Fallout's Worst Feature Rears its Ugly Head in The Outer Worlds

Twinfinite "The fetch-questing, irritating errand-going quest loop that Bethesda games have long been mocked and memed over for years has, unfortunately, made an unwelcome return for The Outer Worlds. For all Obsidian's brilliance, its latest game inherits both the best and worst of Fallout games."

Very, I'm enjoying it very much.

antz11042068d ago

Huh. I thought they'd bring up weight ratio

rainslacker2068d ago

Especially since what they're complaining about is hardly exclusive to fallout

CYALTR2067d ago

It's Twinfinite, that's all they do!

I’m loving The Outer Worlds, personally, but this is an interesting read with some good points.

TheScotsman2068d ago

Good read but title is click bait for sure

ArchangelMike2068d ago

Yeah, a good read bit definitely clickbait. Fallout's worst feature is probably the bugs.

A2X_2068d ago

@ArchangelMike Bugs are a feature nowadays?

Daeloki2067d ago

@A2X_ if you ask Bethesda, yes

ReadyPlayer222068d ago

I can see some of these points, but overall I am very much enjoying the game. The humor and versatility in the quests is a nice plus

You can definitely feel the jankiness of fallout, I've gotten stuck in weird places numerous times, but it's not bad. I'm liking it so far. The colors and art are beautiful. The characters are funny and engaging. The world is great, basically a scifi satire of the soviet union, there are so many parallels to the Gulag Archipelago. Whether this is intentional or not, I don't know, but it's good thing IMO.

Palitera2068d ago (Edited 2068d ago )

Really? Do you REALLY think The Outer Worlds is a communism satire? ROFL
Beware the commie ghosts, day and night. Bwahahaha

"The characters are funny and engaging"

LOL more like they are super gay and look like they all have down syndrome

King_Noctis2068d ago (Edited 2068d ago )

Man, The Outer Worlds is so so good. Played for a couple of hours and couldn’t tear myself away as I was so engrossed with the game’s story and atmosphere.

The Outer World 2, with MS’s money, will be so doped.

sprinterboy2068d ago

You played for a couple of hours? Or you couldn't tear yourself away lol.

King_Noctis2068d ago

If I could tear myself from it then I would have played just for a few minutes and then stop.

ITPython2068d ago

Unfortunately, this will likely be Obsidian's last good game if we are to look historically at studios acquired by MS. If Rare had been aligned with Sony, they could have easily been in the same league as Naughty Dog today (they basically already were the ND equivalent today, but in the SNES/N64 era). But nope, they got involved with MS and absolutely deteriorated into nothing.

Outer Worlds 2 is almost guaranteed to be an XB2 exclusive with the next-gen systems in 2020, but because of Microsoft's involvement, the odds are stacked against them quite a bit. Obsidian would have been wise to hitch their wagon to a different star, but what is done is done. And with the successful release of Outer Worlds, this is likely the biggest "peak" the studio will ever see.

Hope I am wrong though, as the world really does need more of these kinds of RPG games. As Bethesda sure isn't going to do them anymore (at least successfully).

ChristopherJack2068d ago

It'll likely be on PC too which is all I care about for now, though with next gen looming, there's every chance that my laptop won't keep up so I guess I'll wait and see.

Nosferatu_dude2067d ago

Wow, you are pessimistic...

good_sk8er2067d ago

Oh Rare, why did you let them do this to you :(

The Outer Worlds Could Fill a Unique Niche By Going the Opposite Direction as Avowed

The Outer Worlds could distinguish itself from other Obsidian IPs by going in the opposite direction as Avowed and the Pillars of Eternity series.

Or it could just be the same as outer worlds 1. No changes just direct sequel.

Both are going to underperform.
