Death Stranding is overly self-indulgent, featuring monotonous and frustrating gameplay.

How can people take review scores like this seriously? If the game is super glitchy and buggy, its understandable, but if it's playable, logically that's at least worth 5/10.

Sophisticated_Chap2019d ago

This is one of the few low scores that Metacritic has included in the average score. With all of the poor reviews showing up on N4G, it's clear that metacritic is cherry picking the more positive reviews. If this game didn't have kojima's name on it, none of the high scores on metacritic would exist.

IRetrouk2019d ago

So metacritic work for sony now? Or kojima? Please...

GTgamer2019d ago

Cherry picking these nuts barely see bad reviews I see wayyyyyyyy more positive ones.

Krangs_Uncle2019d ago

Funny when MS reviews are actually bloated to high heaven by MS sites... You my friend are deluded.

It's the same meta as MS's pride and joy Gears.

Not bad a new IP with a divisive premise.

How do you like them apples?

I guess you don't understand how Metacritic works? It doesn't choose what reviews it shows - if your site is approved to be on the system (reviewing a certain amount of games and having a certain number of followers/visitors), then every review you do will automatically be assigned to the relevant game and the review score is counted towards the total.

There's no cherry-picking or manually adding reviews.

rainslacker2019d ago (Edited 2019d ago )

It's up to websites to decide if they're included in Meta. Meta isn't cherry picking anything, and likely, not all scores have been submitted to Meta yet. Some of the low scores I've seen aren't ever represented on meta for any game.

That's on Metacritic and the websites, and has nothing to do with meta trying to cherry pick anything. never have they not put up or removed a score that was posted by one of the sites they track.

There aren't that many poor reviews showing up on N4G. In fact, I see a higher percentage of the poorer scores showing up on N4G, as opposed to a lower percentage of the higher scores showing up.

Or are you just going to assume that all those higher or average scores are not valid because they don't line up with what you want them to be? Did you try that with Days Gone, and ignore the more prolific average or good scores that existed?

Also, isn't this review site commonly giving low scores to high profile games? I recognize their name, and the only reason i'd do that is if they are a big site, or if they are controversial with their review scores. They aren't a big site, so that only leaves one other option.

rainslacker2019d ago

No, it's not. Meta isn't cherry picking anything. There is no conspiracy, and being the first day of reviews, not all reviews are going to be posted there yet.

"bad scores on this one site is proof of metacritic cherry picking"
logic

That's not proof, it's your opinion
which means you are lying, or you are a writer for a living who doesn't know what "prove" means
which is it?

anast27d ago

Content writers have to be hyperbolic.

Bwremjoe27d ago

On n4g, I frequently get so annoyed by comments that I take the time to login so I can downvote someone. Today is such a day. What a pointless comment…

jambola27d ago

that's pretty pathetic
Can't believe you're talking about pointless, and bragging about downvoting someone lmao

DMgHalt26d ago

I logged in just to downvote as well, and even took the time to comment to make them aware of the fact lmao

Got the Director's Cut platinum a couple of hours ago.
Ready for DS2 now.

Storm2342d ago

I have been slowly working my way though this game for months. I keep playing other games in between but I want to finish it before DS2.

Knushwood Butt42d ago

I ended up with over 140 hours on it, but I wasn't exactly rushing. Ended up seeing to it that all roads were rebuilt too.
There are still a few Half Life missions left that I think I'll do.

lukasmain42d ago

Man I love this game. Platinumed it and played through it a 2nd time just for fun. I'm day 1 with bells on for the sequel

anast42d ago (Edited 42d ago )

In still drop in this world from time to time. I just played it yesterday.

Video Games Proud To Not Be For Everyone

Plenty of games have made a name for themselves as being proud of the fact they’re not to everyone’s taste over the years.

If you make something for everyone, you please no one.

mkis007100d ago

I mean I can do without nintendo games if given the choice. They are not nearly as mature rated as the average.

Yui_Suzumiya100d ago (Edited 100d ago )

Yeah but I use my Switch OLED primarily for anime booba style games (visual novels and JRPG's) and ultra violent FPS's. Far from kid friendly, lol

JohnBLZ99d ago

The problem with that line of though is that games have never been as much "for everyone" as in 2025.
The only thing that's not for everyone in gaming lately is the gatekeeping. Devs will try to appeal to as many people as they can, but if you dare have your own tastes and prefer something a bit more obscure, then you have "L takes" because at the moment, popular opinion equals right opinion.
So devs should simply own the fact they water down their games and go Hollywood to please everybody. Then indies will go back to being trendsetters that are different from AAAs, instead of being roguelike and gacha copycats.

Okay, but "games I'm not meant to love" means I won't play them.
Games are for fun. They're their own art, it's a disservice to reduce them to interactive stories. You can focus on making your audience entertained on a positive way and still stand out.

jznrpg99d ago

No game is for everyone. Some games are more mainstream or casual friendly but there is always someone who won’t like it. Same with anything else
