Xbox's Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 Might Even Seduce PlayStation Diehards

Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 stole the show the show at last night's The Game Awards - and not just because of how incredible the game looks.

StormLegend2025d ago

Gonna take more than 1 of these to push me. We also don't know how big it'll be compared to the first one. If everything goes smoothly and it's more games like this coming then I may see what's up.

NecrumOddBoy2024d ago

I'm waiting to see what platforms these new Xbox games come to. Game Pass is their focus so maybe future TVs could run the games. I do have to say they bought Studios that are (and could be) making sequels to games on PS4, which is a douche way of getting people to buy their stuff.

Sony has such a library. I think that the next generation is going to be a good one for everyone.

2024d ago
bouzebbal2024d ago

It’ll come to pc, game pass and xcloud.
We’ll see how much they manage to downgrade it, if that is really in engine to start With.
They have a bad track record with downgrades..

ramiuk12024d ago

everything will be on pc,MS shitting on themselves imo

porkChop2024d ago

Yeah it'll take a lot more than one game. This is a good start for next gen though. Them choosing Hellblade 2 as the defining game of their console reveal is promising. We'll see though.

Obscure_Observer2024d ago

Phil Spencer is genius!

He droped the atom bomb at TGA by revealing the powerful XS while making Hellblade II the flagship game for his next gen console. No Halo. No Gears. No Forza. YES HELLBLADE!

No more weak hardware! Hellblade II definelly looks incredible and so far is the only REAL next gen game with unbeliable graphics.

Microsoft will definelly take their new acquired studios to the next level!

And yes, Hellblade II is just one of the games that most definelly is making the SX far more appealing and interesting than the OG Xbox One ever was!

The Mattrick´s nightmare is finally over!

nismo3702024d ago (Edited 2024d ago )

🤣🤣🤣
No gameplay just cinematic.

xX-oldboy-Xx2024d ago

A game VERY early in development haha - yes it looks good mate, but dial it back a little.

2024d ago
Jin_Sakai2024d ago (Edited 2024d ago )

“No more weak hardware!”

Xbox One X is the most powerful console currently on the market and PS4 exclusives look manage to look better.

Godmars2902024d ago

"Phil Spencer is genius!"

Yes. A genius who's doing what MS has been doing, showing CG trailers rather than gameplay, since the 360.

"The Mattrick´s nightmare is finally over!"

Wont really be able to proclaim that till the system(s) and the games for them are out. A good while after they're out in fact. And that there's going to be system(s) is not really a good sign. Especially if they have to account, build for, the weaker system.

Or is future proofing still a thing?

gravedigger2024d ago (Edited 2024d ago )

In-engine trailer, yeah! But how about gameplay, like part of Godfall's gameplay was showed?

Obscure_Observer2024d ago

@nismo370 @Silvershiptrip @gravedigger

Lol! Got love the double standarts.

Knushwood Butt2024d ago

Larrysweet2024d ago

U have no clue what it looks like smdh get off Phil's junk jesus h christ

Larrysweet2024d ago

So sad xbox hasn't had a game in 7 years that 1 cinematic is there atom bomb bahahahahah and huge cylinder of a box

Good-Smurf2024d ago (Edited 2024d ago )

You sound like an infomercial.

rainslacker2024d ago

Lately....whenever I read your comments, I just imagine you sitting behind the desk, laughing maniacally, rubbing your hands together, wishing you had a handlebar mustache to twirl.

There's really nothing genius about what happened at the VGA. It was a good reveal, and it's gotten people talking, but I think MS jumped the gun, because now when Sony does announce.something, theyll be able to come up with a comparable, or better showing, and the attention will.be right back on Sony.

I also question why when Spencer doesnt do anything for 4 years it's not a nightmare, but under mattrick it was a nightmare. Mattrick had the BS DRM and the other stuff to go along with it, but at least he had games lined up, and spencer is the one that cancelled some of those games.

bouzebbal2024d ago (Edited 2024d ago )

Lol whatever!! If you consider that an atomic bomb
This is as atomic bomb as Quantum Break reveal on X1.. Remember that sick trailer??! I leave it here 🤣

Same. Wondering if Scalebound will ever come to fruition this time around.

S2Killinit2024d ago

Its easy to claim that statement in the title when its the very first game shown of next gen and nothing to compare it to. So no, it wont “seduce” anyone.

