Review: Resident Evil Triple Pack - Nintendolife

While this 'second trilogy' compilation offers diminishing returns in terms of quality, Resident Evil 4 still shines brightly, even if the Switch port deserved a little more care and attention. The real draw here will be that game in physical form, and as always it is very disappointing to see that the other two titles must be downloaded. If RE4 is all you care about, getting the fifth and sixth entries as downloadable 'extras' isn't a bad deal and there's fun to be had in the latter two games, although you'll arguably need a friend to get the most out of them. Even Resident Evil 6 - much maligned as a series low point - can be fun if you’re after a straight-up co-op action shooter. As a collection of the 'action' branch of mainline Resident Evil games, this isn't a bad offering at all; just make sure you've got the necessary memory space for the downloads.

Arent 2 of the games download code and RE4 is on the cartridge? Pretty stupid! I might consider this if it was all on cartridge.

Exvalos1970d ago (Edited 1970d ago )

really sad these games are like 4.99 on other consoles and also look and run better.

bangoskank1970d ago

What's even more sad is consumers allow this to continue by enabling it.

InKnight7s1970d ago

I hate these save X amount thing. Tell me the price or I won't bother.

TeamIcoFan1970d ago

It says it right there, on sale for $44.99...

Capcom needs to stop their mess & sell these triple packs @ $25 on all platforms.

RosweeSon2010d ago

But they won’t if someone feels they can overcharge they’ll do it look at Xbox charging £40 for 15+ years just to get online. And then full £59.99 for digital games and when questioned oh yeah well look into this, well that never happened.
Capcom obviously saw games launch at that top price thought we’d give it a go ripped off a few die hard fans and now the price drops and actually trying to sell it happen.
Why they couldn’t have launched at the reduced rate, greed. Sure it’s 3 games in one, being ported for the how many times now.

FallenAngel19842010d ago

What business sense would that make to Capcom when they still sell each game individually on every other platform for $20 except Switch

Zeldafan642010d ago

$30 for several years old ports is ridiculous.

Neonridr2009d ago

Naturally they are going to charge higher for the Switch release since it came along at a later time. Only natural. At least the price is dropping rather quickly and getting down to more tolerable numbers.

LoneGaymer2009d ago

Only 30 frames per second, yeah no. I'll stick with the pro/X1 X versions at 60 fps.

Neonridr2009d ago

I'm sure you play plenty of games at only 30fps. Even on the Pro or 1X.

Concertoine2009d ago

Yeah but the funny thing is there's not much reason these games shouldnt run at 60 fps. Capcom for some reason prioritized 1080p output over a consistent framerate. They also didn't lock it at 30 so it jumps from mid 20's up to 60.

Just make them 720p and 60 fps like Bayonetta 1 and 2.

Neonridr2007d ago

@LoneGaymer - who cares? When you played the game the first time it was probably sub 30fps.

iplay1up22009d ago

RE6 is the worst in the series!

LoneGaymer2007d ago

Leon's campain is excellent. The rest.....eeewww

Are Switch ports like Resident Evil Triple Pack and Skyrim really worth $60?

"Look, I appreciate that publishers are supporting the Switch. I even recognize that physical versions of Switch games should be assumed to cost a little more due to the storage medium involved. But let’s be real here. Some of these games are overpriced," writes Kyle at Game Freaks 365.

A lot of elements about Switch is overpriced. What else is new?

_SilverHawk_2028d ago (Edited 2028d ago )

Not one game on switch is worth full price when all the technology of the games are last gen tech. PSP games and ps vita games were normally cheaper than console games and able to be played on a television as well. Nintendo sells cardboard at a premium price and the switches online service requires payment when its utter rubbish. Nintendo online system is worse than the online service of the ps3 and ps vita which are old and free. Even though xbl and psn offers a lot for ps4 and xbox I believe those online services should be free as well. The witcher 3 on switch looks rubbish and itll be sold at full price when the best version on pc is a lot cheaper. Switch games will be sold at full price even when next gen consoles are out with technology that seems like a few generations ahead of switches tech. Fan addicts will make excuses though instead of speaking up and not supporting rubbish. Look at the last of us 2 compared to anything on the switch.

SixEye2028d ago

I like Nintendo but everything they offer right now has been a disappointment and everything you said is how Nintendo been doing it for years, always with the crap hardware, overpriced games there online game services are so crap till this day they have done nothing, not one thing to improve it and now they charge you for it, Nintendo the way they run thing is BS and I really dnt understand why ppl support this and how Nintendo can get away with doing this for years.

PhoenixUp2028d ago

I wouldn’t call Switch last gen tech. It may not be as powerful as PS4 & XO but it’s still substantially more powerful than PS3 & 360.

Of course Switch games would be sold at full price. They are a business after all. The biggest issue is that Nintendo doesn’t believe that any of its titles warrant a budget price like most other publishers do. On top of that they don’t even do price drops on their games. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for example is currently being discounted to $45-$50 even though it’s already a 2 year old game. TLoZ: BotW is still $60 with no GOTY edition whereas Horizon: Zero Dawn Complete Edition comes with all the DLC and it’s $20 for a new copy.

Plus it goes beyond just the price of first party games and the third party titles that follow Nintendo’s example on their own platform, it’s various other things. The accessories such as the dock and controllers are expensive as hell, paltry internal storage outright requires you to get external storage and Nintendo doesn’t seem to be in the mood to release another SKU with more memory, you still have to buy an Ethernet adapter for superior wired connectivity, & the console itself doesn’t look like it’s going to drop the price of the standard model.

ocelot072028d ago

No these ports should not cost $60. Resident evil 5 got a PS4 port and xb1 port like 3 years ago and they only cost like $20 if I remember correctly. Same with Skyrim I think that released at like $40 on both PS4 and Xb1.

