how this much can go wrong.
No "esports" can be taken seriously
Until they remove scripting no sports game should be taken seriously.
