doesn't look constant to me..

Ricegum2042d ago

Looks fantastic though. This is great news for people who are into emulation.

Neonridr2042d ago

oh agreed, I was only poking at the article saying that the game is running at a constant 60fps when you can clearly see instances where it drops down to 30. It's all over the place to be honest. But it will get there with time.

Ricegum2042d ago

Yeah definitely. Also, the frame rate isn't 60fps, it's just the entire game is completely sped up, it's not quite the same. It's basically just playing at 2x speed or something.

Krew_922041d ago (Edited 2041d ago )

I tried it out on a 9700K + 2080 Ti and the performance wasn't that great. It's gotten better over time and I'm sure it'll continue to get better as time passes but it's not enjoyable just yet. It stutters quite a bit. Exciting to see what the future holds for Yuzu emulator.

Neonridr2041d ago

I mean these things take time, they will get there for sure.

Sgt_Slaughter2042d ago

Kind of sh*tty to show piracy for a current platform that's still in retail stores on a gaming site like this. (I'd be saying the same if this were a PS4 or Xbox One emulator as well)

wheresmymonkey2042d ago

It's not piracy. It's emulation. Something which is perfectly legal as long as you own a copy of the original cart.

Neonridr2042d ago

in which case like 99% of the people don't. But in theory in works.

EddieNX 2042d ago

Im going to try this in my local Supermarket.

Guards: Stop with 4K TV!!!

Me walking out of store with said TV: Its not theft, I'm emulating theft!!!

2042d ago
Sgt_Slaughter2042d ago

Emulation opens the gates to piracy, that's my whole point. You know hardly anyone actually makes backups or owns physical copies if they use something like this.

porkChop2042d ago

You also have to rip the bios/etc from your own console for emulation to be legal. Which I doubt most are doing. It's piracy, don't kid yourself.

MajorLazer2042d ago

@EddieNX

Apples and oranges

If you take the 4K TV, your local supermarket will have physically lost something, whereas the emulator doesn't actually take anything from Nintendo. Potential sales perhaps but that cannot be measured really

MadLad2042d ago

@eddie

I mean, that's a pretty dumb false equivalency, but do you.

2042d ago
Ratchet752042d ago

And how would you play your switch card on your pc???

TK-662041d ago (Edited 2041d ago )

@Sgt_Slaughter

"Emulation opens the gates to piracy, that's my whole point."

Guns open the gates to murder. Money opens the gates to corruption. How many scenarios do you want me to go through until you admit your logic is dumb as fuck? Your logic basically says "Someone may have done something illegal therefore the entire system should be illegal".

@EddieNX

You literally don't know what emulation means. You're not emulating if you're actually committing the act of theft. If this is your best attempt at attacking software emulation then that's laughable. Theft is downloading a pirated game, but playing it is irrelevant to the act. Someone can emulate the game without stealing it, and someone can steal the game without emulating it. If you can't separate the the two acts you're as dumb as @Sgt_Slaughter.

@Neonridr

Until you can provide stats to back that up it's a claim that's irrelevant to the conversation.

Neonridr2041d ago

@Iceman100x - uhh.. are you ok buddy?

@TK-66 - pretty sure the bulk of people doing emulating don't own the physical copy of the game. I mean why would you want to play a poorly optimized verison of this game for example on a PC with all sorts of problems when you could just play it on your Switch and it runs perfectly fine? My guess?? They don't own a Switch or the game.

TK-662041d ago (Edited 2041d ago )

@Neonridr

Until you can show me something based in fact it's a claim that's not relevant to the topic. Emulation and piracy are completely separate topics. When you try and conflate the two it suggests you're either trying to muddy the waters, or have a vested interest in emulation being made illegal.

Piracy can be done without emulation. Emulation can be done without piracy. This is why your 99% number has no relevance to the discussion.

"I mean why would you want to play a poorly optimized verison of this game for example on a PC with all sorts of problems when you could just play it on your Switch and it runs perfectly fine? My guess?? They don't own a Switch or the game."

Good for you. Not relevant to the conversation if you cant back it up though. Just because you feel it's right doesn't make it so.

jjb19812042d ago

Exactly. Then you'll hear the pirate justice warriors screaming out "that's what Nintendo gets!".

Teflon022042d ago

Is it piracy when I own the game? I would love to play Breath of the Wild on Emulator so I can disable weapon braking honestly. I Own the game and MO and if I can play them at higher res and disable the one trash mechanic that completely ruins BotW for me. I'll gladly do it lol. Emulation has always been legal.

But for jjb's sake. That's apparently what nintendo gets! Because emulation doesn't affect anyone but Nintendo? Okay then... lol

2042d ago
bikar2042d ago

I play it on emulator and it's amazing
It even looks way better in 4k than switch version and runs at rock solid 30fps :)

Sgt_Slaughter2042d ago (Edited 2042d ago )

Emulation is totally legal, I understand that, but the way in which someone obtains ROMs/ISOs is usually 100% illegal and not "as a backup"

Speaking of piracy, look what happened to the DS and especially the PSP. Hardware sales went up but software sales and potential games on them were affected.

MadLad2042d ago

See, this is N4G, thus ethical PC gamers are instantly labeled as non-existent; thus they can trash the proper emulation argument instantaneously.
Would love to see the world where emulation/piracy was as easy on consoles as it is on PC though. Why do I just know both would skyrocket in popularity in this hypothetical world?

