I agree. I find the competition fascinating to watch. I'd want to know specs even if there was just one console just out of interest/excitement, but watching how they compete and to some extent rooting for your favorite is kinda fun, I won't deny.

Just because something has been around a long time, doesn't make it wise. Supporting a sports team is also very different to supporting a particular brand of games console because a games console is a product and consumers switch to competing products when the competition is better value. Supporters of sports teams don't change teams. This is primitive stuff. Anyway healthy competition is good and there would be no competition if gamers weren't open to switching between consoles. MS can only win next gen if they can attract a lot of PS4 buyers to buy their console. Next gen is Sony's to lose.

Having a preference is normal, I have them too but the way some people act towards others that chose a different piece of plastic isn't. Having a sense of superiority because you chose a piece of plastic that anyone can buy isn't normal. As for sports they're also entertainment and a business and to me setting a price to watch a game or buy a jersey isn't anti-consumer because no one is trying to deceive me or sell me a broken product. I think the term harassment is thrown around too loosely nowadays. Asking a question is not harassment. Even if multiple people ask it, it doesn't mean that it's harassment. Criticizing something isn't harassment. Multiple people all throwing in their opinion isn't harassment. All that is just a side effect of how social media is used by multitudes of people.

Otherwise, yeah, if a person doesn't want to discuss what's being asked, just say so. Not everyone is going to see their response, and may ask their own question, but best not to get upset about it if you're in a position of authority on the subject. It's just the nature of the modern social media beast.

Deriding a rather common aspect of gaming fandom to ask why people would care, as if it's not normal seems arrogant, and I see this kind of thing happen with a lot of executives or spokepeople nowadays.

I know social media is still a relatively new means of communicating, but I'd think all this should be understood by anyone who actually uses social media to talk about stuff from a position of authority.

If someone is actually harassing them, then that should be more obvious, because individuals, or groups, will be more persistent, and often use stupid hashtags. Then you can just block it, and address it with a firm answer and move on. Some may be upset, and you may receive a bit of bad press. But the overall negativity from that will die down quick, and no one will remember in a week anyways. Make a real effort to be antagonistic towards the community, and they will remember that for much longer. The funny thing about social media, is that groups tend to support those that are supposedly wronged, and the more you appear to have wronged them, the more support they get. But in general, the masses don't typically support those who actually harass someone, and very rarely do you see threats supported by anyone.

I agree to know the specs this early is not REALLY needed but its just curiosity to fuel this console war and believe it or not, these console wars and even us in here debating (well most of us debate, others flame bait) because it's all in the spirit of competition.

Which console is better? Which one is more powerful? Which console can simulate a game to be as real as you see the sun during the day or the moon at night? Its all competition and gaming would not be as interesting as it is without us all debating our emotions.

There are a lot of gamers that want to know this as they can only purchase one of the consoles. So they will decide on which one gives the best bang for their buck. Specs can go a long ways in making that decision.

The ONLY true way to see the potential of ANY console in my opinion is through 1st party titles. They have the freedom to utilize ALL feature sets of a console that may or may not be on other consoles. 3rd parties are bottlenecked with having to produce the same version of a game on different platforms. So it would be safe to assume that 3rd parties would not be too focused on specific niche features of a console (visa vie six-axis motion controls, Kinect).

As for me, I will be purchasing ALL of the next gen consoles as I just do not want to limit my access to the 1st party titles that each platform has to offer. The 3rd parties that I do purchase will be for the console that I am most comfortable with. I don't really care if my friends favor a console over the other, I do not make decisions with my gaming based on others preference.

So specs are not that all important to learn so early on, but the way it looks, how much it will cost and what games will be available day one of release are exponentially more important than the specs.

However, fellow games there are no excuses, save your pennies, quarters, nickels, dimes and dollar bills and higher and ensure you have it saved up for when you decide to purchase the console. Looking forward to the next generation of video games. What a time to be alive you know??? Well, wars, racists, bigots and idiots nothwithstanding of course......

I thought that would have an obvious answer with this not even needing to be a question. People are curious about what it can do. The fact that they announced this 11-12 months and don't really want to disclose all the information now is kinda the issue if they didn't want to release any information besides the basic stuff of the resolution output, refresh rate etc they would have been better off waiting until E3 they definitely should of expected something like this but then again they're not required to give anything more then what they want to give but hey people have 11 months to decide to save or not. On another note the fact that some people called the guy names when he wouldn't give out more information was unjustified. The fact that he compared people asking about the specs to buying a movie spoilers was a poor response. $10-15 is a whole lot cheaper then an estimated $499.99 price tag.

I think Sony is purposely leaking ps5 specs to soften the blow of it being significantly weaker to its fan base. The ps4 pros exact specs were out there before the system had officially been revealed. The ps5 is going for a value approach while the series x is a premium product. Of course the series x is gonna be more powerful with more faster ram and better hardware based ray tracing but it may cost 150$ more. It’s kinda like comparing a mustang to a Lamborghini. We don't know what Sony is going for. All they've really said about their goals is that they want to transition people quickly to PS5. That would assume a lower price, but lower price doesn't mean bargain priced, nor does it mean that the price will be less than what MS has to offer.

If you announce something this early, it's pretty natural for consumers to want to know what it's capable of. The desire to want to rush and get the face of your product out there is really where the blame lies, not with us. As it stands, we have no idea when the hard specs will be revealed, and for me, it's tiresome seeing article after article claiming this box is more powerful than this box or these bits were uncovered from this leak. With numbers directly from the manufacturers, none of this would be a thing.

