The Pokemon Sword and Shield Problem is Bigger Than Dexit

Game Freak has not only made a big mistake by making a Pokémon version of The Avengers by disappearing half of the Pokédex, without giving fans at least some level of input of what should be kept, they have also made a mistake by not really advancing the series in any real measure.

This entry is polarizing

Sono4212028d ago

The problem is that the "fans" will buy the new Pokemon games no matter what.

If cutting over half of the total number of Pokemon, almost doubling the price, having less content than previous games, having a complete lack of polish across the board, no story, no post game, and the graphics of a Gamecube game doesn't stop people from buying the game, nothing will.

At this point they could announce the next Pokemon game, it could have none of the old Pokemon at all, only include new ones, there could be only 51 new Pokemon, it could go back to the top down perspective with the graphics of a snes game and these "fans" would eat it up, they'd probably say something like "It's just like the old games, it's a reboot to the series" - 9.3/10 IGN or in other words "it's Pokemon" -9.3/10

Bateekh2028d ago

dude pokemon games have never had a titling story, you're playing wrong game lol. Graphics have always been fantasy and cartoony, so no issue there. Post game can always be expanded in a software update, and post game was never that deep anyway, typically people just egg grind and level up/max their pokemon or hunt for other pokemon.

Adding all the pokemon is unrealistic for the first main entry game on switch. Expect more pokemon to be added in next pokemon game and don't worry you will be able to trade all pokemon from sheild/sword into new main entry title next year. They don't all need to be in one game straight from the first entry switch game. People really need to cool it with this dexit business. sheesh!

also, a nice side effect of not having all the pokemon in one game is it forces you to use new pokemon, omg that's terrible isn't it? /s

Sono4212028d ago (Edited 2028d ago )

@Homushi

You're the worst apologist yet, at first I thought you were intentionally making bad arguments to make the people who defend the game look silly, but I now see you're actually serious.

1. Pokemon did have a story in Black and White, not to mention a lack of story in previous games isn't an argument, there is a "campaign" so there should be a "story" not just a lazy excuse to catch some Pokemon and walk down a straight line.
2. The issue isn't with the graphics looking "fantasy" or "cartoony" the issue is jagged edges, low res textures, and being capped at 30 FPS and STILL dipping below that despite low res textures. Bad graphics isn't a style, they're just bad graphics, if your game can literally be compared to an N64 game graphically clearly you messed up somewhere.
3. You're using the "patch it in later" for post game huh? You really are scrapping the bottom of the barrel, I really hope you aren't actually serious. There is no reason for no post game when the vanilla game offers MUCH less than the 3DS games for.... ALMOST DOUBLE THE PRICE. I'll say it again so it really sinks in, this game has MUCH LESS CONTENT than older games..... for ALMOST DOUBLE THE PRICE.
4. Adding all of the Pokemon is 100000% realistic, why? because they ALREADY MADE HD MODELS FOR EVERY SINGLE OLD POKEMON, now GameFreak said they aren't using those models and had to recreate every model from scratch and that's why Pokemon were cut.................. except the fact that now the game is out and we can compare the models..... AND they lied, they are indeed using the HD future proof models they made for Pokemon X and Y, so there is literally NO REASON for them not to add all of them, especially when it's a fact that they lied about the reason behind cutting them.
5. "and don't worry you will be able to trade all pokemon from sheild/sword into new main entry title next year. " Imagine if you said this about Sun and Moon, you would be 100% wrong, so what evidence do you have to support this? You are clearly a die hard fanboy in denial, the fact you use having less Pokemon is a good thing because it forces you to use new Pokemon says it all. You're delusional.

Oh and last but certainly not least, this is the highest grossing franchise... OF ALL TIME, they literally make THE MOST MONEY, they could afford to do LITERALLY ANYTHING, but instead those chose to release an unpolished game lacking with content and almost doubled the price, oh and released 2 versions of the game to trick their die hard fans into buying 2 copies (Probably you)

They COULD afford to make the games as graphically impressive as Super Mario Odyssey, to actually add a story, to actually have ANY post game, to include all the Pokemon, to knock out all those terrible technical issues and lack of polish, to add more content, but nope, they chose to release one of the worst Pokemon games to date.

Preach

People say those who are criticising are being negative but all we are doing is trying to get the very best for all fans of this series so Game Freak will make the Pokemon game we've all dreamt of.

Eat up any old shit and give them a pass you'd easilly blast other companies for and they'll never change

Hell after the high sales, they probably won't ever again.

They'll now add all the Pokemon in the next game, say they are "listening to fans", the game will most likely not have another jump at all and they'll market the game featuring all the Pokemon as good PR. The cycle continues.

bluefox7552028d ago

This has always been an issue with Nintendo. They could serve poop on a plate, and as long as it had the Nintendo logo, fans would be clamoring.

@CCGR

It's because the games aren't where they should be for a 2019 practically 2020 RPG. The games have been revamped and slightly updated, but they still feel like they're stuck in the 1 to 2 generation behind current RPGs.

@Sono421

The games aren't bad games at all, they're just average in almost every way. "Fans" the accept anything are going to buy that games regardless, and fans who have complaints are going to buy them as well, because even though the games aren't the evolution they should or could have been, however, they are consistent which is what fans expect from a Pokemon game a consistently good adventure RPG, with cool new Pokemon, designs, and a world to explore.

