Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Review - IGN

Despite lackluster RPG mechanics, the fighting and the story presentation of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is enough to make this a worthwhile venture through the world of DBZ for fans and newcomers alike.

7 means "good". In case you didn't know.

roadkillers1929d ago

7 is a boarder line D. Tell me anywhere in academia that this would be praised.

Fuck IGN, 4 hours in this DBZ has been fantastic.

FlyingFoxy1929d ago

"D"? I've always classed 7 as more like a C, i don't know why people get so hung up over a score. When something hits 8 it's as if suddenly something amazing has happened and the game becomes great to some people because of 1 extra point, whereas some act like it's more of a "meh"? from a 7 score. Makes little sense to me.

These scores are also based on personal taste and likes, why do you think games can get wildly different scores from multiple reviewers?

Some never cease to amaze me.

Edgelordsupreme1928d ago

@roadkillers

"boarder line" and then mentions praise in academia, that is way to funny.

UltraNova1928d ago

"However, while it’s backed by extremely solid combat, it also comes with major drawbacks like poorly implemented RPG mechanics, a general lack of polish, and some disappointingly shallow and repetitive sidequests."

Let me reiterate - Despite its apparent flaws(major ones afaic) still getting it.

roadkillers1928d ago (Edited 1928d ago )

@EdgeLordSupreme

That’s probably why I’m so butt hurt...
I’m sick of getting C-’s

UnSelf1928d ago (Edited 1928d ago )

@flyingfox

why do people continuously ask this question despite having it answered over and over?

The reason people care about scores is because its a representation of how a collective group of gamers who get PAID to evaluate a game based on a system of rules, feels about the experience.

We all know its just an opinion. We all know it doesnt exactly determine how you will feel about a game.

Stop repeating what everyone knows

Been enjoying it, just started the Cell Saga.

Definitely a game for the fans.

isa_scout1929d ago

Never been a hardcore DBZ fan, but I may pick this up anyway. This game drought is serious.

Felix_Argyle_Catbro1929d ago

There is no such thing as "game drought" unless you only play the biggest AAA games and have no backlog whatsoever.

isa_scout1929d ago

I mean I've been playing Outer Wilds again and just finished up Subnautica, so I do LOVE and play indies as well. I'm not going to play garbage indies just to have something to play though, and I have no backlog. Game droughts ARE a real thing though. Have you never bought a new console at release? There's always a game drought about 2 or 3 months in.

monkey6021929d ago

Damm you must be picky or something brother! I'm snowed under a back log enough to keep me occupied for a couple years at this stage

isa_scout1929d ago

Not picky at all. I mean, I like good games so I'm not going to play everything but I play good indies not just triple A. I never get a backlog I seem to beat and move on from a game at a pretty steady clip. Everyone is different though.

Kran1929d ago

I'm half way through it and I'd probably give it a 6 to be honest. It's not bad, it's just a bit dull as you're doing the same things. Maybe it gets better idk

2pacalypsenow1929d ago

Isn't that what fighting games are?

I mean street fighter and Super smash bros don't get bad reviews because you do the same thing over and over again.

King_Noctis1929d ago

This is supposed to be an RPG, fyi.

Edgelordsupreme1928d ago

Yeah those games have a multiplayer component, if Street Fighter was nothing but a single player experience it would be different entirely.

2pacalypsenow1928d ago

So because you do the same thing over and over online it’s different ?

CorndogBurglar1928d ago (Edited 1928d ago )

This is an RPG. You shouldn't feel like you are doing the same things over and over again.

When people buy an RPG, they aren't expecting a fighting game with that level of repetitiveness.

"So because you do the same thing over and over online it’s different ?"

Yeah. Because it adds a level of competitiveness. Even though the gameplay might be the same, the level of skill it takes to be good against other players is huge. When playing offline, once you get good enough to beat the computer, that's it. But online you are constantly being pushed to get better and better. That makes it a LOT easier to stay interested in the game.
