I’m Bored of Dragon Ball Z Games Re-Telling the Same Story

BY FRANKLIN: How many times can Bandai and other developers reuse the original Dragon Ball Z story in a video game? The vast majority of Dragon Ball Z games features the original stories from the manga and anime.

Players are not getting new material from this experience, with each game featuring repetitive content that we’ve seen dozens of times before. I can’t think of another video game series that has reused content to this degree.

They could just do a new story, as they have done time and time again for the movies, they do not necessarily have to be Canon, but they can definitely make something new

An open world Dragon Ball game with kid Goku would be amazing. A Dragon Ball Super game would be really cool as well. GT? Maybe not.

But since GT is hated, I doubt we will.

But it would a breath of fresh air for dragon ball.

DBZ Fighter Z story the some of the hottest of hot garbage that ever exists. To be exactly fair, the entire story of DBZ isn't the greatest story ever written either. It really thrives on a lot of nostalgia from fans. But if you sit down and think about it, the story is about as unimaginative as it gets. Every arc is just the exact same repetitive thing. The only person who has the most interesting story development is Vegeta and that's it. Goku just keeps getting stronger for no other reason other than the fact that he's the main character. No one cares of course, including myself because it's just cool to watch him power up and fight.

Not impossible but if I'm in the DB universe I want to see Goku, Krilin, Vegeta, Piccolo, Yamcha, Master Roshi, etc.

Can always have a game, a series of games, that lead to one of the DB team. Could even have one where Goku's presented as a bad guy, someone you have to beat, only to find out the truth, been pointed at him by the real villain, team up but still fight him - because, Goku.

Just asking for some imagination. Creativity.

We’ve had a number of Dragon Ball games with original scenarios though

Make a Dragon Ball Super Tournament of Power story arch game, or the entire Super saga with Goku Black and Destruction of the Gods, if any of that storyline hasn't been tackled yet.

How about Dragon Ball Super: Broly game based off the movie.

I haven't played the last BDZ Kakarot game yet so I'm not sure if any of the Super stories are included.

I think it's just Dragon Ball Z. I got the game but haven't started yet so I don't know for sure but I think it's just the Z storyline.

I only asked because in Fighter Z there are Super characters like Goku Black and Jiren.

In Dragon Ball Xenoverse2 I can hear Kale and Kalifah talking, but that's understandable for a Xenoverse game.

I will eventually get the Kakarot game but I've noticed a lost of dexterity in my hands when it comes to playing fighting games now, and games in general but to a lesser extent. I can hardly play a frenzied game like Fighter Z without my hands cramping. Sucks to be getting older.

It's only the original Z arcs, although they have Super character models in the game file so it's clear they intended to do Super

Thanks, I was just saying in another reply above that in Fighter Z there are Super characters. So just because this new game is called Dragon Ball "Z": Kakarot it may still include some Super characters.

That's because FighterZ isn't restrained to DBZ only. The name is Dragon Ball FighterZ. Like a clever way to spell "Fighters".

Xenoverse is about the time stream and is also not restrained to only the main DBZ story.

This is literally called Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. It's just DBZ. The only thing I can see them adding would be the DBZ movie content. But those are not canon, so who knows?

Xenoverse i realise that it's an all encompassing game so they could pull from anywhere within Dragon Ball if they wished.

Well, I for one just started watching dragon ball last week. Im half way through Z now and im enjoying every bit of it. So for me , a person who just started watching the anime. This game is basically made for me and for People who just starting watching the anime between 2018-2020

You should just watch Dragon Ball Abridged on YouTube. You will get the same story in less than half the time and you will laugh your ass off while doing it.

Would be way more interesting than retelling of the same story a gazillion times.

An expanded/more fleshed out version of A History of Trunks would make an excellent game/DLC/expansion for a base DBZ game. Or game that features the movies but in game form and each could be an independent chapter or "episode" of the game. Just something to mix it up.
