Is EA Finally Learning After Fallen Order Sales Success?

Jedi: Fallen Order has enjoyed both commercial and critical success since its launch last month. Its sales have led to something of a new hope for Star Wars fans. A single player game under EA that bucked the monetisation trend and also sold well. Yet Fallen Order’s release sales are far less than the much contrived Battlefront II. Will popular opinion outweigh raw profit margins and finally teach EA the benefits of an honest product?

EA are smart, they will certainly be learning things from Fallen Order's success. The problem is what we want them to learn and what they will actually take away from Fallen Order are completely different things.

Have you seen how much they are worth? They are smart enough to know how to make money, as long as that money continues to come in, I doubt they care about how much hate they get.

Not sure what they're learning, but they seem to be happiest with their yearly repackaging of their sport games that sell really well.

The issue is multiplayer games with monetization will always be more attractive to EA as they generate more revenue. Single players games are worthless for them and their investors in the long term.

They are money smart not PR smart which actually makes them intentionally stupid. If they were truly smart and treated us with some fake/pretentious respect once in a while they would double, triple their earnings.

Take the game at hand, Fallen Order. This was a direct reaction to their failed Star wars efforts the last 5-6 years. We know and they know they are not going to change into the most consumer-loving publisher out there and that this well made, monetization free game wasn't a new direction for them but just a temporary truce act to buy some goodwill long enough to launch their next round of "surprise mechanics".

Highly doubt it. While the Fallen Order is achieving some well deserved sales success, I can almost guarantee you that it is just a drop in the pan from a profit standpoint in comparison to everything else EA monetizes the figurative crap out of. I just hope they give BioWare some space to do DragonAge some single player (non-micro transaction) justice...

I enjoyed the game, but I'm hesitant to believe it would have been half as successful without being "Star Wars."

Word of mouth says that the game is good. Star wars is its base so there is not much reason to discuss if it would have been as successful if it wasnt star wars.
It would have been a completely different game then.

I do not see why this is not more upvoted. It was clear that Bob Iger had to course correct the Star Wars brand in ALL facets to save it. This included EA's contract to supply games. There were even rumors of a Bob Iger call to the CEO of EA to get it right or face consequences. Lo and behold a SP-Jedi Combat-AAA star wars game was announced shortly after.

Yes, they learned that they should have stuffed this full of microtransactions because it sold well and then money they could of made with microtransactions from this would have been huge. That is what they have learned. So if there is a sequel, prepare for MTX gallore.

I say it’s too early to tell if EA has learned from Fallen Order. Now if they announce another game with no micro transactions then I would say they’ve learned. I hope they do because Capcom has been listening to us fans and it’s paying off for them.

I don't think so. Why you ask, well because they have decades worth of horrible practices! I think Fallen Order is just so they can say "see we do SP games.

Once a company begins doing things and pushing things I don't believe in I leave them in the dust. EA isn't the only one I've done this to either.

The second game is “hey make a great game devs but these suits at EA know how to make it even better, do this too”.

As was stated in the article sales were far less than the latest Battlefront game so am not sure what lesson they were supposed to have learnt here apart from the fact that multiplayer games laden with micro-transactions make a lot more money.

I think it is more a Respawn thing more than anything - EA has learned nothing and will continue the same practices. Look at Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes on mobile, as a new player it will cost you about $5000 to be competitive or grind for 2-3 years, and by then the meta will have changed 100 times
