Uh oh?

This is definitely going to ruffle some feathers or maybe this is a shot at Richard Leadbetter?

But on a serious note, the reason the fanboys want to know the specs so early is for imaginary bragging rights...

The whole my “piece of plastic is stronger than your piece of plastic” mindset.

sampsonon1993d ago (Edited 1993d ago )

Nothing wrong with healthy competition.
"My football team is better than yours"
Plus, as much as these companies say they don't like the so called "console war" it has driven the industry for over 20 yrs. The sports industry understands this and so does the gaming industry.

I always find it funny when people make a big deal when it comes to this topic.
Then they turn on the tv and while watching their basketball team playing they are in a chat room talking smack.

It's called the tribe mentality, and has been around since the beginning oh human history.
Get over it.

to make an Informed Decision on which console to Choose this Christmas

SkatterBrain1993d ago (Edited 1993d ago )

Sony always brings its Secret Sauce, i was surprised to read an article that said the Cell Processor Still had Alot of Untapped powah That Hardware based Ray Tracing sounds like itll help out alot, if even RTX 2080 super is having trouble handling it and a stable 60fps at 4k , that PSVR breakout box Didnt really add any extra power though , they made it sound necessary

Imalwaysright1993d ago

Football teams represent your town or country and there's a real affinity between fans and their respective teams. The only thing consoles represent is the bank account of the companies that produce them.

crazyCoconuts1993d ago

I agree. I find the competition fascinating to watch. I'd want to know specs even if there was just one console just out of interest/excitement, but watching how they compete and to some extent rooting for your favorite is kinda fun, I won't deny.

x_xavier_x1993d ago (Edited 1993d ago )

@sampson

"Nothing wrong with healthy competition."

I agree in principle. Competition can foster growth, confidence and teamwork. But the way that certain console "fans" act toward their opposition is anything but healthy.

Also, we're talking about an affinity for a toy, not a team of human beings who are striving for athletic greatness.

Rude-ro1993d ago

Well.. a better football team is built with better players... soooo
The analogy falls flat when talking about Microsoft. 😂

SephirothX211993d ago (Edited 1993d ago )

Just because something has been around a long time, doesn't make it wise. Supporting a sports team is also very different to supporting a particular brand of games console because a games console is a product and consumers switch to competing products when the competition is better value. Supporters of sports teams don't change teams. This is primitive stuff. Anyway healthy competition is good and there would be no competition if gamers weren't open to switching between consoles. MS can only win next gen if they can attract a lot of PS4 buyers to buy their console. Next gen is Sony's to lose.

DaDrunkenJester1993d ago

Well, just like some sports fans who riot and or have killed people over their team losing... these type of fans are a disgrace. Competition and having a favorite brand is fine, but there is a line you don't want to cross.

sampsonon1993d ago

@Imalwaysright
"The only thing consoles represent is the bank account of the companies that produce them."
and those billionaire NFL owners don't want your money?

now days developers such as ND and their fans have a "real affinity" between each other as well.
ever hear of Twitter? it's the same $hit different setting.

i think people that take their shirts off and paint $hit on their chest is way more wacky than someone debating which console is better.

Neonridr1993d ago

@SkatterBrain - even if the SX was more powerful, that wouldn't make a Sony fanboy choose the SX over the PS5.

Imalwaysright1993d ago

sampsonon

I don't know how it is in the US but in Europe football clubs invest in their respective communities and are a major driving force in the practice of sports. They have an active role in a community so it isn't just about just money. Gaming companies on the other hand just care about money as evidenced by this industry being an anti-consumer joke.

" Twitter".... How exactly is a dev interacting with someone on twitter a sign of affinity? "it's the same $hit" No, it really isn't. This is what I'm talking about:

https://www.youtube.com/wat...
https://www.youtube.com/wat...
https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Wacky? Having an affinity to pieces of plastic or to multi billion $ companies that only care about money doesn't make any sense to me but having an affinity to a sports team that is representing my country or my home town does.

NonPartisanGamer1993d ago

There is no console war outside the minds of children who only own one or the other. The industry is driven by market forces like anything else.

