Great to hear.

Can’t believe Days Gone had a bigger launch than Death Stranding though. That game did very good.

GaboonViper1626d ago

Yes Days Gone was a very big hit, look forward to seeing what they do with PS5, oh look Krib is in another PS article trying to spin things.

chiefJohn1171625d ago

Days gone look better than Death stranding in every way should be no surprise

Felix_Argyle_Catbro1626d ago

Second biggest PS4 EXCLUSIVE launch*

DiRtY1626d ago

Don’t get the downvotes. You are right, to quote the article:

„It's the second biggest exclusive and the second biggest new IP released this year, behind another PS4 exclusive -- Days Gone, which was released in April. Compared to that, Hideo Kojima's new title sold 36% fewer units at launch.“

DiRtY1626d ago (Edited 1626d ago )

Is -36% from Days Gone a success?

This game had quite a marketing budget behind it and Days Gone did not take the world by storm either.

Muzikguy1626d ago

Dang suggestive headlines. Makes it sound like it's including all games, not just exclusives...

SolidGamerX1626d ago

I've been assured by certain individuals this is not an exclusive.

CoNn3rB1626d ago

It's a timed exclusive for now, a PC version is planned to hit summer next year

Sevir1625d ago

It's exclusive to PlayStation on Consoles, and this was known when it was first announced . This isn't any different than Street Fighter 5. A game in which Sony funded the PS4 development of even tho the PC version was also coming.

Case in point, you won't be playing Death Stranding on any other console but a Sony Console.

CaptainHenry9161625d ago (Edited 1625d ago )

*Only on one console though*

AnnaDea1625d ago

It says clearly "Hideo Kojima's game debuts at No.2 behind Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.".

How is that about exclusives?

Well there you have it - Death Stranding is a success. Can we stop now with the snuff-piece articles about Death Stranding. On side note, it speaks volumes that Days Gone beat Death Stranding as the biggest new IP released this year. The haters tried to bury that game as well, but they again failed miserably. Playstation gamers ftw!

I'm a Playstation gamer; I've been extremely critical of the game, and am currently playing through it. Thank you for supporting the criticism of Death Stranding <3

-Foxtrot1626d ago

I don't think most of the Death Stranding articles are attacking it for the sake of it or because it's a console exclusive to the PS. The game has faults, a lot and while there's good to be found the bad stands out more because it's coming from Kojima who's made some fantastic, better games in the past. It's like when Ethan and Joel Coen remade The Ladykillers, out of all of there films most say this is the weakest and it stood out more because they've made some fantastic films over the years, in the end it wasn't terrible but when it released it was frowned upon more by people because the respect they had gained over the years people just expected better.

Days Gone however...I agree, that was and still is completely ripped apart by people, it's not a bad game by any means.

You could say Death Stranding and Days Gone represent two sides of a coin, where one is criticised fairly and the other didn't really deserve it.

P_Bomb1626d ago

Is it weird I find myself thinking about Days Gone while playing Death Stranding lol? Considering a NG+ Survival II, adding a couple more golds to my plat. The more I play, the more I’m leaning towards inverting their metas.

Sevir1625d ago

There's bad? To be quite honest, I just think the bad is people's expectations of what this was going to be. Most everyone wanted this to be an action heavy game and instead, they got a game which subverted their expectations on every level.

The mechanics work as they should, the game plays the way it's designed. It isn't bad. It's different from your bombastic high octane adventure. Which is the point. This is what Kojima wanted to make and this was the conversation he wanted to open up.

You're not out there killing fodder as a means to punctuated story beats, you're left to explore the world and come to grips with the mechanic of movement at your own pace, it's intentional, it isn't glitchy, it isn't unplayable. There's plenty of good, far out weighing the intentionally slow opening which you could fault the game for, but even that is heavy with some very interesting narrative threads which propel you to continue. If you think the game is bad, then it really is in this case just a display of what you want to play against the game that was given. In the very same way where people can't seem to get into souls/borne games because of their steep learning curves and game mechanics, they aren't bad games they simply are different and those who can put their expectations aside and play the game as it should be then they'll understand what it's about and be able to enjoy it as intended.

