Cold Reality For Video Games

UBS and America's Research Group issued a report earlier this week warning that 2008 is on pace to be "the worst Christmas in memory," with consumer electronics expected to be among the hardest hit.

That point was driven home yesterday when consumer-electronics giant Best Buy lowered its forecast amid worries that consumer spending will drop sharply.

A new survey of global video-game sales released earlier this week found combined sales across the US, Europe and Japan managed only a puny 1 percent increase, with Japan off 21 percent.
