Is this worth playing offline? The game looks fun.

TGG_overlord1999d ago

I would recommend that you watch some let's plays before you pick this one up.

Well the only benefit to online is you can play coop, but its perfectly fine single player, its pretty much the opposite of hand holding though, so like TGG suggested id watch some gameplay first. It can be punishing as hell

It's hard to tell. Is the game super janky? I don't mind the difficulty.

TGG_overlord1999d ago

The reviews has been somewhat mixed depending on format...

Depends on what you like, it's very unforgiving and has zero hand holding and in that is what makes it shine. You are not the chosen one, you're just a dude who inherited their fathers debt, and enemies have a set lvl, so go to the wrong area and you'll get one shotted real quick. There are no waypoints or gps/floating markers and instead you're expected to triangulate your position based on landmarks. Carrying capacity is dependent in backpack and pockets, more weight equals less speed, but at the touch of a button you can drop your backpack petty much maximizing movement speed. Combat is very much like demon souls but more trap centric.

Theres a lot more but just watch a couple official trailers. Easily one of my favorite RPGs/games this gen personally, but it's not everyone's cop of tea

Good comment and point. That's also why I recommend people to watch some gameplay videos and read some reviews BEFORE picking the game up themselves.

Such an underrated game. Not only as an RPG but also the fact that it's 100% co-op and local split screen like come on man that's awesome

QuantumMechanic139d ago (Edited 139d ago )

My gal and I have a love-hate relationship with the first one. The concept is amazing; the difficulty is sometimes brutal. I'll never forget trying to return to town before dark---trying to help my gal's character because she was slow---diseased from eating undercooked food. Meanwhile, I was being chased by a chocobo that had become smitten with her for some reason. Traumatic gameplay, lol!

True it is GRUELING when you you're starting out. Wasnt actually till my 3rd time starting over that i realized you really need to make a B-line for the trainers and get as many skills to enhance stamina/health/damage as you can, makes it a much more enjoyable rate of progression.

GhostScholar138d ago (Edited 138d ago )

It’s good but a really hot take to say best co op gams ever

"Anyone who has read any of my columns for this site knows that I am not much of a gamer."

Sorry, why would this person be hired to write for a gaming site?

Inverno138d ago

"A tired and befuddled writer in his fifties who, having had his gaming gene surgically removed in his early twenties, is now returning to the gaming world due to the enthusiasm of his games-mad son. He is finding the scenery much changed and very confusing, though with much quicker loading times."
Cause you can fall out of love with a hobby, or even develop new hobbies and then wanna write about said hobby/hobbies. Gamers aren't born, they're made.

rippermcrip137d ago

I didn't say he can't have a hobby. I asked why he's hired as a professional writer for that topic.
