With the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on the horizon, let’s gain some insight and take a look at why the PlayStation 4 beat the Xbox One. If you're a sales number geek, you've probably noticed a massive disparity between PS4 and Xbox One sales.
So, what went wrong for Microsoft? And what did Sony do so right?
I respect people who can dig deep on one game, and only one game, but I can't do it.
I used to play multiple games at a time but because of the time constraints I have I don’t have a choice but to play one game at a time or I’ll end up with some unfinished games. I like to get platinums for the games I enjoy the most so it can take me a long time to get to the next game.
It definitely takes some will power as I always have a stack of games I want to play at all times. But most of the games I play are really good and I am fully immersed when I’m playing a single game at a time.
Same for me. I play so many games, currently playing oblivion, expedition, blades of fire, bg3 with friends , avowed, and Nioh 2. After learning more about myself and gaining mastery, I have developed an ability to get fulfillment from a game without needing to “complete” it. Unless of course, a game hooks me for the story, in which case I have to complete it to see what happens. I have discovered that in terms of gameplay, one can get most if not all of the expected experience in about 25% of progress through play.
There’s perhaps few game franchises out there right now that have such a celebrated legacy but are mostly inaccessible quite like the Onimusha series.
The remaster of Capcom's action-adventure game, Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, is facing backlash over minor changes due to censorship.
I’m still holding out for a physical release on PS5 or Switch. Has Capcom confirmed whether a disc version is still in the works?
How is it censorship if Capcom is the one that made the change of their own volition? I could understand if they did it because they were told to, but that doesn't seem to be the case. At this point, it's a creative change.
You could make the argument that Oyu's costume was only more revealing because they wanted to appeal to horny teens at the time and this is what they would prefer to do.
We don't really know, but it was Capcom's decision, so why is this a big deal?
First, Sega wasn't an all around failure. See: Genesis
Second, Sony beat the arrogance of Microsoft last gen in every conceivable way this gen. Games, add-ons like VR, services, awards, sales, variety, reviews, etc. So much so, Microsoft had to completely hide underneath the covers. And Sony did it in the most humble way compared to Ken Kutaragi's way. Even though he was a genius.
Third, Microsoft didn't win in BC because Sony never offered it. It's like saying, "Haha!" "We won." But you're the only contestant. And as for Game Pass, what did it win? The GaaS award? Lol! Article writer calls it innovative. By killing your launch sales to push subscriptions. How quaint.
Yes. Sony concentrating on what matters and giving their fans what they want, which is more games, new IPs and things like VR that the community didn't know they wanted, is why Sony curb stomped Microsoft.
Round three will be an interesting boxing match. But as the article said, Sony offering BC will allow Sony to keep its many fans until the PS5 library grows.
We could at least let this generation end before we go over this topic again.
PS4 exclusive software portfolio.
PS4 is overall a much better product. It has more and better exclusive games.
PlayStation destroyed Xbox so hard that Microsoft even stopped reporting their official numbers and were force to create gamepass to deal with their low software sales.
Even Nintendo stood in later and is doing better than Microsoft but hey, at least Xbox fans are having a good time making fun of a console logo "facepalm*.
Xbox, move to digital only was to early adopters hated and SOny used that against Microsoft from thee launch on really took advantage of that situation. Xbox also continued to make gamers buy that stupid Kinect. The XBox was rushed it was not ready for release it took about a year after release to be ready for gamers. AS an Xbox fan even I played only PS4 titles for the first year, year and half. After that absolute horrible launch and first year XBox got on track but SOny had already won that battle.
