Control is a Game of the Year Contender

Control is a Game of the Year Contender - It's been a little bit over a month since Remedy released Control but is easily a Game of the Year contender.

It's literally the same as Quantum Break, with a few tweaks and slightly different special power. I don't understand how that game was hated and this one becomes game of the year.

ilikestuff2079d ago

The POV means more than most anybody thinks, my uncle sees everything first person, he swears by it

mcstorm2079d ago

Tbh I was not taken in by this game like Max Payne, Alan Wake and Quantum Break. Ive moved into grid and gears at the moment and will give this a 2nd go but for me it just felt it was lacking something

DreadGara2078d ago

Idk, Maybe he/she support feminism

EDKICK2078d ago

Definitely not literally the same, combat is much the same but that's it's. Story, lore, setting, atmosphere, tone, progression, exploration, level design, entire game structure, no TV episodes, ect. Maybe you should play a game before commenting...

Also QB is completely underrated, I believe part of the reason they share similarities is due to them knowing QB didn't get a fair shake due to the TV episodes and being a MS exclusive.

mandingo2078d ago

Cuz one was exclusive to xbox and the other is not. Go figure.

GamerRN2078d ago

@edkick I have played and own both. They both mix live action with in game scenes, they both have super natural story lines and powers, same game engine and combat is almost completely the same although it actually felt more varied in QB for to the powers feeling like they impacted each battle more. QB had more puzzles and was linear, but honestly it's very much the same game

How was it when you clearly played all the way through that time?

ilikestuff2079d ago

Have you played everything this year? No you haven’t! Why make such a controversial statement?

nowitzki20042079d ago

So only people that play EVERYTHING can pick GOTY?

Tross2078d ago

No one can play everything. That's not possible unless you play games as your job and never ever tire of them. People are entitled to their own personal GotY regardless based on what they've played or in stonecold3's case, what they're confident they will love when they do play.

But, since you've played everything, maybe you can help me decide between The House in Fata Morgana: Dreams of the Revenants Edition and AI: The Somnium Files for my personal GotY...assuming nothing I play in the next two months knocks them off their pedestal (unlikely, but I'm open to the possibility). I doubt either will chart in the actual GotY awards, but they're both fantastic in their own right.

In a year with games like REmake 2, DMC 5, LM3, Astral Chain, Borderlands 3 and Death Stranding? Nope. You've got to be joking. Some sites might throw it an honorable mention but that's about it.

LOGICWINS2079d ago

One question: Did you play it?

DefaultComment2079d ago

the game is great, of that there is no doubt but the harsh reality is that this game is overshadow by a big pile of games, Re remake, DMC5, Fire Emblem, Astral Chain, Link's awakening, Gears 5....it's all a matter of perspective, the general mass recognize all those games I mentioned but a minority recognize Control, and therefore the most popular usually wins the GOTY.
Sorry, but it is what it is.

EDKICK2078d ago

@ZeekQuattro @DefaultComment

So two remakes (Zelda, RE), two games that haven't come out yet (Death Stranding, Luigi's Mansion), and a generic Platinum game that look like it's from 2013....ok

Also I've really enjoyed Gears 4 and 5 but Control in every measure blows Gears 5 out of the water, (maybe not sheer graphical fidelity but Controls art style and atmosphere is way better). Again enjoyed Gears 5 but playing them back to back as third person shooters they're not even in the same conversation.

KeenBean3452078d ago

"Generic platinum game that look like it's from 2013"

Yeah after seeing that I don't think you have any merit when talking about potential GOTY. You can not like a game sure but dismissing remakes and one of platinum's most unique games just shows either ignorance or bias

EDKICK2078d ago

@KeenBean345

1. I have all the merit in the world when talking about MY potential GOTY because it's MY GOTY.
2. Everyone has bias, whether a blind bias that clouds judgement or a known bias simply shaped by taste and experience that if explained is harmless.
3. In saying that I am biased against Platinum I find their general style, writing, tone, combat, and story to be the opposite of what I'm looking for (mature, atmospheric, immersive, systemic aka many qualities Control exhibits). HOWEVER I can recognize great Platinum games even if they still might not be fully to my taste. Bayonetta 1 & 2 (not at all my taste) are fantastic examples of character action games, and recently Nier was completely deserving of any GOTY talk it got. Astral Chain looks incredibly average imo and not worth being in the general GOTY discussion though my shot at it's graphics was an unnecessary exaggeration I'll admit lol.
4. I wasn't dismissing the remakes outright both are games at the top of my wishlist. I'm not at all saying they shouldn't or can't win GOTY either personal GOTY or overall industry GOTY. Both are fantastic examples of a true ground up remake especially RE2. However I'm hesitant to elevate those games over worthwhile truly new games in a particular year that deserve praise, is all.

