Audeze LCD-GX Review

Premium audio comes at a price, but is it worth it?

The LCD-GX is, without a doubt, the best sounding headset I have ever used. I have used a lot of headsets, and there are many I would recommend, but I have found very few headsets that I have actually loved. I love these headphones though. There simply isn’t anything aimed at gamers that can offer the sound quality of the LCD-GX. The pure simplicity of these headphones, along with their compatibility with almost any device on the market, makes them an essential purchase for any audio purist.

Why does it need to be aimed at gamers? They are just the lcd-2 with the mic cable which they will be selling separately. If gamers didn't always need gamer branding they could use basically anything and add a mic.

You raise a good point about these just basically being the LCD series. Most gaming headsets do have 'gamer' styling (which I personally am not a big fan of), and the better ones have audio profiles or some kind of sound processing that gives some tangible benefit not available from regular headphones, but when compared to the LCD-GX, which is purely analogue, that gaming branding adds little to the package. I have seen attachable microphones that you can connect to any headset, although the ones I'm familiar with require a separate mic cable, which can be a pain. You can get an excellent regular set of headphones, and a mic, for far less than many gaming headsets retail for, and you could even pair them with an external audio processor like the Astro Mixamp for a fully-featured setup.

Having branded gaming headsets just makes it easier for gamers who play on consoles to recognise that they will have the plug and play functionality that they are used to, so I can see why they are popular, but there are alternative and arguably better alternatives.
