I wonder what the IGN aggregate review score is for this game. Its seems like the IGN-US score is the outlier among their other regional sites... I wonder why?

Lon3wolf2001d ago

Different opinions from different people, who would of thought it?

Wasabi2001d ago (Edited 2001d ago )

***"I wonder what the IGN aggregate review score is for this game"***

I wonder how many regional variations of an IGN review users are going to post to this website trying to prove a point?

As a huge Kojima fan and someone that wants DS to do well, it appears to me that the multitude of community approved submissions of regional IGN variations are in direct response to Tristan Ogilvie's 6.8 review score for the IGN mainsite.

We haven't seen anything like this level of damage control since the much anticipated Days Gone received average reviews earlier this year.

I'll be interested to read the Group B embargoed reviews of DS that will be released in the next few days. It won't change my mind as I'll still be playing DS tomorrow and forming my own opinion of the game - but I am expecting the metascore average for the game to drop by a few points.

UltraNova2001d ago

What? Are you serious? So people cant post, mention or discuss reviews coming from the same Global publication (IGN) and question the blatantly obvious and huge disparity between them because "damage conttol" ? Seriously?

I'd argue, people discussing this is showing a healthy and critical forum environment If anything else.

Hell, I don't see you complain about the endless articles and comments about how Death Stranding is not a good game and Kojima is a fake.

Double standards much?

SolidGamerX2001d ago

"We haven't seen anything like this level of damage control since the much anticipated Days Gone received average reviews earlier this year."

Haven't seen this level of pathetic attempt at a smear campaign since Days Gone either. The game sits at an 83 on metacritic that's only one point lower then Gears 5 which was herald as a success. It has 64 positive reviews, 12 mixed and only 2 negative scores that are so obvious and blatant as to their intention. Why would anyone need to damage control a game that's being reviewed overwhelmingly positive? The answer is they don't the problem is there's a vocal minority of haters that are getting more attention and focus then anyone saying anything positive about the game which is par for the course when it comes to anything Playstation related.

xX-oldboy-Xx2001d ago

SolidGamerX - They're all trying sooo hard it's embarrassing haha, Days Gone sold massive numbers and was well received by gamers.

I expect the same with Death Stranding.

If it was Day 1 Gamepass Mega hit - they'd be all over it.

It's truely pathetic and a new low.

Wasabi2001d ago (Edited 2001d ago )

@UltraNova

***"What? Are you serious? So people cant post, mention or discuss reviews coming from the same Global publication"***

Calm down, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings.

***"I'd argue, people discussing this is showing a healthy and critical forum environment"***

Your response proves that you cannot handle a healthy critical forum environment, If this is how you react to opposing views in the real world, then life is going to be difficult for you.

***"Hell, I don't see you complain about the endless articles and comments about how Death Stranding is not a good game and Kojima is a fake"***

You won't see me agreeing with those articles either.

If the game has 64 positive and only 2 negative reviews as you so rightly point out, then where is the smear campaign that you mention in your post?

Stanjara2001d ago

Yeah, seems that the only problematic review is IGN us 6.8
I newer known that there are multiple IGN devisions out there.

UltraNova2001d ago (Edited 2001d ago )

Fragnum,

So you didn't reply at all, just focused on me calling you out not the point I was actually making. Nice job proving my point.

Yeah you did hurt my feelings(kinda...well not really)...for actually expecting a serious response from you. Don't bother though.

rainslacker2001d ago

If there is damage control, one has to ask why there is damage. If the reviews are overwhelmingly positive, why are there so many people trying to damage the game to begin with?

If there weren't people trying to bring the game down constantly, and with very thin reasons that go against the reviews themselves, then you wouldn't see so many people calling out the people trying to damage it. instead, they'd be sharing their enthusiasm for the game.

Wasabi2000d ago (Edited 2000d ago )

@rainslacker

***"If there is damage control, one has to ask why there is damage"***

As stated in my original post, the "perceived" damage is an outlier review by Tristan Ogilvie for IGN US.

For some reason, most likely personal insecurity, users are now posting every regional variation of IGN's Death Stranding review in an attempt to show that Tristan's opinion should be discounted as it the outlier score.

We never see this many reviews from regional variations of the same website.

It's clearly an attempt to discredit IGN US's review, but it's not necessary. Regardless of the odd outlier score, Death Stranding has reviewed well across the board.

I've opted to make up my own mind, I'm played about 9 hours currently, and so far I'm very much enjoying it.

As a fan of Kojima's work, it is very much what I expected.

Never seen so many IGN reviews for one game on this site before.

Still waiting for IGN Zimbabwe's review.

coolbeans2000d ago

IGN Wakanda's review to follow.

zackeroniii2001d ago

it's called damage control which is actually pretty pathetic.

IGN-US gave the game a 6.8 and because of that all of a sudden IGN reviews from across the world are going to be published to try and discredit the US review.

the agenda is quite funny actually.

spicelicka2001d ago

It's so stupid. I swear at this point I'm convinced IGN has some financial connection to publishers with their review, or they use some metrics to push their reviews to the front page of every gaming news site. Every time there's an IGN review it's at the headlines immediately, and now I've seen an IGN review from every damn country in the world. Why do they get so much credibility, it's not like their reviews are special.

IGN must have been playing a different game then Giantbum and Star News was playing.

UltraNova2001d ago (Edited 2001d ago )

IGN [USA] must have been playing a different game then...ehem all other IGN's were playing...

