BioWare is rebooting Anthem into an "Anthem 2.0" of sorts. And it seems as though everything is riding on this attempt to right the ship.
Crazy thought, but why the hell can't EA just let Bioware focus on the franchises where it has excelled: Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and for the love of God......KOTOR!
Took the words right from my soul. They need to just leave Anthem, its not worth the dev time. Focus on your successful franchises and bring them back up to par.
They turned KOTOR into TOR had threw Mass Effect into the dumpster with Andromeda and from what I’m hearing the next Dragon Age game is going to be another disaster.
Andromeda had a rough start but the series was far from unsalvageable. It could have turned into a great series of its own. The existence of SWTOR doesn't mean KOTOR cannot be revived as a single player game. Hopefully Jedi Order makes EA they are under-utilizing the Star Wars franchise. I'm keeping an open mind on DA 4. DA:I was great.
@RazzerRedux Yeah I played through Andromeda (because I'd already bought it). It wasn't terrible. It was ok. The biggest problem was me knowing nothing would happen with the game after the game. The original Mass Effect games you knew choices mattered in the long run as well as the short term. But yes the huge empty planets were also a downside. And in their desire to make the wokest characters possible, they didn't give them any hard edges. The story, while not awful, was just kind of "ok sure". Overall I'd give it a 6/10. It was hard to know how much was my predetermined apathy though since I knew the series wasn't going anywhere anytime soon after the game. I'll still never understand why they painted themselves into such a corner with ME3. Defeat the reapers or don't. Why kill off future possibilities even when you beat them? I would have loved to see new Mass Effect games in the Milky Way galaxy based on a successful victory ending. I mean I guess you could do something based off the ending where you essentially enslave the Reapers to do your bidding. But then you're just recycling the old villian unless you create a threat even bigger than the Reapers that you need the Reapers to fight off or at least their tech.
I would like to see a game that takes place far before KOTOR
@Razzer I really hope DA4 goes back to the original formula. As far as I can remember, I had the most flexibility with my characters in the first. DA22 I only played as a warrior with a greatsword, and I may as well have just put in Devil May Cry. Sold that shit. DA3 (my first PS4 game, because I heard it was oh so great) felt like a sad attempt to rival Skyrim, and I just kinda forgot about it once Destiny came along (lol.) I don't mind lesser sized maps; it's the quality of what's contained in them. 2 literally felt Dynasty Warriors; wipe hordes of baddies corridor after corridor. So I hope there's a balance between that and 3's overabundant generic zones.
@FullDive Yeah something of Ancient SW lore would be cool [in my opinion.] Namely something around the first Mandolorian-Jedi war. But anything before Old Republic might not resonate with less than supergeek fans. Also, since that era is slathered in war, they'd most likely find that the perfect excuse to make yet another mass PvP. The Mandolorians would probably play like the jetpack dudes in Tribes (anyone remember that one?) and Jedi would have feats of stren...I mean force. .....Yeeeah we just need another impactful RPG kthx.
Or just give them creative freedom. That'd likely yield great results.
Maybe they are hoping to turn things around like Fortnite did. I know the fortnite we have now was nothing like it was when it first came out. It because something even bigger than Epic imagined all because they picked the right time to reinvent themselves. As for Anthem... Im not sure if the same results will pan out but good luck to them.
Well, all Epic had to do with Fortnite was add a battle royale mode. I wouldn't call that reinventing the game. That and porting to iOS and Android blew the game wide open. Anthem needs a true "reinvention" and it is going to require more than another game mode. Thankfully, I think Bioware knows this and yes, I hope it works. I was an early defender for Anthem being part of the closed beta and I was truly excited for the game. I'll happily give it another go if they can fix its many problems.
Because bioware doesn't exist anymore. They all left, it's bioware in name only.
Did you forget the mess that was Andromeda?
No I did not. I liked Andromeda and the series was far from unsalvageable. The game should have been delayed 6 months or so but ultimately it wasn't a bad game at all. It certainly didn't rise to the standards of the original trilogy, but that doesn't mean it was a "mess".
Bioware is already broken. Thanks EA. EA is close to being as bad as Konami.
Yeah the old blood that gave us the true Bioware gems are long gone now. Bioware today its just a husk of their former self, another clog in the EA machine. Hell, I'm more excited about Respawn and Dice these days rather than anything Bioware is doing.
Not rated dice for years, not a fan of their engine being forced in to all EA games when most dev teams don't have a clue how use it Dragon age inquisition and Andromeda are a great example of poor engine support.
"Yeah the old blood that gave us the true Bioware gems are long gone now." Yes, all that "Bioware Magic" made them disappear.
EA was worse than Konami for a long time. Then Konami went warp speed and blew by them. But EA is as bad as ever.
I would argue that EA is worse. One of them self sabotages. The other will acquire smaller studios that people love and rip out their souls, sabotaging themselves, which now includes another formerly-independent studio.
Make or break? They’ve already been broken for a while just like their games.
This will be a beautiful car crash.
I will check it out depending on if its free, or a low price. I would spend $20 for a good Anthem overhaul, I was one of the people who really like the gameplay, Javelin designs, and the graphics. The bad loot is what ruined it for me, and the lack of end game content. I say bring it on with proper everything and put it on next gen systems as well.
hopefully they can salvage it. I actually liked the game world and the graphics engine.
