Microsoft Giving Away 1,000,000 MS Points

Along with the new Dashboard update coming next week, Microsoft has announced a new contest where gamers have a chance to win free Microsoft Points. A total of 1,000,000 Microsoft Points are up for grabs for users who make purchases on Xbox Live.

but im sure that if many ppl start downloading for the contest (using their ms points) that MS would just make up more than how much they are giving away...which is what usually happens with this kind of thing

I downloaded a couple things, Castle Crashers, Braid. I hope I get some of those points. I could really buy some of those new XNA community games coming up.

Is there even enough stuff to spend $6,250 on in the marketplace, because that's what 500,000 points cost. I could see that whoever get's this will have some troubles from their internet provider claiming that they use up too much bandwidth and will probably cut their line like what comcast does to their customers.

what is $49.95(no taxes), times oh say...20 million consumers? How about $999,000,000.00, not including all the differences in price around the world for the Xbox Live Service, or even the 2+ years that they've been out(and charging). I'd say they could more than afford to scrape together a little freebie like this and then write it off at the end of their fiscal year taxes.

while it'd be pretty nice to win i can't help but think that this is an attempt to boost numbers getting the NXE just so MS can say wooooooo look at all these people downloading the update!

Yeah Jontay, that's exactly it, to boost NXE numbers. Seriously? MS does this kind of thing every year around this time. Last year Live was Five so they gave stuff away. This year, it coincides with the release of NXE. A promotion to celebrate the release of a new GUI. A FIRST for the industry, to release an entire new GUI onto a console via download...I think it's a pretty big deal. I also think it's very cool as well.

Sure people may not like Avatars and such, but to simply change the entire face of the 360 via download around the entire planet, at the same time, is pretty damn impressive, like MS or not. It's a huge logistical undertaking, and I have to say if you actually think about it, the release of NXE is huge.

Yeah right, 1,000,000 MS Points, where are these come from? these points come from 360 owners. The more you download the more money they make, 1,000,000 MS Points to them is like nothing. Just another way to make money off you and make you think you're getting something back.

This is a pretty cool contest. I was planning on downloading the "Bring Down the Sky" expansion for Mass Effect and a couple of other things. I guess I will just make sure to do it between the 19th and the 23rd. Any of those prizes would be so awesome to win.
