PS5 & Xbox Series X better beware: Nintendo Switch has an ace up its sleeve

Nintendo Switch may not be as powerful as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, but it has struck a chord with video game fans everywhere.

Really? Indie titles? I love Indie titles. But this is not an ace up the sleeve.

Indie titles will still arrive on next Gen consoles. You need games to play in-between the big titles. The majority of developers aren't going to run to Switch just because it plays games on the go. They may go there because it's cheaper for them to make games. But we don't have all the facts on development costs to put Indie games on next gen systems to compare.

The fact that Nintendo has litterally no quality control over uploaded indie games is kinda cool in an anarchistic sense. But gott daim how much crap you have to dig through to find a gem.

It's become harder on all systems to sift through games because there are so many now. So, I end up just looking only for the games I was interested in from a trailer after researching them first. Since I no longer have the time to play them all like when I was a kid.

But the article writer says that Switch has an advantage because it's portable. But neglects the disadvantages. If some Indie games for next Gen use advanced physics, A.I. textures, ray tracing, etc, chances are, games will be degraded or not even possible on Switch. Even haptic controls for next gen Indie games won't happen on Switch. Next Gen VR Indie games won't happen on Switch. Faster frame rated next Gen Indie games won't get Cross Play because Switch will be too slow.

I still think it's an awesome device. My cousin brought his over a week ago to let me check out his and play Pedro because it's my style like Hot Line Miami, Hong Kong Massacre, etc. The screen and controls are nice. It's just not in the same league as next Gen or in the same category.

We'll just have to see what happens in the development of games.

Actual Nintendo fan here (and PS4 pro fan), I can fairly say that Indies is not a Nintendo weapon at all. Every one has Indies. The selling point of the SWITCH is it is portable, and it has the most RPG's. Plus as several articles has pointed it out it it selling because of the most amount of AAA Exclusives. Never because of Indies.

Oh and yeah I own a xbox forza edition. It has Indies too.

I think Holiday 2021, because the Switch will be 4 years and 8 months old November 2021. Hopefully they can come up with at least the power of the PS4 pro. X1X is too much to ask for.

Problem is that you have to change architecture if u want better performance than the Tegra. That means the original switch games wouldn't work anymore. If not nVidia steps up their game.

Nvidia is the performance leader in gpu's. If they want to and Nintendo is welling to pay then they can do it. The real problem with the SWITCH is the cost! The Majority of the cost involves the touch screen. This is why when you buy a laptop that has touch screen the specs are MUCH lower for the price your paying. If Nintendo does away with the screen THEN they can compete fully. If not then the will have to stick with subpar graphics.

It looks like Nintendo's long term road map is as follows:

1 SWITCH (that can go from portable screen to home TV) like now.
2 SWITCH lite (portable screen only....No TV OUT) like now.
3 SWITCH HOME (not portable no screen....only out to tv and remote play). Like hinted at by both companies.

It's not as powerful as current gen, yet the Switch has just overtaken Xbox One in worldwide sales after less than three years on the market - it is tracking inline with PlayStation 4 sales at the same point in the consoles lifetime.

The Switch also has the highest rated exclusives this gen by far, despite being the least powerful.

Now that we have concluded that a lack of power has not negatively affected Switch in any meaningful way using the two favoured metrics (sales and exclusives) on N4G to prove this - in what way do you think Switch will be "obliterated" next gen?

Switch is getting big downgraded current gen games for multiplayer. Next gen games have to abort and the consoles capabilities will be too far past it to accommodate for anymore. Meaning minty will sink back to what they’re normally doing where it’s only first party.

@Wasabi I will answer since there was no answer. You asked to count the number of multi platform games. Out of the 26 games listed only ONE was multi platform. And it wasn't until number 21 MINECRAFT. Wow only Minecraft cracked the top 26. I would have thought that Doom or NBA, or soccer, NFL, or baseball, or Fortnite . or Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, would have made the top. But not against Nintendo's line up.
