Most of Gust’s Atelier games feel alike. A young woman decides she wants to become an alchemist and goes about honing her skills, proving herself and solving some major problem along the way. Every entry seems to have a priority, be it the exploration elements, item creation, relationships or story, but none of the installments released since Atelier Rorona feel like a step forward. Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout is a great big jump in almost every way.
Let's begin today's tale with something of an unorthodox comparison. You see, I recently watched a fantastic hentai series (stay with me, I promise it's relevant), inspired by the Atelier game series. It's called Rune's Pharmacy if you're interested. As I was watching, I couldn't help but find more relatability and likeability with protagonist Rune than I ever have with Atelier's protagonists.
The Japanese animation studio Liden Films (Senyu, Goblin Slayer) will be taking on the responsibility of adapting the 2019 video game entry into an anime. So far, some key art has been shared along with a teaser trailer. You can see the main cast of characters and a release date confirming it will drop at some point in 2023.
Combined shipments for Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout and Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy have surpassed 1.6 million units, publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Gust announced.
Anxious to try this, never played an Atelier game before. Kinda wish it had an English dub though (heresy, I know).
This game is great but this reviewer misunderstands everything that makes the game great.
This might be the game to get me back into the franchise. I've been eyeing a few titles but never pulled the trigger. Haven't played one of these since the PS2 days. I believe it was called Atelier Iris.
