Ace Combat 7 deserves recognition for presenting a single-player experience that didn't get greedy with microtransactions or live service.

Yeah to be honest my favorite was Hawks that third person view had me loving flying.... it was amazing...

This just seemed like it had nothing special... just my opinion I could be wrong, but that's why I didn't get it...

Didn't fly above mine. I got it recently during Cyber Monday for $15 and it's as good as the previous games like 2,3,4,5. Never played 6 as it was released on Xbox. Air Combat I don't count. I skipped Assault Horizon.

But the VR mode, is **INCREDIBLE.** If you can handle motion in VR. It's so good in VR, it's very hard to play the standard mode without it. When you're flying, you feel like you're flying. The graphics are there. The speed is there. The sound effects are there. Why there isn't more than 3 missions is insanity. Namco could have really taken this game to the next level. It may not be able to do all regular missions. But PSVR could handle most of them. It's a shame there isn't more.

As for micro transactions and services games, yes, they didn't go that route. But they still released a lot of dlc packs and season pass that are still cash ins. Money grabs. One paid for dlc allows a "music player." A MUSIC PLAYER. Back in the day, I didn't have to buy dlc, which I won't, to listen to Streets of Rage music. Or listen to Y's music. Or Shadow Dancer music. Gunstar Heroes music. What's up with that? DLC to get a music player? Sure, you get more planes and a few missions. But that music player should be free. They may not have done the other stuff. But this is still outrageous. I don't need the player. But wow. That dlc burger is still relevant. Even Polyphony gives out free cars every month or tracks. But Namco can't with planes or missions?

They still have cash grabs.

Agree, I bought the game day one and had lots of fun playing a proper Ace Combat again. I did buy Assault Horizons and disliked the chopper sections and the new control scheme. After finishing the game I realised you could actually fly using the old control setup, but by then I had already cultivated a dislike for the game. Only got to play the first three levels of Ace6 while at a friend's who bought the game but ended up hating it, so the game sat never to be played as he was on XBox and I was on PlayStation.

The VR portion of the game was fun but was hardly enough, as I would have liked to do some of the bombing runs and the others like flying into lightning storms in the caverns avoiding stone structures and fighting the wind and the flight stick.

The air show was okay to look at one time but would never go back.

I would like to get an extra DLC single player campaign missions but haven't looked into any of them yet.

I played the demo with the copter and didn't like it. The close up stuff in horizon turned me off.

The air show was cool for a minute. I watched all the flight moves them jumped back to VR. Yeah. Probably won't go back into it. I need a Hotas though for all the games I got that are compatible.

The crazy part is having my swivel chair for sit down games, my bass headphones and PSVR on my head. Feels like a pilot's helmet. Like this:

With the Hotas, it's going to be crazy. Just waiting for a price drop. I should have bought it at $34 before they jacked the price back to $70-$80 when the game came out. Sad part is that it doesn't have rumble.

Oh dude lol that sucks. I liked Assault Horizons quite a bit, but it was very disappointing as an Ace Combat game. And the first thing I did was change my control scheme.

But even that didn't make the action sequences, helicopter levels, and mounted mini-gun levels feel weird in that game.

Again, I liked the game for what it was. It was all very well done. It just wasn't Ace Combat.

CorndogBurglar1588d ago

I was coming here to say the same thing. Yeah, Ace Combat 7 was great. But it had more than its share of paid DLC...

LoveSpuds1588d ago

You are a better man than I, I was ready to puke after 5 mins in VR😂

I was gutted because it was such an exhilarating experience for the first 4 minutes, then all of a sudden......yuck!

ApocalypseShadow1588d ago

All man. That sucks. I've played flying games since Air Raiders on Atari. I like flying. And Ace Combat 2 and 4 were my favorite games. Air Force Delta wasn't too bad by Konami on Dreamcast. But was by the numbers. I always wished for VR since the 80's.

I was hoping I didn't have a problem with the VR mode like with Dirt Rally, and I didn't which was good. My dream becomes reality. Going to play it often. It's still not perfect looking and arcade like, but I love it.

rainslacker1588d ago (Edited 1588d ago )

I was disappointed that I didn't get the pre-order. I forgot all about the game, and it passed me by. I would have loved to have had the older Ace Combat remaster, which was only available through the pre-order bonus.

Really loved AC7 though. Gave me a reason to buy a flight stick, and now need to find another game to use it with. I'm on the fence about the DLC.

I never consider Ace Combat as related to Tom Cruise or his movies..

AnotherGamer87d ago

Then again, they did put the Top Gun DLC in the game lol.

Luc2087d ago

Great game but even on easy is too challenging after the first few missions. Couldn't progress and gave up

BillyCrystals87d ago

Ya, the timer kept ****ing me. Timers in games are almost always a fun killer.

Not a Tom Cruise fan but Ace Combat is a fun game. I don’t buy skins so I didn’t know there was a Tom Cruise skin and I was fine without knowing and you ruined it for me! Jk but I could have lived without knowing