Muzikguy2024d ago

I haven't checked on the Game Awards but I don't see how a cinematic could steal the show. If it did must not have been a good show

PepsivsCoke2023d ago

It’s laughable to say that one game with a small following is going to have such an affect on “diehard Playstation” fans. If Halo can’t do it…seriously?? The fans that this game may seduce are Xbox diehards that had hardly any amazing exclusives this whole generation.

Nothing will seduce PlayStation diehards to the other side. That's why they are called diehards. This applies to all diehards not just the Sony ones.

isarai2024d ago

Diehards=/=fanboy

I'm a diehard Playstation fan through and through. Doesn't mean I'm not open to other platforms and systems, hell i have a PC, 3ds, OGXBox, Wii, Wii U, and going to grabbing a switch when i get the cash. MS has just been the only one that never really offered something that i saw worth purchasing their console for since the original XBOX. But with these new studios, if they start churning out great games like their competitors i'll certainly jump on board. Small issue i see with that is it looks like i can just play their games on my PC for $2 a pop if they continue to have that gamepass deal everytime they release a big title.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH2024d ago

So NOTHING on 360 interested you? Nothing? That’s almost unbelievable

isarai2024d ago (Edited 2024d ago )

@SPEAKxTHExTRUTH

Early 360 stuff was great, had a blast with King Kong, Crackdown(honestly one of my all time faves), Condemned criminal origins, Kameo always looked cool but never got to play it, Halo 3, Fable 2, Played gears 1-3 with a friend, but once the kinect came out things slowed way down and after playing those launch games, the same 3 ips every year just didn't seem worth the purchase of a several hundred dollar system. Also was just extremely lackluster compared to what the OGXbox offered in terms of exclusives with the likes of Sega backing them in that regard.360 just didn't have that same level of exclusive library the original xbox did, and that carried over to the xbox one.

Profchaos2024d ago

Yeah same I've owned every PlayStation so far but you know what else I've owned every Xbox and almost every Nintendo console so although im a diehard I'm an adult and can buy things that I like

jwillj2k42024d ago (Edited 2024d ago )

I bought a xbox one to see what the hype was about forza horizon and cuphead. Worst decision I’ve ever made for gaming. I still only have those 2 games. The console just collects dust. Not a fanboy or diehard, but MS will need to go back to the og Xbox days if they want to build a better fanbase.

Just because you’re a diehard fan of one brand doesn’t mean you can’t buy the products of another brand

Elda2024d ago (Edited 2024d ago )

Why would anyone buy something of another brand if that brand doesn't have anything that attracts you to their brand. I'm not wasting my money on a gaming console if it doesn't have any (exclusives) games that interest me.

FallenAngel19842024d ago

That’s a very specific question that doesn’t negate anything I stated. Why do you assume the people can only be interested in one particular thing?

If you’re a diehard fan of a movie, does that mean you don’t see any other movies? If you’re a fan of an RPG franchise, does that mean you don’t buy other RPGs?

NealGamby2024d ago

Unless you're like me and hate Microsoft for everything they have done in the past. The RROD fiasco, trying to make gaming always online, etc.

swifty12024d ago (Edited 2024d ago )

PlayStation has the MOST top tier AAA games. That’s it. Done. Xbox will have some great games of course, but they will never have what PlayStation has. Those amazing, quality exclusives Sony has, put them over the top

alb18992024d ago

Diehard fanboy = Stupid Customer.
I gamer will be happy with all good things happening everywhere because has more opportunities to have incredible experiences. It is like the Marvel vs DC bullshit.

rainslacker2024d ago

Doesnt really have to seduce the diehard. I dont know if one game is enough to do that. HB was a good game, but sony has games on that level and higher in spades, while if someone who likes those kinds of games is buying a system, I feel MS still hasn't gotten the mind share of the consumer to expect those kinds of games.

As an allegory, MS is unlikely to get the otaku gamers because they just dont have enough of that kind of content. Their half hearted and quickly abandoned efforts to get those gamers in the past havent built that kind of expectation from them. Same is true here. More directly, if an insomniac game at the start of the gen couldn't attract the PS gamer, why would HB2 do it when the first sold less on PS than any Insomiac game did.

There may be a few people who pick up a XSX for it, but I doubt its significant enough to write home about.

One "in-engine" (aka not real time) cinematic trailer is not enough to sell, or "seduce" me on anything. I need to see gameplay, and you're gonna need more than one good example to get my interest. That applies to ALL platforms.

Obscure_Observer2024d ago

@isarai

"That applies to ALL platforms."

Hmm... based on your comments, I think it´s fair to assume that the PS5 hasn´t show you anything (yet) to get you interested/excited?

