Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda sent his usual new year letter to explain the publisher's strategy for 2020 and beyond.
”...games themselves will become more service-based.“ This is what i was fearing he would say.
It was a mis-translation. He was talking about Cloud and Tifa.
These corporate douchebags are gonna get it one day that I won't be buying transitory goods, now or ever. I buy things I get to keep forever, or I don't open the wallet. I can pop a 20 year old cdrom in and play any old pc I game I have. Or PS1 game. Or N64. I won't lay out cash for something disappears as soon as I stop paying.
"I won't lay out cash for something disappears as soon as I stop paying." PS+, XBLG, and Nintendo Online? Just wanna make sure you're being consistent.
not a fair statement. you need these to play online. the games are a nice bonus, not the main thing you sub for
TK-66 all Xbox 360 games on Xbox games with Gold are yours to keep FOREVER even after you cancel your Live Gold
@meteorPanda It's absolutely a fair statement. You lose what you paid for just like @Dwarrior described. Online access is a completely different topic, but if you're going to defend it then you would need to justify locking MP access behind a paywall. Do you really want to do that? Last I check when you stop paying you lose access as well so I guess it applies to what @Dwarrior said too. @autobotdan And lose the Xbox One games until you resubscribe. No one is buying GWG for just the 360 games...
I only play on PC, so I don't subscribe to any services of that nature. No rental, no streaming. I'm 45 years old, and if that becomes the future? Where physical or permanent downloads disappear? Then I'm done.
It's just a bunch of PR talk. Seems aimed at investors more than consumers.
It's not just talk, ff14 is already doing this. That game is subscription based and they charge microtransactions such as better colors, name changes and sever changes. It's a 12 dollar monthly sub and they charge 10 bucks to change ur name...
If I could play every game ever released for the cost of a Netflix subscription and no other fees, I'd be okay with that.
I prefer owning my games, thanks.
Some movies I do buy on Blu ray. But most I just watch on Netflix.