DaDrunkenJester1626d ago

Days Gone at least looks fun in a traditional gaming sense. Death Stranding sold because of its creator.

1626d ago
notachance1626d ago

while I myself won't be playing this because I'm mostly an action game fan, it's hard to deny the hard work that's been put into this game.
I've seen actual 4k hdr gameplay and it's one of, if not the most amazing visual on the PS4, and it's crafted full of details, not to mention the great cutscene's cinematography (obviously since it's full of famous names).

I hope people who are interested in this kind of game properly support this title just so we can show to developers and publishers that people are still interested in a game that dares to explore new type of gameplay and not just a lazy annual cash grab.

36% lower sales than Days Gone
Charted #2 just like Gears 5 and that game also sold less than Gears 4 moslty because it was on Game Pass but still charted #2.

I think any new game can chart with ease on this charts so I dont think it can be claim a success until sales are shown.

MasterCornholio1626d ago

Placement on the charts could mean anything it's the real numbers that I'm interested in. Knowing Sony if it's a pretty big success im pretty sure they will announce the numbers so they can say they they supported a really successful game.

StarLink1626d ago (Edited 1626d ago )

Days Gone sales havent been shown since the game release and that game is a success, well thats what people say. I mean they could be right since it did well in ttlhe charts for various weeks.

stuna11626d ago

I think it's self explainatory by the the statement that's made about it being the second best PS4 exclusive launch this year. Going by that distinction alone pretty much is stating it had a pretty good launch.

Also going by Microsofts non-disclosure of any sales figures of absolutely nothing, it's definitely not someone who you can make a justifiable comparison with!

StarLink1626d ago

Only 2 big PS4 exclusives have been release this year so far (Days Gone and Death Stranding) if Im not mistaken. So being the 2nd biggest without more info (sales) doesnt really say much.

P_Bomb1626d ago

@Star
MLB19 The Show sold well and reviewed well as well. Judgment was my go-to.

Thundercat771626d ago (Edited 1626d ago )

Congratulations to Kojima productions. Thats quite an achievement with a new IP, exclusive to 1 platform and with a new genre.

It looks like the more hate PlayStation exclusive/time exclusive games get, the better they perform and break records.

Days Gone and Death Stranding were hated the most and look, they have the biggest PS4 launch this year.

Amazing!

Kribwalker1626d ago

they are the only 2 big playstation exclusives out this year, so it would be disappointing if it wasn’t the first or second best ps exclusive of the year

SolidGamerX1626d ago (Edited 1626d ago )

And both have done very well despite repeated attempts to smear and belittle both games by certain individuals who's campaigns failed miserably, I'm sure that's very disappointing for them.

TK-661626d ago (Edited 1626d ago )

@SolidGamerX

You have to consider this at some point. How is it so easy to "smear" a PlayStation exclusive on a site where the majority of the userbase leans heavily towards favouring Sony?

To be frank, the critics of games like Days Gone and Death Stranding are able to give drastically more in depth analysis of the games, especially so, when compared to those who love it to the point of refusing to acknowledge any major shortcomings. The reality is this: Death Stranding and Days Gone fans have one thing in common; both had expectations about how the game would be critically received, and the actual reception in no way matched what they anticipated. So rather than realise they might've been too optimistic, they double down and throw a shit fit.

This has happened twice in one year; If you've not learnt your lesson yet, then you never will.

1625d ago
leoms1625d ago

Awww it's okay Krib. You will have another chance to hate on a Sony exclusive. Well there are plenty of exclusives coming that you can look forward to hate.

TK-661625d ago (Edited 1625d ago )

@gamingunited

"So your saying"

*proceeds to not in any way represent what I've said accurately*

If you consider making specific criticisms as "trolling" you're dense. I've not recieved any detailed defense of Death Stranding on this site once since release. Not one person has been able to give anything more than "we can't like everything", or "You're criticising it like it's a normal game".