AspiringProGenji2024d ago (Edited 2024d ago )

Based on how Sony has been delivering games and had a very consistent gen, it is fair And understandable for anyone To be excited and interested in the PS5. Not to mention Sony studios are most likely working for PS5 games already. We might see what they are working on pretty soon. Here’s hoping for a proper console reveal in February

xX-oldboy-Xx2024d ago

They just had an article showing PS5 'gameplay' - try harder mate.

nucky642024d ago

after 4 consecutive consoles in which sony brought amazing 1st party content, it's a safe bet that they'll continue that success.

isarai2024d ago

if you dig deeper into my comments you'll find i almost always mention waiting a year till i decide to buy in when it comes to the PS5, and the only thing that would really change that is having BC extend past the PS4. But i'm more excited about PS5 than Series X for a couple reasons:

1)Sony has proven more consistent with quality exclusives (i don't think anyone would argue MS had a dip in quantity from mid 360 era to now) and has continued that consistency for 4 generations
2)I also have a gaming PC so i will likely be able to play all of series x's "exclusives" without needing to own the system, and probably for $2 a pop like i've been doing as gamepass goes on sale for $2 everytime they drop a new big title. So you could say i'm VERY excited for what MS is going to bring in terms of games especially given their new acquisitions, but less so for the console itself given that caveat.

I would be as excited for switch but the system has already been out so it has turned from excitement to patiently waiting to have the funds to get one, and PC doesn't have generations like consoles so it never really stirs that much excitement in me, i just have it.

Obscure_Observer2024d ago

@nucky64

"after 4 consecutive consoles in which sony brought amazing 1st party content, it's a safe bet that they'll continue that success."

Sony only started to invest big money on first party development in PS3´s life circle. Been playing on Playstation consoles since the original japanese PS1 and I know for a fact that Sony used to rely on exclusive third party content.

Nah take off your blindfolds and you'll see better. Gran Turismo? Ratchet and Clank? Jak and Daxter? God of War? Wild Arms? Syphon Filter? The list goes on and on from Sony. Those were PS1 and PS2 games that Sony invested in.

It is real-time. Not gameplay but real-time in-engine graphics that are indicative of how the cutscenes in the game will look like. For a game that heavily relies on its story, narrative and character expressions that is quite important. It does, however, more so than anything else give us a glimpse on the level of visual fidelity we can expect from next-gen titles. Just imagine what the industry's more capable studios, including Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Guerilla, Insomniac, Rockstar, CD Projekt RED etc will be capable of delivering on the new hardware. In less than two months we will get to see some truly stunning looking titles from PlayStation.

Welshy2024d ago

It was in-engine but not real-time. Those a very different thing.

It was pre rendered in the game engine, but pre rendered nontheless.

livinunicorns2024d ago

@Welshy No it is in real-time. You see the little nuances and flaws. Yes, it is still a target render at this point and most likely running on PC, but still it is indicative of what we can expect from the game. As I've explained, however, what is most exciting is the advancements that the next-gen will bring on both next-gen consoles and PC. I have no doubt you will keep it denying it. That does not however make it any less true.

Abodenn2024d ago

It is indeed real-time. As you've said there are apparent flaws but still stunning. I honestly cannot understand why there's such disbelief.

isarai2024d ago

@livinunicorns
@Abodenn

The confusion lies with you two, if it were real time they would label as "Real-Time". In engine means it is using the game engine but is rendered out like a traditional 3D program to output a stable framerate and to apply more ideal effects like lighting, particles, animation quality, etc. Still comparable to real-time but not quite the same. Uncharted 1-3 does this with their cut scenes, and while the games do look nice, the cutscenes are not identical when it comes to what it looks like in real-time. Yes you'll still see some of those "flaws" because it's a game engine and not a dedicated 3D animation program like Blender or Maya and so doesn't have as many tools to smooth things over, but still isn't real-time. Don't believe me? Here's an actual game developer explaining just that.

Jingsing5d ago

Another Xbox game not released on disc.

Terry_B5d ago

We don't have 2020.

Just a few years and discs for consoles are not a thing anymore.

Just like on PC already since 10+ years.

I_am_Batman5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

Yeah it's 2025, which is why it's surprising to me that the actual issue still has to be explained considering these kind of discussions have been happening for a good decade at this point.

It's not about the disc. Maybe it is for collectors, but for most people it's about ownership. Discs just happen to be the only way to get offline decentralized DRM management on console. Unless there is a digital alternative that doesn't use expiring licenses that require periodic online connectivity to be refreshed, discs are not going to be obsolete for this specific reason.

