PlayStation has been defined by 25 years of innovation

GR: "Over the past 25 years, we’ve seen Sony go from being an unproven gaming hardware manufacturer to experiencing widespread commercial success with the PlayStation 2 and 4. The reason they have been able to last so long is due to their technological know-how and their knack for innovation."

The last major game innovation was done by Nintendo in 96

telekineticmantis1697d ago (Edited 1697d ago )

PlayStation:
1.Took Home Consoles on the go. (PS ONE with Screen and Battery Pack.) Before Switch

2. Used Dual Analog Sticks(PS Flight Stick).

3. Created the right stick camera, left stick movement setup every 3D game uses today (Mech Warrior)

4. Create 3D Platformer for Consoles (Jumping Flash).

5. Create Play Create Share Genre; 1st was Little Big Planet(PlayStation) followed by... Minecraft(Xbox)... then Mario Maker(Nintendo).

6. Switch to Disk Based Games(Consoles).

7. Had a Toys to Life gimmick first (with ZXE-D, not SkyLanders, or Amibo).

8. Created the Music Game Genre

9. Create a standard way to Save Games on the Console(Memory Card).

10. Created Camera tracking Gameplay.

11. First to bring VR Gameplay to Consoles.

I understand your enthusiasm, but let me correct you a bit there:

1. The first hybrid console is the Sega Nomad.

5. Create and share game had existed way before Little Big Planet.

6. The first CD console was launched by Philips (1991) – the CD-i.

8. The first music game to be released on a home console dates back to 1987. The precursor to Dance Dance Revolution, Dance Aerobics.

11. Technically, the first console to have VR was the Virtual Boy.

I understand your enthusiasm, but let me correct you a bit:

1. Never said first, just they did it before Switch

5. Name it

6. Once again never said first. But PlayStation was responsible for the disk based switch revolution.

11. The Virtua Boy had no motion tracking, there was no virtual Gameplay, it was a Gameboy on a bipod you stuck on your face.

@telekinetic

Have you ever heard of a little game called “Garry’s Mod” which was released way back in December 24, 2004? Here is a quote from Wiki:

“ The base game mode of Garry's Mod has no set objectives and provides the player with a world to freely manipulate. Other game modes, notably Trouble in Terrorist Town, are created by other developers as mods and are installed separately, by means such as the Steam Workshop.”

Sound familiar?

King Noctis

Garry's Mod wasn't a Game developed by any developers, it was a Mod of Half Life, one of Many PC Mods. If that's the case, you might as well say Skyrim had blimps...

Try Google again.

2. Actually analog controls are much older than Nintendo 64, I said Dual analog sticks, in which you can use the control scheme I spoke of. And the PS Flight Stick is older than the Nintendo 64.

3 Once again, the PS Flight Stick is older than the Nintendo 64, and the control scheme you speak of is retarded, and not the same.

7. Controlling R.O.B. like a remote control car is not the same as a toy you have being able to enter a game.

#1. Very odd choice there. In addition to the Nomad, the turbo express was also there long before Sony slapped a TV to a PSOne.

#4 They published Jumping Flash, which was a variation of a PC game from its actual creator.

#5. RPG Maker probably stands out to most, then Fighter Maker. Game Maker started a bit later in the late 90s, too.

#8. Wasn't that an aerobics NES game? Mario Paint was the real music game though. Add that to #5, too.

#9. Neo Geo was first. Turbografx 16 cd used them too.

#11. Shout out to Sega VR for at least attempting it 13 years earlier.

Like what? The 3 handed controller?

I remember when PlayStation launched, I wasn't too sure because I was a rabid Nintendo fan. Well I got an N64 Xmas 96 and a PS1 Xmas 97 and my go DS was I blown away! RE Directors Cut with a RE2 demo and Nightmare Creatures were my first games. But when I played Metal Gear Solid I knew gaming was changing and there was so much more than I'd ever imagined. The dual analog sticks was game changing at the time as well. The DVD in the PS2 was very welcome as was the Blu Ray player in the PS3. Dreams is an example of recent innovation in that you can literally create any game you want, any!

That gen was awesome but the PS2 era was even better! I sit back and think about all the memories I've collected playing PS exclusives these last two decades and it just puts a smile on my face.

They were the first to fund and develop affordable VR. They've been working on it since the 90's and they've made almost 2 billion dollars gross. Pretty incredible and I can't wait to get my hands on a PS5! But the main thing that makes me a Sony fan is their dedication to narrative and character driven SP games. Emphasis on SP.

"to experiencing widespread commercial success with the PlayStation 2 and 4"

I'd argue 1,2, 3 and 4 all experienced widespread commercial success as even the PS3 outsold the 360 in the end and not many Nintendo consoles have reached these heights, just the Wii (the Switch is on course to as well).

Let’s School review - Games Asylum

Games Asylum: "Well, this is uncanny. This school management sim bears a startling resemblance to Two Point Campus, especially when it comes to planning and decorating rooms. Be sure to add a window and a radiator, along with a plant or rubbish bin. Indeed, certain aspects are almost identical – it’s just like revisiting Two Point Campus, only something is…off. It’s the visual style that leads to the uncanny valley feeling, using a low-poly PlayStation/Saturn aesthetic. An odd choice, considering the 32-bit consoles didn’t have a great amount of management sims. The PS1 did have Theme Hospital though – with Two Point Hospital being Campus’ predecessor, so we guess we can give it a pass on its artistic intent."