And would you look at that. Your comment does exactly what I said. You try to characterize what I said rather than address it directly. You can't actually discuss any of the games content with a critical eye. Death Stranding is a masterpiece and anyone who says otherwise is trolling. Continue throwing that shit fit, babe.

Realms1625d ago (Edited 1625d ago )

@TK-66

Funny how this only seems to happen with Sony exclusives, Souls games aren't for everyone yet nobody goes out of their way to shit on them. Days Gone is a decent new Ip, and Kojima games are always kind of weird so who's expectations are we talking about? Because true fans don't care about the critics and knew exactly what kind of games they were getting vs all these people crying about how they didn't get the games they wanted which seems to be where a lot of the criticism is coming from for both games.

I guess it must piss some people off that despite both games getting heavily criticized and even blasted by some they are doing ok sales wise.

TK-661624d ago (Edited 1624d ago )

@Realms

"Funny how this only seems to happen with Sony exclusives"

Thisnis your first mistake, as Desth Stranding is not exclusive. So you've started with a false premise by claiming this only happens to Sony exclusives. What's amazingnisnhow in one breath DS fans will claim the game is extremely well received and talk about all the 10s, and in the next say it's a victim of hate and is being unfairly criticised.

Interesting how I agree with a lot of the sentiments in the positive reviews, but the cult thinks the less positive ones are completely wrong? Many of DS's most positive reviews say that the game can be "boring", or "isn't fun". Notice how there was no backlash against these reviews? It's because your typical gamer, like yourself, only cares about the review score, and couldn't care less about what was written.

"Days Gone is a decent new Ip, and Kojima games are always kind of weird so who's expectations are we talking about?"

We're talking about the opinion expressed in comment sections across numerous sites that say they're looking forward to these games. I remember lots of people anticipating 8s and 9s for DG, and 9s and 10s for Death Standing. Especially so in the case of Death Stranding, we a high volume of people anticipating this to be a masterpiece; reality turned out differently.

"Because true fans don't care about the critics and knew exactly what kind of games they were getting vs all these people crying about how they didn't get the games they wanted"

Babe, if you're going to make such a basic fallacy in your defence of Death Stranding how is anyone supposed to take you seriously? No-true-Scotsman; look it up, and educate yourself on why what you just said was stupid.

"I guess it must piss some people off that despite both games getting heavily criticized and even blasted by some they are doing ok sales wise."

Lol, dude. Look at you trying to chip in to the damage control for Death Stranding. You're desperate to virtue signal you're a fan. Notice what I said in my previous comment? Death Strandings most dogmatic fans cant actually articulate in detail why Death Stranding is a good game, without having their reasoning fall apart under scrutiny. You did the exact same as everyone else and, made zero positive arguments for why it's a good game.

If you can't explain why something is good; you don't know why it's good.

Probably the best comment of the day. I didn't know this site hated on Days gone. Why did they hate on Days Gone?

Just because it was a big PlayStation exclusive.

Why MW 2019 is still the best looking Call of Duty to date

MW 2019 is five years old at this point and on previous gen hardware, but it is still the best looking Call of Duty game to date.

MW was an excellent videogame. They messed up Spec Ops big time, but aside from this it was a huge step in the right direction initially. Most notably, at launch it seemed to come from a very cohesive creative vision that was felt across gameplay, to story to art style/visual direction. It was also very notably written by prominent ex-Naughty Dog guys that quit almost immediately before release.

That COMPLETELY dissolved through post-launch content and the full pivot to a "cross-mode" narrative that completely obliterated the cohesion in overall story direction. Warzone then "became" the new face of Call of Duty and the franchise completely removed itself from anything remotely creatively "good". It is a pure money machine, so I kinda get why they're doing it....but I personally completely lost interest.

I would love to see Infinity Ward move off CoD and get to make their own product with full control. They clearly have some massive talent in their ranks but it's perverted by Activision's corporate interests.