"It's called the tribe mentality, and has been around since the beginning oh human history.

Worst logic to use to support people acting immature and filling submissions with inane arguments based solely around opinions in the end.

UltraNova1992d ago

It doesn't help that these companies like to ruffle people's feathers by drip feeding them specs, features and power estimates more than a year before release...So that's kinda ironic coming from you right, David?

sampsonon1992d ago

@UltraNova you talking to me, Brian?

Imalwaysright1991d ago (Edited 1991d ago )

You call me ignorant and still, Sony just like all the other companies in this industry treat their costumers like shit and not just that, they run sweatshops and are responsible for stuff like this https://www.bbc.com/news/te... Ignorance is comparing the affinity that people have with their respective sports teams to a moronic affinity that people like you have with faceless corporations that only care about the almighty $ not even caring how they get it.

sampsonon1991d ago (Edited 1991d ago )

@Imalwaysright
none of these companies owe you anything. if i like a game they make i buy it. Sony just happens to make stellar AAA games so i have no complaints. if you don't like it stick with pc gaming.

ever try getting a ticket to a sports game for a popular team? or buy a t -shirt? they charge a lot of money, which is a practice that is anti consumer as well. same as going to a movie and paying 30 for pop and popcorn.
life isn't fair is it? that's why i choose who i get to screw me as long as i get a good product.

Imalwaysright1991d ago

Having a preference is normal, I have them too but the way some people act towards others that chose a different piece of plastic isn't. Having a sense of superiority because you chose a piece of plastic that anyone can buy isn't normal. Irrationally defending one these companies at expense of our rights as consumers isn't normal and for what when none of the companies in the gaming industry care about us or represent us?

As for sports they're also entertainment and a business and to me setting a price to watch a game or buy a jersey isn't anti-consumer because no one is trying to deceive me or sell me a broken product. Sports teams are upfront with their fans. On the other hand we all know the shit the companies involved in this industry try to pull such as releasing broken games, false advertisement , selling incomplete games at full price, RROD, YLOD, joy con drift, charging for online to play 3rd party games whose servers they don't even provide or maintain or stuff like this https://www.youtube.com/wat... that is also present in console/pc gaming.

Yeah well my uncle bob is harder than yours mate.

mrmikew20181993d ago

Hey?!?!?

Leave me my uncle out of this! ;)

nucky641993d ago

i'm surprised your uncle lets you check his junk.

sushimama1993d ago (Edited 1993d ago )

The only way you could possibly know that is because you have physically checked how hard these men are, or you were there at a time of each man's peak-hardness. I hope you enjoyed yourself.

SyntheticForm1993d ago

I don't think it's a shot at Richard, but it's kind of a silly question to ask.

Who 'doesn't' want to know the specs of the next consoles?

Quite a normal curiosity.

nucky641993d ago

i get that; but i'm going to buy ps5 and knew that before anything was announced. i love the exclusives sony puts out - the specs aren't as important - although i'm VERY excited that load times are going to be greatly reduced and looking forward to trying the new features on the next iteration of the dualshock.

SyntheticForm1993d ago

@nucky

I totally understand that; PS5 is a must-buy for me and I don't even have to think about it. We're in the same column. I can't do without Sony's exclusives.

When it comes to Xbox it's more of a 'hmm' as opposed to must-buy, though I know I'll be getting both as I enjoy both.

bluefox7551993d ago

Yeah, it's all fanboy nonsense in the end, it's about the games, it's always had been.

Gazondaily1992d ago

Yeah but power is important too. We've seen this before.

RememberThe3571993d ago

Everytime a car maker announces a new car people wait to see the numbers, everything from wheel base to its Nuremberg time. Fanboys or not, this info is useful for context and it's fun to talk about. If this guy doesn't know why people want to know more about his products, he's in the wrong line of work.

Sayai jin1993d ago

I am no fanboy and I am interested in the specs of the next PS and Xbox, because I want to see what I have to look forward too. I am getting both regardless

JackBNimble1992d ago (Edited 1992d ago )

There is nothing wrong with knowing what you're planning on buying.

