Is EA Finally Learning After Fallen Order Sales Success?

Jedi: Fallen Order has enjoyed both commercial and critical success since its launch last month. Its sales have led to something of a new hope for Star Wars fans. A single player game under EA that bucked the monetisation trend and also sold well. Yet Fallen Order’s release sales are far less than the much contrived Battlefront II. Will popular opinion outweigh raw profit margins and finally teach EA the benefits of an honest product?

Lol one little things means nothing to EA

They are far too proud and stubborn to learn anything

xTonyMontana1599d ago

EA are smart, they will certainly be learning things from Fallen Order's success. The problem is what we want them to learn and what they will actually take away from Fallen Order are completely different things.

UltraNova1599d ago

If they were smart they wouldn't be the most hated part of this industry now would they?

xTonyMontana1599d ago

Have you seen how much they are worth? They are smart enough to know how to make money, as long as that money continues to come in, I doubt they care about how much hate they get.

Fist4achin1599d ago

(Cough, cough) they killed off the Dead Space series, Mass Effect hasn't been that good, the best Dragon Age game was the first, what happened with Crysis, no decent Medal of Honor games lately,...

Not sure what they're learning, but they seem to be happiest with their yearly repackaging of their sport games that sell really well.

blanka45451599d ago

let's see lol! Microtransactions watch they go back to it lol!

jonny8971599d ago

The issue is multiplayer games with monetization will always be more attractive to EA as they generate more revenue. Single players games are worthless for them and their investors in the long term.

UltraNova1599d ago (Edited 1599d ago )

xTony

They are money smart not PR smart which actually makes them intentionally stupid. If they were truly smart and treated us with some fake/pretentious respect once in a while they would double, triple their earnings.

Take the game at hand, Fallen Order. This was a direct reaction to their failed Star wars efforts the last 5-6 years. We know and they know they are not going to change into the most consumer-loving publisher out there and that this well made, monetization free game wasn't a new direction for them but just a temporary truce act to buy some goodwill long enough to launch their next round of "surprise mechanics".

If you cant see this then... good luck friend.

Over and out.

I don't know man just look at the new Battlefield V trailers for the latest update it was pure WW2, no cyborg-women no nothing.

spwittbold1599d ago

Not sure if your asking for cyborg-women, or saying that they are learning because of the awful response to BF5 initial launch/reveal and its focus on a irrellivant WW2 scenario to push a Social Justice agenda.

OldGuyStillGaming1599d ago

Well they’re 3 for 3 with the last 3 games I bought that didn’t have micro transactions
Need for Speed Heat
Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order
Plants vs Zombies fight for neighborville
They’re all great games
They could be listening to the fans now

isarai1600d ago

Doubt it but no way to know till we see what their future projects look like.

fonger081600d ago

Highly doubt it. While the Fallen Order is achieving some well deserved sales success, I can almost guarantee you that it is just a drop in the pan from a profit standpoint in comparison to everything else EA monetizes the figurative crap out of. I just hope they give BioWare some space to do DragonAge some single player (non-micro transaction) justice...

xX-oldboy-Xx1599d ago

Probably not - they'll see it as an anomaly. It'll take more than one success to change their minds.

banshyork1599d ago

Is this really a success in terms of money though? You would expect a super popular franchise like this to sell more than 20 million copies atleast on multiple platforms

xX-oldboy-Xx1598d ago

Considering the comments from EA regarding SP gaming and the lukewarm reception SWBF2 got - yes this is a success.

Darth Vader's Scariest Depiction Is in a Video Game

There have been plenty of depictions of Darth Vader in various media forms, but his appearance in Jedi: Fallen Order is by far the most fearsome.

Sciurus_vulgaris404d ago

I strongly disagree. Vader was more intimidating in Rogue One and the Obi-Wan series.

mkis007404d ago

I know what your saying but fallen order was scarier for me. Dont know shy.

myfathersbastard404d ago (Edited 404d ago )

Yeah his rogue one scene and his first encounter with Obi Wan in Obi Wan were pure monster movie type stuff.
Although he had the same vibes in Fallen Order.
Really this just shows how much good Vader we’ve gotten in recent years. That’s how Vader works best imo. As an unstoppable nightmare.

