The Indie Game Website writes: "Blacksad: Under the Skin is an ambitious attempt to adapt a nearly two-decades-old comic into an interactive experience. Spanish developer Pendulo Studios decided to craft a story independent from the graphic novel’s five published volumes while hewing close to established characters, tone, and themes. The story is often dark, punctuated by acts of violence and betrayal. But spots of biting, sarcastic humor keep it from running too dour."
VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "When considering what Blacksad: Under the Skin accomplishes – mechanically and narratively – it's a shame its initial 2019 release was so rough. While still not polished to a purr-fect sheen, enough work has been done to lucidly evaluate the game proper: design, narrative, and so on. Sure, TellTale's trappings will be immediately felt – a couple of which are inconsistently implemented, but certain tweaks naturally map onto this world and give it a special attitude. Better yet, it's a sound foundation on which to support a well-acted & enthralling noir yarn that's worth unspooling."
TSA writes: Blacksad is a surprisingly charming interactive tale. Blacksad is an intriguing character, but open enough that you can shape him. While other characters don't stand out as much, the ensemble brings the story to life
