I like consumer friendly things like this but this must have some counter measures because this will become free rentals.

The article states that there is an awareness for the fact that this could be abused and that refunds will be a case by case consideration. If they played the game for 30 hours, beat it, and are now trying to lie their way to a refund, they'll be absolutely denied. I'm also pretty much certain that GoG has an internal soft cap decided on what will be absolutely approved, and anything that exceeds that will get dumped into a review bucket.

There are bound to be some people that find a way to abuse it, but you can also guarantee that frequent refund attempts will end up getting an account flagged.

There’s been a claim floating around for a while now that GOG’s launcher software had been phoning home secretly sending information without consent. GOG categorically denied it so recently someone publicly released proof - is this GOGs PR apology?

The best gaming platform to me.

WOW! I commend them, but how do they prevent someone from beating the game, only to return it in those 30 days...

Xbox does a 2 week, 2 hour policy.

"Therefore, refund requests will be tackled on a case-by-case basis, and GOG maintains the right refuse refunds in certain situations. This caveat probably implies the company won’t offer refunds to players who buy games and beat them before the 30 day refund window expires."

Good look Razz. So a refund isn't guaranteed then. Seems time consuming for them and could be situations where a gamer put in a certain amount of hours due to getting up and leaving the game running but truly didn't like the game.

Competition in the PC realm is a great thing.

Very nice to hear this. I hope more follow suit, because you don't always find a game-breaking glitch or realize the game gets much worse in a small two-hour window.

As someone who has been gaming nearly as long as gaming has been around (since the early 70's), you'd think I'd be against this. Having grown up with all the major platforms and the whole notion of physical ownership... but I'm not. i embrace this as it is a revolutionary convenience. And one i know for a fact many (especially here) have not even given the fair chance to use. I get it... i was there too. But now i have a new outlook on it. It really is a hell of an option if you just want to play with no commitments. By no means am i saying this should replace traditional gaming, its an option. And one that people should look at optimistically as a way to compliment traditional gaming. There is room for both to thrive.

I tend to use streaming on new games in GamePass. To see if I like the game. If I do, I'll download it for a better experience. It's so convenient & useful.