Hopefully I more intelligently articulated my views even if you still disagree. I would much prefer having a well thought out conversation on games we enjoy rather than you thinking you have any power to disqualify my opinions from mattering on this topic just cause you disagree.

tontontam02079d ago

Poor remedy, making this exclusive to epic store automatically made millions of pc gamers hate the game.

2079d ago
BrettAwesome2079d ago

Yes. Now they'll have to rely on those 145 million console gamers. What a shame

2078d ago
BrettAwesome2073d ago

What makes you think PC gamers would have made any difference?

EDKICK2078d ago

Maybe if those PC gamers that sit in forums talking about hating GAAS games (rightfully) and supporting great SP games actually supported those games. But I could see how having to click on a different launcher icon would be too tough to actually follow through with that support.

eh?
They better not mess much with the Max Payne Remake(s)

Yui_Suzumiya213d ago

Yeah but this was announced before the Max Payne Remake after all

LucasRuinedChildhood212d ago (Edited 212d ago )

What does "unlocking some previously released content" actually mean though? I would imagine it should be "previously unreleased content". Bit odd.

DaReapa212d ago

Right. Especially since the Ultimate Edition supposedly contained everything.

raWfodog213d ago

I only played about an hour of Control when I added it to my library back when it was one of the PS+ ‘free’ games. I’ll start it over again after the early 2025 update is dropped. I keep hearing that it’s a good game.

jznrpg212d ago

You can make that statement for any game. It’s called gameplay loop. Not everyone is going to enjoy the same loops but all games are repetitive by nature

RedDevils212d ago

Agree it was very boring game. Could not get into it. Remember me the game I played on PS3 is still better than this.

Chocoburger213d ago

These days "RPG" translates to constantly grinding for experience points, wasting time upgrading gear, and repeatedly collecting resources off the ground.

Please don't be an Ubishit style filler game.

Yui_Suzumiya213d ago

Hopefully it'll be more like Mass Effect

Amplitude212d ago (Edited 212d ago )

Remedy doesn't really make mistakes. It'll be good, I'm sure.

Inverno213d ago

So in other words it's an action game needlessly fluffed out with RPG mechanics and a pointless leveling system. I really enjoy RPGs when they're actually RPGs but modern action games really tire me out when they shoehorn in mechanics they don't need. All this does is make a 20 hour game into a 40 hour game because missions become locked behind level requirements, and enemies become damage sponges. It's not fun, it's tedious.

Remedy is leaving Epic in the dark place to self-publish Control 2

Remedy will self-publish Control 2 as part of a new "strategic cooperation agreement" with Annapurna. A press release accompanying the announcement says Annapurna will provide half of Control 2's development budget, and in return gains the rights to adapt Control and Alan Wake for film and television.

TheNamelessOne295d ago

Devs backing EPIC didn't last long. I just can't understand why ... /s

porkChop295d ago (Edited 295d ago )

This isn't about the store. Epic published the game on all platforms. They want to self publish because they couldn't recoup Alan Wake 2's budget.

Killer2020UK295d ago

...because Epic chose to restrict its PC release to the Epic store and completely restrict it's physical release until later this year.

Vits294d ago

It’s connected, though. They couldn’t recoup the costs because Epic restricted the places and formats where the game could be released, literally removing the biggest PC distribution channels from the equation. And they also sold the game cheaper than a traditional full release, solely to support their statements at the launch of the Epic Games Store that PC games would be cheaper if it weren’t for Steam.

RaidenBlack295d ago

Dang, nice ... Alan Wake II is an amazing game
Can't wait for Control 2 and Max Payne Remakes

DustMan294d ago

Not sure why your getting down voted because you found Alan Wake 2 amazing. I'm in the same boat as you. Can't wait for Control 2 & the Max Payne remakes. Max Payne 1 & 2 were some of my favorite pc games from my early teens lol.

RaidenBlack294d ago

Coz N4G logic.
You cant praise a game if its got no physical release, not releasing on PS etc

isarai295d ago

Maybe this time we'll actually get a day 1 physical release

JEECE294d ago

And hopefully Steam/GOG options on PC.

PS5 Non-Exclusives That Feature Fantastic Haptic Feedback

Sifu, Control, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and others, despite being third-party games, offer best-in-class haptic feedback on the PS5.

CrimsonWing69340d ago

I think the GTA V PS5 upgrade has some impressive haptic feedback and other utilization of the dual sense features.

Like, rain hitting you has a distinct feel, parts of the road do as well, fun fire feels crunchy and different depending on the gun (SMG vs Shotgun, for ex.), but I always get a kick out of the phone conversations coming out of the controller and if you have the lights off in the room and the fuzz is chasing you the controller does a good job of doing the red and blue lights that kind of light up the room and just add to the fun.

LucasRuinedChildhood340d ago

Borderlands 3 makes very good use of the triggers. Each gun feels unique.

chicken_in_the_corn340d ago

One of the best features of the ps5