PC doesn't have the same problem as it's an open platform with ways around these issues. Ways that don't require a system level jailbreak. There even are stores that sell DRM free digital games like GoG for example. None of that exists on console, because it's a walled garden, hence discs are still a thing.

Tacoboto5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

"...for most people it's about ownership"

Sure it is, as they play on a slim PS5 where the disc drive requires online activation, or a PS5 Pro where the disc drive is a totally separate purchase (and still requires that online check).

I_am_Batman5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

@Tacoboto: You do realize that there is a large overlap between the people complaining about the issue you're mentioning and the one I'm talking about?

Of course at some point if there is no other option, most people won't stop gaming and just take what they can get, such as in the case of the optional disc drive for example, but just because people are forced to relunctantly accept a one time online activation of a disc drive, doesn't mean they should accept always online single player games or online DRM when alternatives still exist.

Personally I won't stop gaming either, even if we go all in on online DRM, but my willingness to spend money will severely go do. I will never buy a digital only release for full price or anywhere near full price (unless I can get it DRM free like on GoG for example).

Profchaos5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

Pretty much the core reason I borrowed doom tda from a mate but have a gears reloaded pre order in.

Ive also skipped a few other games over the last 12 months to like star wars outlaws because again it wasn't on the disc it also turned out horrible so I dodged a bullet there.

I skipped buying any game keycard releases on switch 2 also

Its pretty much exclusively about ownership i dont want to spend a large amount of money on a new game inly to own it for 5 years and a publisher come to take it away.

It'd be like back in the day yamonochi from Nintendo breaking into their customers houses to steal their super mario bros carts after the all stars collection came out.

Tacoboto5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

@Batman

"I will never buy a digital only release for full price"

Yeah, I too remember how no one on here, clutching their disc drives, bought Baldur's Gate 3 on release day. Biggest flop in history. No one also bought Hogwarts Legacy, because that disc is just a paper weight. Didn't break ANY sales records either, nope not at all.

Because gamers on the internet - they stay true to what they preach. It's why Xbox Live Arcade never became a thing back in the Xbox 360 days, because ewww digital games who would even.

badz1495d ago

@Tacobot

"...as they play on a slim PS5..."

He said "most" and you do know that the best selling SKU is the disc version, right? And the disc drive attachment is selling like hotcakes? This shows that many console gamers still appreciate physical.

Just quit it with the "buh buh buh...pc this, pc that..." if these gamers really want to go pc that much, they would already have! We are talking consoles here and physical has and should always be what sets it apart from pc!

What are you? Some corporate shills who are against gamers having choices?

I_am_Batman4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Tacoboto, one of the dumbest arguments people like yourself are constantly making on the internet is arbitrarily grouping people together and treat them like an individual to call out some supposed hyporcrisy. How do you take a quote from my comment that specifically points to a standard I've set for myself, and then try to counter it by pointing at something that has nothing to do with me at all? I'm responsible for my own actions, not for the actions of others.

I bet it will make top-selling list on PSN in August...despite all the hate on N4G for this game.

Eonjay5d ago

Well considering how poorly it sold on PC and Xbox, you better believe that Microsoft is hoping for a strong debut on PS5 as well.

Obscure_Observer5d ago

Does it really matter?

Senua´s fans on Playstation will get the opportunity to play this fantastic game, that´s all that matters.

Given the like/deslike ratio of this video on Youtube, you can really tell how some Playstation gamers opinions on NG4 in contrast with Playstation gamers out there is really night and day.

This game is hated on N4G for some reason. But it´s apparently loved out there.

Best Lead Performance of 2024

VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "As game scripts expand in size and the technology to capture performances improves, blockbuster game companies are under tremendous pressure to get the right fit for a leading role. In some cases, said actor essentially becomes the face of that franchise; their mug may be digitally altered or cropped in select ways, but they're – more or less – in the same spot as a film actor at this point. As a result, there's also a keener interest in how those performers sound if they're replacing somebody else.

Perhaps the most glaring example of that was Bloober Team's Silent Hill 2 remake. Alongside a bevy of other gameplay & story alterations, Luke Roberts replacing Guy Cihi's original James Sunderland was a major point of distress for long-time fans before release. Sure, Cihi wasn't a trained actor at the time (and it shows), but he carried a type of unique charm that meshed perfectly with the game's strange world. A similar situation was Troy Baker assuming the mantle of Indiana Jones. How similar could he actually sound to a younger Harrison Ford? Judging by the collective staff & community acclaim, both of them fared quite well, and so too did the others who made up our final five."
