5 Awesome PS5 Console Concept Designs

BY JOHN SANTINA: With the PS5 dev kit having now been pictured out in the wild, the design has some worrying that the final PS5 design will encompass the unique v-shape.

Fortunately, dev kits rarely resemble the final retail consoles that hit shelves (only one PlayStation dev kit has ever resembled the final console), which means that the PlayStation 5 design could be wildly different from the hardware that developers currently have their hands on.

Here are 5 awesome (and some weird) PS5 console designs.

All of these are impracticable and impossible on nearly every level.

I like this concept pretty good.

That is a fantastic design. I like the simple yet elegant, sleek and minimalist design.

The one in the news item? I would so love that, but considering the power the machine will have I really doubt and the cost of manufacturing it would be huge.

In the article they have one with hexagons, so many other developers (programmers, designers, artists) hate hexagons. They're just so overly used it's become a bit of a joke.

Whatever the final design is should be better than the current bed pan look of the dev kit.

discobastard2013d ago

This. BS product design is a waste of time. It's not even theoretically conceptual based on the hardware or user requirements...

That's a very sexy design, but how functional can it be in terms of cooling?

SyntheticForm2013d ago

That's what's most important; thermal considerations. Consoles can look great but case design must take a back seat in favor of cooling.

I'm sure the outcome will be acceptable.

@ Jin_Sakai now THAT looks great, and I love what they did with the mock up advertisement shot and all. I'd be quite happy with that. I actually expect Sony to do something cool with the console design again, and maybe be a little more futuristic than that evolutionary simplistic design in this concept you linked. Sony seems to be big on the design aspect of their Playstation products which I think is cool!

Zefros2012d ago

God luck with managing the heat. It looks great but how will it cool down? It's elegant sure. But the console needs to let out the heat, especially with the power it would produce. Imagine the fan noise when playing a game that uses almost all the power and is a huge open world game. Or a massive mp game. Thats why the V prototype should be how it looks, but add adjustments and make it look nicer in that v shape.

I love concept designs but these are way too ridiculous.

porkChop2013d ago

I would never place any of those under my TV. Consoles aren't toys, they should look elegant and fit in with other devices in your entertainment center.

IRetrouk2013d ago

I dont like these, or the v to be honest, I'm hoping for something nicer come launch, while a consoles looks have never stopped me buying, I would prefer a more normal looking machine.

Zefros2013d ago

I like t v design because while it don't look as elegant as the other ps consoles it will be a much better choise when it comes to cooling down the system while playing. Sony will probably give us something similar but in a more elegant package :).