SolidGamerX2001d ago

Yeah well IGN USA has always been garbage anyway. Now we know they can't handle a deep meaningful thinking mans game as well. They gave Modern Warfare an 8.2 so its all a bunch of mindless pew pew pew pound that Mountain Dew twitchy dude bros over there, D-Strand was just too cerebral and complex for their brains to deal with.

UltraNova2001d ago

I dont know what's going on down at IGN US but what is clear to me is that the person who reviewed DS was not someone with a truly journalistic impartiality but someone with dead set tastes who cant let them go.

Kribwalker2001d ago

I know right. Same thing happened with crackdown 3. Ign USA gave it a 5/10 while IGN Netherlands gave it a 7.4. They must get different versions of games over there then IGN USA gets, right?

Or it’s that people have different opinions, that could very well be it

Ristul2001d ago

Xbox kids have declared this game a dud based on a few low scores, so should we now declare it a masterpiece? The game has far more perfect scores then low scores, so guess what.

Death Stranding is a MASTERPIECE! 😁

UltraNova2001d ago

Krib,

Only you could try and equate a game like Death S to a game like Crackdown when one was delivered in time and was exactly what was promised to be and the other...well none of the above, just to bring your dear platform into the discussion.

darthv722001d ago (Edited 2001d ago )

Nova, you know damn well that wasnt kribs intention. He was pointing out that people who criticise IGN NA and swear they must be wrong because of a low score where as other IGN regions show a better score.

Get off your high horse for a moment and realize it isnt about the you or him. So the F what that a site didnt care for a game that you might like. Does it really matter all that much to your desire to play it?

darthv722001d ago

If you (and others) want to question the NA low score then you have to call into question ALL of their low scores when compared to other IGN regions. Dont get picky here and say they got this one wrong but others right. You either believe there is an issue with them overall or you have to accept what they say as their own independent pov.

Kribwalker2001d ago

@darthv

exactly 😉

everyone keeps saying IGN north america has a biased for pew pew and explosion games, and mountain dew etc, and that’s why they gave it a lower score then these smaller off shoots of ign, when really, the reviewer in north america just truly didn’t like the game.

Crackdown 3 was just an obvious example as it checks off multiple parts of an argument against peoples claims.
1)It’s pew pew and explosions
2) its bro attitude
3) it’s exclusive to another platform (ign america bias towards xbox claims on their review for death stranding) that scored worse on IGn NA vs IGN Netherlands

IgN NA just didn’t like death stranding. No conspiracies about that

rainslacker2001d ago

Turn around is fair play. When the next xbox exclusive comes out, and Sony fans go on about how a few negative reviews outweigh the positive, it'll be the Sony fans who are the hypocrites, because apparently we couldn't accept that a few low reviews didn't mean much in the face of a bunch of positive ones.

It won't matter after midnight, or tomorrow. All of us that want to can play the game, while the Xbox fans can continue to say how the game is bad because they don't have a PS4.

UltraNova2000d ago

Darth and Krib

No no no, I see right through both of you ;-)

***"its all a bunch of mindless pew pew pew pound that Mountain Dew twitchy dude bros over there"***

In light of your comment, It's quite ironic that Death Stranding features multiple ingame product placements for Monster Energy drink.

Kribwalker2001d ago

that’s exactly what i was thinking reading that comment lol

SolidGamerX2001d ago

Mountain Dew and Monster are two different things, try harder.

ps3rider2001d ago

Honestly after reading IGN review in details, you will come to know that the reviewer has just finished Zelda and Death Stranding is not his or her cup of tea

Daniel21832001d ago

I want to like this game but it looks so boring .... I’ll try it out but I’m guessing it will be getting traded in next week .

Content writers have to be hyperbolic.

On n4g, I frequently get so annoyed by comments that I take the time to login so I can downvote someone. Today is such a day. What a pointless comment…

Got the Director's Cut platinum a couple of hours ago.
Ready for DS2 now.

Storm2330d ago

I have been slowly working my way though this game for months. I keep playing other games in between but I want to finish it before DS2.

Knushwood Butt30d ago

I ended up with over 140 hours on it, but I wasn't exactly rushing. Ended up seeing to it that all roads were rebuilt too.
There are still a few Half Life missions left that I think I'll do.

lukasmain30d ago

Man I love this game. Platinumed it and played through it a 2nd time just for fun. I'm day 1 with bells on for the sequel

Video Games Proud To Not Be For Everyone

Plenty of games have made a name for themselves as being proud of the fact they’re not to everyone’s taste over the years.

If you make something for everyone, you please no one.

mkis00788d ago

I mean I can do without nintendo games if given the choice. They are not nearly as mature rated as the average.

Yui_Suzumiya87d ago (Edited 87d ago )

Yeah but I use my Switch OLED primarily for anime booba style games (visual novels and JRPG's) and ultra violent FPS's. Far from kid friendly, lol

JohnBLZ87d ago

The problem with that line of though is that games have never been as much "for everyone" as in 2025.
The only thing that's not for everyone in gaming lately is the gatekeeping. Devs will try to appeal to as many people as they can, but if you dare have your own tastes and prefer something a bit more obscure, then you have "L takes" because at the moment, popular opinion equals right opinion.
So devs should simply own the fact they water down their games and go Hollywood to please everybody. Then indies will go back to being trendsetters that are different from AAAs, instead of being roguelike and gacha copycats.

88d ago
JohnBLZ87d ago

Okay, but "games I'm not meant to love" means I won't play them.
Games are for fun. They're their own art, it's a disservice to reduce them to interactive stories. You can focus on making your audience entertained on a positive way and still stand out.

jznrpg87d ago

No game is for everyone. Some games are more mainstream or casual friendly but there is always someone who won’t like it. Same with anything else