InflectionPoint2042d ago

Exactly! Totally agree. I emulate because I can do things the console can't, like super smash bros melee in 4k. Did you know you can play SSB - Melee online with multiplayer, show me a gamecube that can do that?

jeremyj29132042d ago

That long ass slow-mo when dodging an attack perfectly was pretty annoying as well as the weapon breaks

jjb19812042d ago

Yeah because a majority that emulate it own the game like you. *biggest eye roll ever*

Servbot412041d ago

You can disable or reduce weapon breaking on a modded Wii U. You can also do crazy stuff like play as Linkle or Zelda or Goku.

shauzy2042d ago

nintendo fucked me, in so many ways, so not only im emulating their console but also i hacked it and im never buying a switch game again, all of them are cracks

King_Noctis2041d ago

Keep up with your self revenge I suppose.

2042d ago
ZeroX98762041d ago

Performance is getting better every update! can't wait for more improvement :D

King_Noctis2041d ago

Well this one is another negative news for the Switch I suppose. And you know what that's like around here.

IMissJimRyan2042d ago

Nice. Nintendo games are too expensive anyway.

King_Noctis2041d ago

So don't buy them? No one forces you to buy those games.

LightofDarkness2042d ago

It hitches and stutters a lot due to shader compilation (and no optimisation thereof). So not exactly a pain free experience. But a nice leap forward. Yuzu is really ploughing ahead, it's rare to see that kind of progress in such a short time.

But if you're looking to play this game, the switch is still the best way for now.

iplay1up22042d ago

Not okay to emulate a current gen console!

TakashiKomuro2042d ago

I am, but then again I'm going to buy these games. Been waiting on Switch in 4K.

iplay1up22042d ago

That will be a few years. I would buy one in a second, but that will be the full next gen Switch, not a mid gen upgrade. We will be lucky to see a 1080p Switch anytime soon.

InflectionPoint2042d ago

Hahaha dude, don't hold your breath.

TakashiKomuro2042d ago

Uhh, talking about the emulator guys, my bad. If I emulate in 4K and buy the games it's no biggie. Even better, I can play with an Xbox or PS5 controller down the line(when the emulation is improved).

Super Mario Odyssey Turns Seven - Ranking the 3D Mario Games

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "With the Switch getting on in years and the prospect of a new Nintendo console growing closer, now seems like an excellent time to take a look back at one of its mascot’s two big evolutionary lines, particularly since we now find ourselves in the longest wait ever between 3D Mario games. Today marks the seven year anniversary for the release of Super Mario Odyssey, and with no full new entry in sight, it comfortably beats the roughly six year wait between Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine, which should also be good news to anybody who broke a mirror that day.

3D Mario has delighted fans since 1996, maintaining an astonishing level of quality and bringing innovations not just to the 3D platformer genre, but gaming as a whole. Needless to say, it’s a hard task to rank a series where every entry is beloved, but I shall nevertheless undertake this risky venture with my head held high. Wish me luck."

One of the worst marios.. i hated the fact it was only about finding the moons and very repetitive with the same bosses. There is no exploration in this one.
Galaxy 2 is still unmatched

TiredGamer189d ago

I played, completed, and enjoyed Mario Odyssey, but I tend to agree that I don't think it's the best 3D Mario. There was sense of sameness that prevailed after the first couple of worlds... not in the levels, environments, or aesthetics, but in the routine of each world. It just felt like each new environment was just the beginning of another checklist of moons to acquire, and the sheer number of them took away the sense of accomplishment I got from the stars in Mario 64 and the like. I can't exactly put my finger on why that is. Galaxy gets my nod as the best one.

Cacabunga189d ago

I enjoyed it too but i won’t even place it in my top10 mario games.. as you said you are just looking for stars and that irritating music everytime you find one.
Also the bosses are pretty much the same from begging to end. I would have have like some koopalings instead of these dumb useless rabbits

Chocoburger189d ago

I played a little of this game and freakin' LOVED it! But I forced myself to stop because I hadn't played Galaxy 2, which I've been playing every day for the past week. Cripes, Galaxy 2 is way better than I expected it to be! Even though I dislike the Wiimote and nunchuck controls, and it annoyed me a lot with Galaxy 1, part 2 just feels better and slightly less gimmicky when it comes to the controls.

Profchaos189d ago

Sunshine at number 7 no way. I get it's not perfect but it deserves better to date there has not been another 3d Mario that's managed to capture that same movement it's the most acrobatic feeling Mario to date.

It's by and large better than 3d land/world and I'd argue that galaxy 2 didn't offer any trie innovation it was essentially a DLC pack to 1

Personally it's
1) Mario 64
2) Mario Sunshine
3) Mario galaxy
4) Mario Odyssey
5) galaxy 2
6) Bowser fury
7) 3d land/ world.

Could Super Mario Odyssey 2 Be Luigi's New Big Adventure?

Super Mario Odyssey was the Nintendo Switch’s debut for the franchise, and we saw our red-hatted friend don a new piece of gear that doubled as his new sidekick, Cappy. With so many characters getting some prominent screen time, Luigi felt completely uninvited to this party. That’s why we can’t help but think that Nintendo has something special cooked up for him in Super Mario Odyssey 2.

I hope they move on from Odyssey. It is my least favorite 3D Mario game. If felt shorter and a huge step down from Mario Galaxy 1 & 2.

Becuzisaid282d ago

I was happy for a more free roam 3D Mario, it's been forever since there was one like this, but I agree Galaxy 2 was a better game. Galaxy 1 I didn't like as much oddly.

The 10 Biggest Nintendo Direct Moments of the Switch Generation

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Last week Nintendo held this year's surprisingly packed not-E3 Direct; with a full schedule for this year and a vague promise of a console successor next year, it's very possible that we've now seen our final Nintendo Switch Direct, or at least one with major first party reveals. That makes this a good time to sit back and reflect on a generation of Direct moments, from the shocking and surprising, to the joyous and exhilarating - and, quite often, all at once."
