1. More powerful + lower price point at launch
2-10. Games

4. PlayStation Now

Really? I don't think so. PS Now has been an afterthought for most of the gen and didn't really gain very much traction until the domination was already complete. I'd say PS Now benefited from PS4's domination and not the other way around.

PSNow is cheaper ( if we look at the regular price, not deals ) than Game Pass and doesn't require PS+ for online like Game Pass. Gamepass Ultimate ( if you want to play online ) is 180$.

RazzerRedux1508d ago

Ok? Not sure what any of that has to do with my point that PS Now wasn't really a reason for PS4's domination.

.Maybe it is just because of the price alone + streaming including.

For most of this gen, the price of PS Now has been ridiculously high. I think you are trying to discuss things as they are now, while I am talking about things as they have been across the entire generation. PS Now, for most of this gen, was a high priced service that most didn't want. That has changed as the service has evolved and grown more desirable, but this simply isn't why PS4 was dominant. PS4 was better envisioned, better priced, had top-notch first party support, and frankly, PlayStation is a bigger brand. PS Now had very little to do with PS4's dominance.

About 4 months ago, Sony said it's had about 1 million users since it's inception. Somehow, I have a hard time counting that as a boon for the console itself. Even assuming every person brought a PS4 because of PSNow, that would account for less than 1% of the sales. Since there were PC players, and likely many PS4 owners who may have just payed after not cancelling their free trial, I think chances are that percentage is much lower.

You only need one, games, games and more games

I thought it was the PS Camera that made it successful. /s

Less sarcastically, and probably more ironically, the PS Camera was quite popular early on, often selling out and going for double the price on Ebay because of the social features that Sony built into the PS4.

Some may not have noticed, but MS made it a point to say that social features were going to be a big part of the XSX, and that is likely due to the success Sony has had with their PS4 social stuff, and the increased demand that such things have gotten over the course of the generation. It's kind of funny that something like Kinect would be more desirable long after MS abandoned the project.

Playstation has worldwide support. Microsoft's Xbox barely tries outside US and UK. Microsoft's Xbox pretty much ignores asia, other parts of europe, middle east, japan and so on.

MS just thought all the pc windows gamers worldwide bk in 2001 would migrate to xbox which never happened.
PlayStation has been known for games, trust, diverse adult and family games, cd, dvd etc since ps1.
All the kids (now mums and dads) from the 80s and 90s have so many memories of playstation that it's a global brand now and they buy their kids playstation or Nintendo or both because of that.
MS has had a awful gen at roughly 48m xboxes sold but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to assume millions of them got but hurt this gen and will also migrate to playstation nxt gen.
The mind boggles why you would support xbox again after 6 years of hardly nothing (forza, witcher 3, ori, rdr2. Jeez they've concentrated more on controllers this gen than games? WTF which is laughable.
I keep hearing my friends play xbox so that's where I go (sheep) or I prefer the controller? Like wtf do xbox gamers ever think hmmmm wouldn't I like the exclusives playstation has.
If I was sony I'd make the Xbox controllers compatible with the nxt playstation and I'd bet you'd see the prefer the Xbox controller gamer come straight across to playstation?
