Oh for goodness sake, here we go again.

Just because they say they can support up to 8k 120fps, it doesn't mean any game will actually play like that. Realistically, most games will be 4K 30fps, with tweaked graphics settings, which will be lower than the highest settings on high end pc's.

I hate these kinds of articles, it just makes the person writing it look a bit clueless and a complete amateur. It's even more embarrassing when the writer says he is a pc hardware enthusiast 😬

FlyingFoxy2024d ago (Edited 2024d ago )

You're getting downvotes but what you said is pretty much fact.

There's articles out there showing games like Rise of the Tomb Raider among others hitting 53FPS minimums on a 2080Ti at 4K resolution: https://www.tomsguide.com/u... The PS5/Xbox series x GPU are both said to be similar to each other, both are going to be around 40% or so slower than that 2080Ti. So marketing it as a "native 4K 60FPS console" is misleading IMO. The only way the new consoles are hitting those FPS figures is by using medium quality textures or dynamic resolution again. No graphically demanding game will stay at 60FPS, no chance if a high end PC GPU can't.

Next gen PC GPUs will be even further ahead when they launch by Summer, we all know the 2080Ti and 2000 series in general is overpriced, and if we get a proper gen of new cards this time (as we used to) then even the 3070 should be as powerful, more so for raytracing performance.

One thing the consoles do have is value of the cost of the components inside them, you'll struggle to build a similar spec PC as the next gen consoles for the same price at first as this article states https://www.pcgamesn.com/so...

That said, I wouldn't skimp on PC stuff anyway, put an extra $200-$300 on top of the next gen console price and of course it would outperform them. I personally prefer 1440p as 90+FPS is the sweet spot and very smooth, less demanding than 4K 60 too.

SegaGamer2024d ago (Edited 2024d ago )

Let them disagree, if people want to ignore facts then that is up to them.

If anybody thinks modern games are going to run at 4K 60fps, for an entire generation, on the same or slightly upgraded hardware halfway through that generation......well, it's like I said in the past, they are living in a fantasy world.

The people saying it will quite simply do not understand the power needed to leap from 1080p to 4K, 30fps to 60fps and medium settings to ultra settings. The jump in power when it comes to hardware is huge. You're not getting that with a $500 console, unless these companies are willing to take a huge profit loss to acquire the parts. If a console cost $800, then yeah, I think that thing would be pretty damn powerful, but it won't cost anything close to that.

Also, I really hate when people compare the price of pc parts compared to a console anyway. PC hardware is not solely created for gaming. Yes, you can build a pc targetted for getting the very best experience out of gaming, but the parts you are buying are made for more than that, which is one of the reasons why they cost so much money.

BenRC012022d ago

It may be 30% slower on paper but its far more optimised to shove polys at the screen. These comparisons are never right and just pc fanboy noise.
But yeah, it'll be lucky to hit 4k 60 nevermind anything higher, no doubt Ray tracing will be the new buzzword and bring any claimed performance spec crashing to its knees.

Larrysweet2022d ago

U cant compare pc to console once again..devs work way closer to the metal and optimization is leaps bounds better...trust me if x and pro cam do native 4k solid 30 then ps5 series x with way way way better CPU and double GPU 4k 60 will be easy peasy just deal with it...I know y'all gonna be mad when they run game 4k 60 and ur 2080ti cant

chronoforce2022d ago (Edited 2022d ago )

It's not a stretch to think some games will achieve 4k 60Fps. Some Fps games like Doom, Wolfenstein, COD and Battlefield target 60fps. Racing Sims and sports games tend to target high frame rates and some actions games like DMC target 60fps.

DarkZane2022d ago

You mean people still think next gen will be 4k/60fps? It won't because developers will push for better visuals instead of framerate and you will end up with 4K/30fps again because better visuals sell better than better framerate to casuals and casuals make up the biggest part of console fanbases. Unfortunately, resolution isn't the only thing that affect visuals, so just because current pro consoles can be 4k/30fps already doesn't mean the next step is 4k/60fps.

Y'all do know the X is already doing 4k 60 and when it doesn't it's coming close. This console is way more powerful. Why do ppl compare pc to console? Console is way more optimized than PC you get more out of console than you would from a PC with the same specs. Everyone should know this by now. 8k 120 yeah thats ridiculous and imo unneeded and while I'm sure some games could do it many devs will rather go a different route. It being marketed as 4k 60 native console isn't far fetch and more accurate than not.

JokerBoy4222022d ago

I'm sure we will see 60 fps be the standard and the push for 120 fps to be more common from now on seeing how the Series X is supposedly 4X more powerful than the One X and that system is already a beast that is only held back by the OG Xbox One's CPU.

I agree that 8K will most likely not be a reality. At best we will get something like checkerboarding that basically just simulates a higher resolution.

Imortus_san2022d ago

4K 30fps hope not, 4K 60fps is the way to go.

Obscure_Observer2022d ago

@SegaGamer

"Just because they say they can support up to 8k 120fps, it doesn't mean any game will actually play like that"

I belive that will be the case with smaller AA, indie and BC games. Specially if SX´s 12TF rumors turn out to be truth.

"Realistically, most games will be 4K 30fps, with tweaked graphics settings, which will be lower than the highest settings on high end pc's."

Phil Spencer already said that the SX has a focus on performance and is targeting 4K/60fps for most games!

nismo3702022d ago

We heard the same thing for last gen.

MasterCornholio2022d ago

"Phil Spencer already said that the SX has a focus on performance and is targeting 4K/60fps for most games!"

You mean 1st party games. Most games will be made by 3rd party developers and Microsoft can't force them to choose performance over visuals. So there goes that claim down the toilet.

SegaGamer2022d ago

"Phil Spencer already said that the SX has a focus on performance and is targeting 4K/60fps for most games!"

By most games, he more than likely means indie games. If you add raytracing to games, you can guarantee most games won't be hitting that mark. 4K 60fps is a huge ask, if you want it, then you should expect corners to be cut somewhere else, and it will most likely be in the areas where performance is hit the most, like AA, shadows, grass, detail, and raytracing. Then, as time goes on, the console get's older and falls behind current tech, that 4K60fps target becomes impossible to achieve without a significant upgrade. This is the reality of hardware for consoles.

Larrysweet2022d ago

Nope be 4k 60 standard 1080 120fps 8k 30

It’ll be $479 or $429 calling it now!

CaptainHenry9162024d ago (Edited 2024d ago )

$499 there I fix it for you bud

medman2023d ago

Man, I think the series x is going to cost 599, with the series s (or whatever they call the less capable variant) costing 399.

chiefJohn1172022d ago

Nah this gonna be a $600 console. Series S will be in the $400 range like medman said

BenRC012022d ago

My guess - base model £350-400, cheapo model £275-300, premium £500-600.
People will pay £1000 for an iPhone which does absolutely nothing more (in real terms) than the older model.

chronoforce2022d ago

Sure it costs £1000 but I am sure most people spread that over 2 or 3 years.

BenRC012021d ago

Same as a console then now we have mid gen refresh.

contra1572022d ago

Who cares it’s about gameplay not graphical power . This is important for noobs

jjb19812022d ago

I have an FTW3 2080 ti and I cant hit 60fps on some games @4K unless I set everything on High with some settings turned off. Console games seem to be missing a lot of lighting effects that give them realistic environments. I'm still gonna buy it but I hope developers focus on framerates over resolution or give us options.

Imalwaysright2022d ago

"but I hope developers focus on framerates over resolution..." Some might, the majority won't.
