Fallout 76 gets a £12-a-month subscription called Fallout 1st

Fallout 76 now has a subscription, Bethesda has announced. This premium membership is called Fallout 1st, and it costs £11.99 per month, or you can get a 12-month subscription for £100.

This is kind of beyond EA. EA tends to be crappy from the start of release, and maintains it, or tries in some way to make it better. Bethesda skipped the part of making it better to charge people for a season pass which doesn't really offer up that much.

I mean, they create a limit on storage, then sell you a way to make it bigger. That's just wrong on many levels, and something that if other publishers decide to go that route, will become routine on many games from these crap companies. Could you imagine all games having a limited inventory like Borderlands, but instead of getting storage upgrades through game, you had to shell out another $10-20. In the case of this sub, you probably have to keep subscribing or lose the added storage. Just crap all around.

What surprises me more is that the game must still have a lot of players for them to think that they can get enough people to make this worthwhile. Considering all the hate it got at the start, I'd think the game would be dead by now.

There is still a active player base. I play from time to time. If I had to guess though Bethesda found out that no matter what they do to 76 the damage is done and they aren’t going to receive a ton more sales on the game. Now they need cash to justify resources to keep the game running, patches, updates, etc. I’m all for devs trying to correct their mistakes but this is just one of those games that should probably have just died, learn from it, and make a good fallout 5.

There are games out there which struggled at the start, but ended up working out in the long term. But the ones that came around did so because the devs made things right, not because they decided to fleece the players that did stick around to justify support.

I don't think it should have died, but I think that maybe Bethesda should have made things right before trying to push this sub onto the user base.

Remember when Square Enix botched the release of FFXIV. They took their lumps and apologized, then completely relaunched the game, and gave the early adopters free bonuses along with the new game for their trouble. People hated on them, but they did the right thing, and now, the game is considered one of the better MMO's on the market and has a good player base.

I think some publishers need to come to realize that they will make mistakes. It's not that mistakes are bad and you need to convince people that they are wrong. It's all about how you handle the mistake, and treat your customers right, and do what you can to fix the mistake. There's an adage when it comes to customer service. Sometimes, the best customer service comes when you acknowledge your mistake, and fix it right. People are often more impressed with how companies fix things, than how they may always be good.

They had just put out the fire in their dumpster fire game and even had the tiniest bit of positive momentum with 76. This is just downright disrespectful to anyone who already plays the game. I got this on day one and I enjoyed it even though it had countless flaws, bugs and still has many more to iron out. Granted I stopped playing this a while back as so many better and newer games have come out since. At this stage I just can’t believe the nerve to introduce a thing like this at all especially since the paywall features are what should be in the game as a standard anyway.

I think Bethesda are out of touch not only with us gamers but also with themselves. I’ll go back to No Mans Sky which is great now as that developer listened and delivered features that have since made the game fantastic...if only Bethesda followed in their footsteps.