The formula they have has carried them for 20 years, and that core is still solid, therefore, they will be solid games. However, many fans are in agreement that they aren't treating the IP as if it's not one of the biggest media brands, and the games are subpar compared to other RPGs on the platform and in gaming in general, and they should be held accountable in reviews (which plenty are highlighting especially Eurogamer), and on the Pokemon Fan pages, which has been happening.

All we can do is hope for better in the next release, because I doubt we'll be much DLC, and if they can't live up to the expectation, then it's time to highlight other similar RPGs that are willing to create the experience we want.

Dragon Quest Monsters were amazing games on GameBoy that rivaled Pokemon in almost everyway IMO, but the Monster franchise kind of fell off with the DS releases. Monster Hunter could return, Digimon is a bit too different setting wise, and other games like Monster Hunter, Yokai Watch, Ni no Kuni, or something new should be recommended, so people can experience those games as well.

2pacalypsenow2028d ago

It's OK though.

IGN gave it a 9.3/10

-Foxtrot2028d ago (Edited 2028d ago )

Pretty much

- IGN talking about why they overlooked legit criticism

"We decided it’s not the time or place, and the entire controversy deserves a more comprehensive article (which takes time, and I was busy working on the review.) The review is my opinion, I shouldn’t change it based on the community being mad, but on my experience with the game"

https://twitter.com/ShinyCa...

Imalwaysright2028d ago

"The review is my opinion, I shouldn’t change it based on the community being mad, but on my experience with the game"

So she wrote the review based on the experience she had with the game? That's exactly what a review is.

TK-662028d ago (Edited 2028d ago )

Agreed. Anyone who think Dexit is the main concern is fooling themselves.

Bateekh2028d ago

After evaluating this game the dexit issue is miniscule and doesn't matter. Nintendo Switch is a new system architecture. You can't just grab the pokemon from 3DS and throw them into a switch. Doesn't work that way from development stand point. A conversion has to take place.

Shield and Sword versions were first main entry pokemon game on switch. recreation of the models and their animations of the previous pokemon will have to be recreated for the switch as well as for the brand new pokemon. They've already included like 400 something pokemon for this game.

In the next main pokemon game, they'll add the rest and you will be able to trade the galar pokemon and whatever other pokemon were in there into the new title next year. so dexit should never have been a problem and these so called passionate pokemon fans really need to calm down and understand that adding a million pokemon from the get go isn't the way. This is the FIRST main entry pokemon game on switch, you gotta recreate everything.

second, people mentioning its billion dollar franchise is irrelevant. Doesn't matter how much money you throw at it, people are developing it, and people aren't perfect. There will always be some bug or some issue. Money stops helping at some point is what I'm saying. Take a look at Apple Products. It's a trillion dollar company but they managed to release horrible keyboards for their all star macbook pro. It happens guys.

anyway, I just purchased the game yesterday and looking forward to playing it today. and I look forward to trading those pokemon into the next game on switch. :)

Ricegum2028d ago

Weak reply to a decent comment. Nice.

PlayableGamez-2028d ago

@Ricegum He used Apple as a prime example on why it's okay to put out crappy products.
I guess it makes sense because Apple fans and Pokemon fans have a lot in common.

Dragonscale2028d ago

And this is why they can get away with it, when fans defend and buy it no matter what. It send the message that its acceptable and will sell no matter of the quality of the game. Damage control indeed. Btw the switch architecture argument is pure deflection tbh.

@Homushi

"In the next main pokemon game, ..."

wait...so your advice to the whole Pokemon fanbase is "just suck it up and buy Sw&Sh now for $120 and wait for GameFreak to *HOPEFULLY* make it better in the next release and spend another $120"??

yup...so it's confirmed that Pokemon apologists are the WORST and the DUMBEST SHEEP I've ever seen bar NONE! OR...maybe you're a GameFreak or Nintendo employee!

"recreation of the models and their animations of the previous pokemon will have to be recreated for the switch..."

Stop right there! what new models? what new animations? you still believe all THAT despite people already proving their lies? they re-use assets from previous 3DS games and let's not talk about the animations. PS2 level at best!

"Nintendo Switch is a new system architecture."

The Switch is almost 3 years old and is using Tegra X1 which is even older! "new architecture" my a$$! Plus, this is their 2nd game on the system. no excuses!

"You can't just grab the pokemon from 3DS and throw them into a switch. Doesn't work that way from development stand point. A conversion has to take place."

LOL apparently they can! because they are indeed using reused 3DS assets. and why are you defending them THIS hard? this is not a launch game. the Switch is not even as complicated as the PS3 at launch! what excuses does Game Freak have when Naughty Dog was able to make Uncharted DF on their first try on the PS3 and their last game was Jak3 which was totally a different genre with a different art styles?? and Naughty Dog is not even making a quarter of the money GameFreak is making with Pokemon games and they have been releasing Pokemon games almost every year since 1999! how incompetent can they be?? and they claim that "1000 people are working on this game" - doing WHAT? opening extra bank accounts because they already knew sheep will defend and buy this lazy ass of a game no matter what? Luigi's Mansion 3 just release too and even that game makes Sw&Sh looks a gen behind!

you know what...If you say that you're a GameFreak empoyee, I'm convinced! because no self-respecting Pokemon fan would stoop so low for a developer as lazy as this yet still adamant to demand $120 for 2 basically same games with exclusive contents in each and kinda forcing you to buy both if the "GOTTA CATCH'EM ALL" - the freakin motto for the franchise!! DISGUSTING!

pecorre2028d ago

I don't understand Pokemons fans. They want change, BUT there is a fan outrage because they want to play with their old Pokemons.