Lol, the fickle nature of gamers is silly. No this isn't. Plain and simple.
I don't have much faith.
Worth getting hold of a cheap origin key just in case you get a massive update for free and it ends up being quite good.
Great shout. Cheers.
So I remember playing the demo, and it wasn’t all that bad. Visuals were good and the mechanics were pretty much nailed down. From what I’ve gathered since it’s official release, the story is lackluster and the loot system is less than desirable. I recall the dev controversy surrounding the game in general. Blind leading the blind. I picked it up for $5, but haven’t played it yet. Does anyone really think a 2.0 content overhaul can make it worth while?
I enjoyed anthem and at it is core its a cool game. But it's dead...It's broken...Bioware needs to remaster ME1-3 and get back on track. It would be awesome if EA just let them be.
K well rather than complaining, how about we as a gaming community give some solid ideas on how the game could be better. Remove the story 3d sequences in the tower, make the game as fluid as possible, you should always be in the game world, towns and cities can exist in the game world, make secrets everywhere, have chests give meaningful rewards, have a merchant p2p system where you can sell your gear to other players with in game money. have a pvp arena that you can enter via the game world, have a selectable pvp world where anything goes with different types of arenas for fight types, remove loading screens if possible. Well there's a few from the top of my head.
I love how they make out dragon age inquis was a good game, you compare ME:A and DA:I both have lack luster story's both have crappy character design, dragon age was a bunch of plastic NPCs esp the player character. Both boring opening world games that feel like MMOs dragon age suffers more from the mmo feel. ME:A was just a more streamlined version of DA:I with guns in space apart from that dragon age was rated so highly they created more of the same then got slated for animations when both games are as bad as each other.
I doubt it ..they will just start using Unreal Engine in future projects and have much smoother development times...of course Dragon Age is too far a long .
On the one hand, why On the other hand, it shows respect to existing customers I guess
I would love to play a single player rpg in the world of anthem but I don’t think that’s the game they want to make
Is it just me or does the thumbnail not make any sense?
ikr! looks like bioware is trying to block anthem 2.0 lol
Why can't EA/Bioware just accept that Anthem was a failed project and move on to a different project? 2020 is packed with great games and the release of new consoles (PS5/Xbox Series X). People have already moved on from this game.
Just another nail in the coffin.
Bioware just isn't the same ever since the 2 Doctors left. They put out some kick ass games in the past! I wish only them to return to that time
I think Dragon Age 4 is the real make-or-break for Bioware.
Knowing EA I can see this playing out like so. 1. They release a 2.0 version of the game which actually turns out to be quite good overall. 2. It is hindered with either a paywall to the 2.0 update, crazy micro-transaction system or otherwise a shameless grab for more money. I hope not but we'll see...
Remember when Blizzard and Bioware were top of the class studios back in the early 2000s? It's sad to see what they've become. Any company who thinks it'll never happen to other studios like Rockstar or CD Projekt Red is just delusional. Enjoy the products of today while it lasts. No king rules forever.
Make or break? I would disagree seeing as the studio has many other titles that they could focus on. One bad game doesn't close the door for a studio who's sold multi-million copies of games. In fact I think Anthem is getting a smaller less managed team to save money and focus on new projects. Anthem 2.0 is probably allowing bioware to gain more control as games like Apex have shown that the studio knows how to build better games than the publisher.
If Bioware & EA believe they can salvage the game & put it on the map I say more power to them. Other games have been in the same predicament, they were revised & turned out well. It's evident they believe in the game & want it to succeed, it's their money. Good luck to them to try & accomplish that feat.
lol Anthem 2.0 sounds like slang for a disaster waiting to happen
I have optimism, but that's via ignorance. I only played the beta...for a few hours. Yes, I saw bugs galore, yes the formula was overdependent on "teamwork" that no one wanted to do. But you know what? I loved the gameplay. I'm an exosuit freak and playing it made me feel like Iron Man redesigned by Yoji Shinkawa. Never played the full ver, just sat back watched it burn in a fire I could see from my comfy seat on the moon. So I really hope they reform it into something that respects players' intelligence and plays fluidly. I'm itchin to swoop down on something and barrage it with seeker rockets again.
If EA can actually back off like they did with Respawn, then things can start getting better for BioWare. It is going to be very hard because a lot of the old talent left. BioWare needs to go back to the formula that worked well for many years.
BioWare has been dead for a decade now. All the talented devs they once had are long gone. You will only get break
the game lacks soul honestly, I don't think they can patch that in... I'd rather they put all their efforts into dragon Age and mass effect.
Hopefully Dragon Age is pushed out before the doors close. I'd like the chance for one more solid release in the franchise.
I hope for the best to BioWare and Anthem. Been playing the game again since Cataclysm update and never move away again. Most people in community talks doing negative comments are actually don't know the current state of the game and the playing experience, so I can understand their behaviour. Sure the game is probably not for everyone, but personally I have so much fun since I came back to play the game. There is so much hope for Anthem 2.0 despite people saying doubtful and negative comments. I will let BioWare do their things and I hope for the best so the company could prove that they could fix their failure in the past. No Man's Sky, Final Fantasy XIV, etc, are some of the games that might inspire BioWare to at least do amazing things to fix Anthem, even if everyone else is doubtful and think it has no hope.
The only humane thing to do is to put it down.
