Resident Evil 3 producer explains why they redesigned Jill Valentine

Resident Evil 3 producer Peter Fabiano has spoken to Edge magazine about redesigning Jill Valentine for the remake.

The original design of mini skirt and strapless top, did not make any sense within the context of the game. It was a cheap fanservice, and looking ridiculous today. I am very grateful that Capcom has stopped listening to reactionary gamers and has taken the path of a design that makes sense.

Agreed. I still laugh at all the people who shit on Ada's new design in REMake 2, when it was much more sensible wear for a zombie apocalypse, especially since Ada had prior knowledge of the Raccoon City outbreak before she arrived.

I didn't hate Ada's design in the RE2 Remake, hell I liked it, using old concept art of her from the original RE2

@MadaoBlooms exactly. Options are good! Jill's strapless top and skirt are now an iconic part of the character for me, I'm completely down for Capacom designing her as they see fit as long as I can play her in the same outfit as I remember.

I think it would have been good if she was wearing her original outfit at the start of the game, like how Leon wasn't wearing his police outfit until after the intro, then she goes back to her apartment and changes to something better suited.

You really criticizing something like that? The entire series features characters in clothing that, taken as individual articles look contemporary and realistic enough, but the combined effect somehow looks distinctive

- Ada Wong wears an ankle length evening dress while fighting hordes of zombies in Resident Evil 4.

- Claire Redfield 2 comes in Raccoon City on a motorcycle, but is just wearing cutoff jean shorts, a vest, gloves, and some spandex onesie underneath. No motorcyclist would ever do that, unless they didn't mind some serious windburn.

Claire's original design looked very odd - straight out of an 80s/90s anime OVA. And Leon starting his first day on the job in police uniform made no sense. So I get the design changes there.

But Jill's design change looks worse in my opinion. My issue is that her outfit is far too generic. Straight out of an edgy zombie flick. Luckily, her original outfit is included as pre-order DLC. Some say it's out of place in a zombie apocalypse but considering that Jill had no idea the city she's in was going to hell, it makes sense for her to be in a casual outfit.

Jill and the rest of the remaining Stars team members were doing everything in their power to warn people about the T-virus outbreak. The mansion and underground lab exploded, but there were already cases of zombie attacks in the city (this is even why Bravo team was sent to investigate it in the first place).