These are also electronics not just pieces of plastic, saying as much just dumbsdown and undermines the entire industry.
Would you call a PC just a piece of plastic?

Zeref1992d ago

So all the pixel counting and leaf counting at the beginning of the Gen by Sony fanboys and biased media was imaginary?

From my perspective, it seems like power only matters to you guys when Sony has the power crown.

DaveZero1992d ago

That's so true, but your honesty gets you negative responses from said fanboys on this site.

Its ok to speculate over what console will be more powerful based on "leaked" information or/and developers impressions, but, to bother and harass key people from both Sony and MS over next gen consoles specs even knowing they´ll not reaveal anything, is just insane. Smdh.

mrmikew20181993d ago (Edited 1993d ago )

I agree with you on that one, no one should be called outside their name over these specs for either one of these consoles.

The whole leaks/rumors/speculation is out of hand at this point.

We just have to wait and see what the official specs are from both Sony and MS.

1993d ago
VivaChe1993d ago

So, the article seems to say that the specs are pretty equal for both consoles? Or am i reading it wrong?

jmac531993d ago

I think they are implying that. A bunch of insiders are saying they are close enough that only digital foundry will be able to pick apart any differences in games.

RazzerRedux1993d ago

"harass key people from both Sony and MS over next gen consoles specs even knowing they´ll not reaveal anything, is just insane."

I agree.....but we are not getting the other side of this story. Here this guy is questioning folks even asking about the specs at all. Seems to have a little attitude about it. Did he give some attitude to the guy asking? Who knows. We don't get to hear about that. All we know is this guy was called an a-hole.....by someone....for some reason.

rainslacker1991d ago

I think the term harassment is thrown around too loosely nowadays. Asking a question is not harassment. Even if multiple people ask it, it doesn't mean that it's harassment. Criticizing something isn't harassment. Multiple people all throwing in their opinion isn't harassment. All that is just a side effect of how social media is used by multitudes of people.

Otherwise, yeah, if a person doesn't want to discuss what's being asked, just say so. Not everyone is going to see their response, and may ask their own question, but best not to get upset about it if you're in a position of authority on the subject. It's just the nature of the modern social media beast.

Deriding a rather common aspect of gaming fandom to ask why people would care, as if it's not normal seems arrogant, and I see this kind of thing happen with a lot of executives or spokepeople nowadays.

I know social media is still a relatively new means of communicating, but I'd think all this should be understood by anyone who actually uses social media to talk about stuff from a position of authority.

If someone is actually harassing them, then that should be more obvious, because individuals, or groups, will be more persistent, and often use stupid hashtags. Then you can just block it, and address it with a firm answer and move on. Some may be upset, and you may receive a bit of bad press. But the overall negativity from that will die down quick, and no one will remember in a week anyways. Make a real effort to be antagonistic towards the community, and they will remember that for much longer. The funny thing about social media, is that groups tend to support those that are supposedly wronged, and the more you appear to have wronged them, the more support they get. But in general, the masses don't typically support those who actually harass someone, and very rarely do you see threats supported by anyone.

Chronicles of the Wolf Review [Capsule Computers]

Travis Bruno of Capsule Computers writes:

"There is a reason that the Castlevania franchise is so beloved and even is seen as part of what started the whole metroidvania genre, given that half of the franchise’s name makes up the genre of course. These titles see players explore vast, generally 2D limited locations where players will battle against all different manner of foes, unlocking new powers and weapons along the way that will help them gain access to previously unreachable areas or breach a barrier blocking their way. Throughout the years, these metroidvanias have each added their own unique takes and quality of life features to try to set themselves apart and make a mark of their own, but how about one that sticks almost as close to the original Castlevania as possible?

Chronicles of the Wolf happens to be just that as Migami Games has made sure to stick as close as possible to the original Castlevania elements for better or worse while putting their own lore on things. Does this retro approach that adheres heavily to the old-school formula work out well for this one or was this hero’s adventure better left for the wolves?"