Most of the games people play online, Rocket League / Call of Duty / Battlefield Will Look Near Identical

Fifa Soccer / assassin's creed / Far cry, Again i Think they will all look Near Identical

If Xbox Has an Advantage it will be With Ray Tracing, I Believe You Will Need a Pretty High End TV To even notice a difference, the vast majority of people will never get to see that difference with there average tvs

There will be Differences of course if you want to go deep into pixel differences, better Shadows / ambient occlusion etc etc you will have to pause the game, Zoom in 1000% and then say oh yeah i see the difference

I also Think it will take Developers 3 or 4 years to really move on to next gen and by that time the ps5 pro will be out,

Sony's 1st party games compliment themselves, and despite even or less power in the past, Sony 1st party has done more with what they have than MS 1st party has. The best looking Xbox game is a 3rd party game which still looks great on PS4, although it has HDR problems which may or may not have been fixed by now.

Sony hasn't given him the go ahead, but if he was talking to a group of eager listeners about the PS5, he certainly wouldn't be questioning their motives, but just talking about what he could, and trying to find little interesting things to talk about and what it would mean for new hardware. I mean, he made FP16 interesting when people were really grilling him about PS4P specs. That didn't really go anywhere this gen, so hopefully it'll do something next gen since all the chips will likely support it.

Because of the rezgate of this gen when one console that cost 499 was running games at 720p, 756p, 800p and some other strange rez while the other that cost 399 was running the same games at 1080p. Now, some, are jumping around with the idea that the PS5 will be weak.... Just a small problem, even a 9.2 machine will run all games at native 4k, and the Zen CPU will be able run games at 60 frames without any problems. But the tech genious here dont understand that. There wont be any rezgate next gen.... just a final note, i hope, really hope that the series X is much more powerfull then the PS5, because if it isnt, the backslash will be huge.

I really don't get where these 9.2TF rumors have a foothold. Sony has said it will be pretty capable of 4K. Heck, even 8K. Cerny has gone on record saying 8TF is really what's needed to achieve that, and that was the bare minimum.

It's hard to believe that the chief architect of the PS5 would have thrown out that number, and then only made it slightly more powerful than that number, even with Sony pulling the money strings.

Not saying the rumors aren't true, I just think people latched onto them as gospel, because apparently that's the only thing they got right now. Not even more than 2 years ago, there were rumors next gen was going to be 12-14TF, and somehow, Xbox is the only one that will be in that range now?

The truth is, if PS4 is in the 9TF range, then the Xbox is going to be in that same range. They're competing against one another, and MS only has so much room to over-engineer their console if they want to beat Sony at the power game. MS either matches Sony in price, which means relatively equal hardware(or heavily subsidized hardware), which means they're on fairly equal footing because the extra power won't gain them much in the market. Or MS overprices their console to not take a loss and Sony still gains the market because it's the cheaper console.

MS has to play the game smarter, not just try and outdo Sony. The best move they can make is to simply provide a solid system, a good amount of quality games that people want, and provide good services. Fortify that with a strong and committed message about the brand, positive and effective marketing, and they'll gain customers. I want to know just to put the noise to bed. I’m getting a series x because I’m an Xbox gamer.

Power was everything for Sony players not long ago. When every game was performing worse on the Xbox it was all jokes. That story changed when the X came out so they needed another thread to hang on to. It wasn’t enough that they had the better first party games, in my opinion of course. But they always need a bragging point for some reason.

Now it’s looking like they’re going to pay for an inferior product again. Karma is a funny thing.

End of the day both consoles will be great. As long as we can finally get 60fps on a regular I’ll be happy. Tired of games performing better on pc and powerful consoles not mattering.

The x had all that power and devs still chose to keep all versions of their console games on par with each other, so the power was never really used except in a handful of games.

4K /60 regularly should be the next gen standard. I’m blaming devs at this point, not the machines

He is actually comparing the console reveal to that of a movie. Guy is crazy. If anything the games would be the comparative movie with story and plot needing some semblance of secrecy to it to as not spoil. But the 'console' is at best comparative to the 'movie theater' in that you want to know if the movie is playing on IMAX, 3D, Dolby Atoms, is the theater clean, and are they serving fresh popcorn. There is no chance a movie theater needs to keep a secret as to how their movies will be running in their theater.

I will get ps5 even if xbox is more powerfull. Reason? I have 162 games on ps4 and way more invested in their ecosystem that getting anything else is not possible. It's either ps5 only or both for me. Personally i hope ps5 is a beast. But the price is around 450-500. I could afford 600, but that would be the absolut maximum i can pay and then it must also be boundled with a game.

It's going to be a powerful machine for sure but if the fanboys are so concerned about specs, why not build a PC? From my personal experience, I didn't care about the specs of the consoles from the ps3/360 era or before. I would wait for a game to come out and I would Google "game name xbox 360 vs ps3" just see which one ran better. Then in the ps4/xbox one era, I started to care because I was seeing several articles about games hitting 1080p on PS4 and 900p on Xbox one. Since I had a 1080p TV, I wanted the better version. I also had a 4K TV for movies and sports. Then both Sony and Microsoft came out with mid-lifecycle console iterations. I upgraded to both. They both are good consoles but most games ran at 30fps at 1800p to checkerboard 4K on the Pro and native 4K on the Xbox one X. The fanboy war over tErAfLoPs was unnecessary because nobody was playing and thinking "boy, look at all those Teraflops!". I was a bit disappointed with both consoles. So I realized I was concerned with framerates. I already had a PC but I upgraded and now have an RTX 2080TI, 3440X1440 ultrawide. I play everything at 100fps on Ultra and its glorious. I still love my console gaming but wanting to know specs on a console is like pretending you're going to build a PC. You cant take advantage of the specs anyway. The systems are locked down and you have no control over adjusting system resources. Now I only care about what awesome games can each platform provide and to what benefit. Now I am more at peace with my consoles. The end. *slow clap*
