Call of Duty Marketing Seemingly Sticks with Sony in PS5 Launch Year

Ownership over the marketing of the Call of Duty franchise might not be quite as important as it was at the beginning of the PlayStation 4 generation, but it's still something worth having under your belt. Sony has held the rights to advertising Activision's mammoth first-person shooter series for more than four and a half years now, and it looks like that partnership is set to continue into the next generation of consoles

Is only natural that Activision will stick with the number 1 console in the market.

We are going to see other new partnerships on the PS5 reveal.

Most will continue to use playstation for the marketing as the devs know they've had 4 from 4 successful gens and the devs also know we buy and support our games and wil continue to do so.

Plus the devs will look at MS and go why should go with MS for marketing when all MS does is £1 for 3 months GP.

Its like the "cash out" option on betting sites, you can either take MS money up front and potentially lose millions in profit cause your game was more successful than you thought or take the risk and take it all.

Imagine if the fortnite devs took a lump sum off MS say 50million, that would have cost the studio billions in profit?

Marketing deals, timed content etc are stupid regardless of who it is as all it does is get people arguing/ bragging about it

Kiwi

Yes while your sentiment is correct this is a business after all and corporations will do what they think is beneficial to their success

BTW we can thank Ms for a lot of this. They started this trend during Xbox 360

mandingo1965d ago

Ah yes Xbox’s owners don’t support the games. Tell me more

DEEHULK881965d ago

You have no idea about whatTF you are talking sbout so please shut up.

The Wood1965d ago

Guess the truth really hurts some. Right now. . .Sony is doing great. . .people like winners. . From a business stance where would you place your deals IF you had to choose?

Are you sure your name's not thundercat17

I can't see you being born in 1977 in acting like such a fanboy

i3eyond the Circle1966d ago

Pretty sure Microsoft has their own online shooter they need to promote for that launch frame.. along with Cyberpunk marketing and whatever else is yet to come.

It only makes sense. CoD will sell to the same lemmings no matter who’s marketing it.

Microsoft’s should emphasize their power marketing and could maybe pull the ones who want the best possible experience. We’ll see come Digital Foundry

TheColbertinator1966d ago

Microsoft needs to fight harder to reclaim advertising and content rights from CoD. People blabber on about CoD dying or sone rubbish but the series remains the highest selling franchise year after year. Apart from GTA of course.

neutralgamer19921966d ago

You know what's scary COD launches in October or November and becomes the best selling game of that said year in matter of weeks

COD has become yearly sports titles and most have accepted the fact its a yearly thing. To casuals COD is a huge deal so having marketing and early dlc helps

I can't believe gamers give two cents about who is marketing what. Just goes to show the sad state of affairs that brand fanboys drive.

Games should succeed and fail on their own based on quality not hype and marketing.

slavish01965d ago

Mostly fanboys care. I like ps5, I hate Activision

indysurfn1965d ago

I agree. Fully with the sentiment. Especially glad you used the word SHOULD. But what I do care about, is when the best game I have ever played, no one has heard of. The reason? Well number#1 is I want people to enjoy it too. Number 2 is if it is not selling because no one knows it exists, there may not be a sequel, never the less a well financed one. But in general I get what your saying.

CaptainCook1965d ago

It's kinda irrelevant for Microsoft to market Call of Duty this year when they have Halo Infinity releasing on the same day as Xbox Series X.

Automatic791965d ago

This marketing deal is not as big as it use to be. Call of Duty sells equally good on both consoles.

PSN Store "Remasters & Retro" Sale Kicks Off

Sony has launched the PSN Store "Remasters & Retro" sale that discounts The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered for the first time.

OtterX1d 18h ago

That's great, Oblivion Remastered already on sale! Think I'll jump in.

I feel like Lunar Remastered should have been included on this one too though.