Best Star Wars game, in my opinion.

PrimeVinister1225d ago

I would agree. There have been some amazing games (but mostly terrible) but JFO beats all.

And I respect how good the first Battlefront for GC was. This isn't a recency bias.

ChristianReggieWait1225d ago

OG Battlefront was amazing, and quite easy to run on PC when it released if i remember correctly!

ChristianReggieWait1225d ago

Yep. Honourary mentioned goes to Jedi Knight 2 and Jedi Academy though ♥️

SegaGamer1225d ago

Those two are still my favourite Star Wars games.

CorndogBurglar1225d ago

TIE Fighter is by far the best Star Wars game ever made.

glennhkboy1225d ago

I must say The Knight of the Old Republic is the BEST SW game ever!!!! TIE Fighter is the 2nd best. :)

Rocketisleague1225d ago (Edited 1225d ago )

8 out of 10 for me. Great game. The games it took mechanics from did them better, sekiro did the combat better and other cinematic games handled that aspect better. Story was pretty great too.

Looking forward to the next respawn star wars game

One.of.my fav devs atm. With Titanfall, apex legends and star wars. Such a random genre to pick after working in mainly shooters and a great attempt, they have the experience for the nalext game now

Rocketisleague1225d ago (Edited 1225d ago )

To me this is clear cut, kotor is the best star wars game, they was bioware in their prime, one if the best rpgs ever msde abf the best star wars story out if movies/series/games

Characters. Hk47 anyone?

Ratchet751225d ago

You clearly haven't played knights of the old republic.

brando0081225d ago

Exactly what I was thinking lol. JFO is a fantastic game, but it's still not on KOTOR's level imo

Notellin1224d ago

I'm still going with Knights of the Old Republic. Jedi Knight 2, Pandemic's Battlefront 2 (the irony), and Jedi Fallen Order are all good enough I can't decide a runner up.

darthv721225d ago

Force Unleashed used to be my top but now this has taken that place. Such a good game / story.

ChristianReggieWait1225d ago

It's a culmination of Jedi Knight/Jedi Academy/Force Unleashed for me. It really Is a cracker!

ChristianReggieWait1225d ago

It's an absolute belter, but it's no longer considered canon. It's a tragedy but it looks like the upcoming High Republic push is going to address Revan etc

CorndogBurglar1225d ago

I don't know how. The High Republic era is long after the Old Republic era. I realize KOTOR is no longer canon, but shoving Revan into High Republic seems stupid, if thats true.

Bladesfist1225d ago

It's still my favourite game of all time

lex-10201224d ago

I agree Kotor is the best, but Fallen Order might have been the most important. It's officially Cannon and its success was hopefully a massive signal to EA that a high quality Single Play game without MicroTransactions still sells, and sells well.

SamPao1225d ago

Personally, I have great memories of of jedy academy, jedi outcast, kotor and The Force Unleashed.

Aaaand Bounty Hunter :)

ChristianReggieWait1225d ago

Same here, well bar Bounty Hunter. But in terms of canon content and overall experience, Fallen Order is up there ♥️

Smitty20201401d ago

I really enjoyed Jedi fallen order, more like this plz and don’t fak it up.

Thunder_G0d_Bane1401d ago

Just give me KOTOR remake or remaster and we good EA.

CrimsonWing691401d ago

Why do I have a baaaaad feeling about this?

Godmars2901401d ago

No, its "I have a bad feeling about this..."

CrimsonWing691400d ago

Yeesss Tropic Thunder, I’m so glad you referenced it!

jjb19811401d ago

Only because the House of Mouse will whoop dat ass if they don't.

Godmars2901401d ago

Unless EA can make them as much as a movie, unless they mess up again on a scale of Battle Front 2 again, the House of Mouse could care less.

That's where their scale is.
