I'm afraid so, MGS is my fave series but with Kojima gone and Konami the way they are the series is dead😔, at least we got MGS4 which was a fitting end to such a incredible series.

It was very fitting. That's where I stopped. I'm surprised Konami hasn't ported the game to piss Kojima and the team off. Wouldn't put it past them.

But is Metal Gear dead? Yup. When the creator and team aren't making it, chances are, you're not going to successfully resurrect it. They can reboot it but then it's no longer said game anymore.

Knowing them, it'll be a casino game where you're sneaking around collecting casino chips. If you get caught, it's game over. Put some more money in.

It should have been done at 4. Kojima didnt want to proceed past 3. It was obvious he was stretched for ideas on the story for 5, while 4 was basically just closure for the rest of the series

they could at the very least release a remaster or remake of the series.

I'm personally done with Konami myself, and it's hard to imagine a proper MGS game without Kojima at the helm. I'm sure there is someone out there capable of carrying on his legacy, but he knew what he wanted from the series, so anything after that would be more like fan fiction. That wouldn't make it bad per say, but it'd be hard to take it as cannon.

A remaster would be alright I suppose. I was looking at it more from the viewpoint of new entries in the main series....disregarding things like Survive, which was a nonsensical use of the franchise, albeit not part of the solid moniker.

it's been remade already. There are more pressing games that need remake. Plus MGS isn't relevant to Konami anymore so a remaster is plain useless and would give false hope for a franchise that is practically dead.

I waited 5 years for that game just to be disappointed beyond comprehension. Never saw a mgs game with so little meat on the bone when it came to story and memorable bosses.

Konami will raise it from the dead eventually. Will it be good? Probably not but you never know.

It definitely won't be what it was! We know that much. You can't fake the style of someone as odd as Kojima. The little details won't be there.

But that doesn't mean it'll suck. We'll see.

The only way I can see a AAA MGS game is if Konami license it out to another developer like Sony for example or even contract a developer to remake MGS 3 snake eater, imagine that game with better graphics more open world and getting to fight The End again.

Probably as things stand now, but Konami may look at how successful Capcom has been recently by refocusing on quality, and decide to try the same strategy. Capcom was never as far gone as Konami, so it's less likely, but who knows. If that doesn't happen, hopefully they'll realize that their IP are more valuable as one time sales than for milking purposes (failure of Metal Gear Survive should help with that, and using the MGS license on a Pachinko machine isn't going to add much value if there hasn't been a solid release in the series for awhile). Obviously the dream is for them to sell MGS to Sony, but I'd also like to see someone else get the Silent Hill license. Heck, they could probably even just license the IP and hang on to ownership...as in sell the rights to Sony/2K/Capcom/whomever to make the next 3 Silent Hill games, handling everything, while Konami takes a flat fee and a cut of profits.

He doesn't want to make MGS games anymore. Its literally the main reason why he left Konami. Why should Sony buy the IP and force a man to continue to make MGS games, when he doesn't want to anymore? The guy is tapped out of ideas, it's been very obvious with everything released after MGS 3.

What more was there for the franchise to do anyway? The main narrative ended in 2008 but then it was kept alive with the further chronicles of Big Boss. Now that his story has fully been told there’s not much room left except for further adventures of Raiden which would’ve been admittedly awesome

When you work for a company, they usually own whatever the IP is, in fact when it concerns some companies, they can own the ideas that you have in your head while being employed for them, even if you don't tell anyone about it.

However, Kojima was not the original director for Metal Gear. He took over the series when a different director couldn't make the game work. But wikipedia doesn't mention this person's name.