RosweeSon2028d ago

Have a word with Capcom then I’m pretty certain they set the prices for their own games.

Chexs19902028d ago

Capcom is only part of it though. There's a reason why people have coined the term Nintendo Taxes

RosweeSon2027d ago

Chexs1990 more fool them. Capcom set the prices like EA set their extortionate prices for a yearly churn game £60-80 id happily pay £40/60 for a Nintendo game that lasts years if not generations. Sure a fair few been ported from wii u sure Sony have done this and yeah they released them at a cheaper price. They also sold 80-90 million ps3s last Gen so sure not many people played but a lot still did compared to the wii u 13 million consoles sold 90% of gamers didn’t play those games. They are more than worth the price of entry compared to some but because they were released previously and you didn’t buy them now they should be £20/30 don’t think so. People quite often forget the selects range some of their finest games for a fraction of the price. People thinking switch games still cost £60 day1 really need to shop around... Pokemon shield pre order day one with steelbook £38!! But it’s cool buy one of the 4-5 editions of assassin creed each year for double the price and replaced within a year or 2 max
Mario kart 1 per gen
Smash bros 1 per gen.
There was nothing to stop Capcom launching these resi games the same price as they were on other platforms they just thought they’d chance their luck if you purchase at this price when it’s much cheaper on alternative platforms and within a month or 3 when they don’t sell will also be on switch then that’s on you.

Edgelordsupreme2028d ago

Those ports were $20 dollars a pop, the triple pack is $60. It all kinda adds up, Skyrim was also full price at launch on the PS4 and Xbox.

RosweeSon2027d ago

It’s all depends on who’s making and releasing the games at the end of the day. Whilst I fully understand Nintendo games are top price they are worth that I’m sorry it’s just a fact they don’t get rated 9-10/10 consistently by making yearly dribble games. My basis for paying for a game apart from do I like it is it good, will I get more hours than pounds spent on the game. £40 - 40 hours with a Nintendo game pretty much almost guaranteed there’s people still speeding running ocarina of time and super Mario world is still one of the best games ever hence it always sits pretty high on top 100 games ever lists. Not to mention Nintendo games might be expensive do they suddenly drop to being worth a £1 over night or after that years games been replaced like a fifa?! Nope so you can also sell them on for a good price as well.

PhoenixUp2028d ago

These Resident Evil ports cost $30 individually

This bundle is the same $60 cost that’s on every other platform

Elda2028d ago

RE 4,5 & 6 (triple pack) on Switch should be no more than $25.

PhoenixUp2028d ago

Why dafuq should that be the case when this triple pack is $60 on every other platform

Elda2027d ago

It should be $25 or less on every platform...how's that?!?!

PhoenixUp2027d ago

How would that happen when each game is individually $20?

Elda2027d ago (Edited 2027d ago )

As of now you can buy RE 4,5 & 6 on Amazon pre-owned on XBO & PS4 at starting prices of $11 & up for each copy, the new copies are starting at $17 a copy. On last gen consoles they're $5 a piece. Gamefly had them even cheaper for the PS4 & XBO but I don't know if they're still selling them at that price. Skyrim on the PS4 is $22 at Amazon,$25 on the XBO,at Gamestop they're $35 & $40 which is cheaper than $60 on the Switch.

PhoenixUp2027d ago

How is it fair to compare preowned prices to the price of a new game? Capcom doesn’t make money from the second hand market, so that wouldn’t interest them. It’d make more sense to compare the preowned price of these Switch ports to preowned prices on other platforms. Capcom themselves still sell each game for $20 on every digital store. It’s more accurate to compare the $30 Switch ports to that price instead.

I just checked Amazon and the price starts at $16 for a used copy. eBay has it for $6 but that’s just one person selling it at that price. Besides that second hand markets don’t dictate how publishers price their games.

It makes no business sense for Capcom to sell the entire package of the three games plus the DLC for $25 when they sell for $20 individually. They’re not going to let second hand markets influence those prices. If you as a consumer want to get the game cheaper either preowned or on discount you’re free to do so, but I don’t see Capcom dropping the price by 58%.

I'll tell you a secret: nintendo fans are twins with apple fans. They dont care the proce tag, they dont care how old the technolgy is or how many times they jave to buy the same game.

Edgelordsupreme2028d ago

The older the technolgy the better. Technolgy is like wine, it only gets better with age.

LucasRuinedChildhood2027d ago

What you just said is the opposite of reality.

RosweeSon2027d ago (Edited 2027d ago )

Yeah because Mario and Zelda are like yearly churned fifa and COD. The quality speaks for itself. https://uk.ign.com/lists/to...
6 out of the top 10 games are Nintendo. How many FIFA’s are on the list or forzas gears of wars halos call of duty’s. Yeah I’ll stick with Nintendo sure some games are guff majority are gaming gold. Nintendo proved for years in the handheld market its not all About sheer power it’s about what your doing with it. Aka Tetris. Amongst many others.

Platformgamer2027d ago

nintendo and apple are so similar, they're both despicable

TheColbertinator2028d ago

Wait for discounts and avoid that full price hassle. I've never played full price for a port this generation because you need to be smart with the publishers.

RosweeSon2027d ago

Even day1 if you shop around you can get them cheap enough barely paid £35 for Mario kart deluxe day1 that and it’s one of the best Mario kart ever. Really great fun game.
