An end to the tit for tat rivalry between Microsoft and Sony promises a much less entertaining start to the next generation of consoles.
the eff its not. means more ppl in playlists that are multi platform and thats fun for gamers. but i guess that guy saying its no fun bc he's more concerned with stoking competition/fighting in his writing
Is anyone surprised that a "journalist" would be upset about a lack of discord?
They thrive on division and sensationalist headlines. Without the two they go hungry. Pure scum the lot of them.
Realistically, even if both companies were best of friends, we'd still fight it out on forums.
That would mean the end of his career. They depend on sensationalism, malcontent and discord. But good journalism is about the description of truth. Takes no effort to do that but a lot of skill to illustrate it in detail. Maybe we have to accept that our best choice is to pick the product that better represents our interest. On the long run all we want are good games and quality in them. At some point we have to take a stand and support the company that foresee a future in fresh ideas, risks and cunning creativity. Actors, 3d modelers, animators, script writers, graphic designers, musicians, program engineers, all of them deserves a recognition. I think that our best choice will align to those who provides the best portfolio of exclusives. That's is their card of presentation and the reasons that we invest in the industry of video games. This generation like all the previous ones bet on the best future. It's an ecosystem about trades not greed. When greed comes the quality of video games goes down. It is that simple.
The tit for tat rivalry you're talking about perpetuates an unhealthy, toxic back-and-forth between gamers on each side. That isn't fun, nor is it something that should continue. We should be focusing on bringing everyone together for a healthier, more friendly community. Move forward, not backward. Progression, not regression.
As nice as that sounds, how many of us really go and talk on any subject that isn't console war related? Community is just as much to blame as the press. I used to try and make comments on any random game news thread. No one ever reaelly responded. most of the time, unless its a super high profile game, you may only get 4-5 comments. Only games that get more attention are those that have some controversy attached to them, and of course exclusives, where much of the conversation is overrun with console war diatribes. it's like that everywhere nowadays. Sometimes you can see good conversations about games, but they are the exception, not the norm.
Don't worry journo the fans will never be 'friendly' though. They'll fight on behalf of the companies :)
That was at least a good 90% of the console wars anyways. Sony and MS just needed to periodically fan the flames while the fans handled most of the mud slinging. It seems the fire is large enough now that neither company needs to do as much to fan it.
Called it. Fanboy media wants to keep a console war going so they can get clicks.
Eventually corporations get so big that it's more lucrative to cooperate than compete.
That's not happening here. They're still bloodthirsty competitors. Don't let Phil's silver tongue fool you..
Exclusives will have THE LAST WORD. In other words, the actions defines the outcome not PR talking.
Sony and MS are and will continue to be business rivals, but the whole Sony vs MS soap opera was always sensationalized. Sure, I have no doubt both companies were in on that sensationalism as a means of driving interest in their products, and it turned the otherwise incredibly boring world of business into something actually intriguing. Maybe it's not a surprise afterall that I didn't major in business, lol.
Imagine being a fanboy hermit for so long that you base your enjoyment of a new system on company "rivalries."
Ok, I enjoy the competition and positioning the companies take to try to get an edge over their rivals. It's exciting and interesting, not unlike a good football game. Am I the fanboy hermit you're trying to imagine?
If you're immature, in love with a piece of plastic, etc then you like the fan boy type of atmosphere.
Is it me or CCN always manages to have the worst takes possible on this industry ? Is that their editorial guideline or what ?
Competition was always fun and drove some great content.
Agreed. It's still alive and well 😊
Sony and MS have always been friendly. Its the fanboys that aren't.
Both makes money, yes I agree. This world runs with money. But here is the thing: You have a vote. Your vote defines where the industry heads. If you want exclusives and quality then go for the PS5. If you are interested in monetisation and services then go for XBOX. As we all are, the vote means what you want to see in the future for other generations. It's you path and I can't tell you what is the correct one. But history says that quality takes time, effort, dedication, commitment and compromise. If we want great games then we have to make a choice. That is how it rolls. It is quite simple if you ask me.
I wonder how many in here were already born during, let alone remember, the 16-bit console war between Sega and Nintendo. Good times, quite arguably the best console war in gaming history!
