Naughty Dog Wants to Ensure The Last of Us Part 2 Runs Well on Vanilla PS4

Naughty Dog tells us how it's trying to avoid the performance disparity plaguing some triple-A games on vanilla PS4s.

Sniperwithacause2099d ago

Glad to hear that. Cause I'm not upgrading my launch PS4, until the PS5 comes out.

Relientk772099d ago

Same, launch PS4s work just fine. Can't wait for PS5.

Sniperwithacause2099d ago

Yep, keep it clean! The OS can be a little slow at times, but it gets the job done for me.

mikeslemonade2099d ago

The inferior PS4 is holding games back.

frostypants2099d ago (Edited 2099d ago )

This. When they enabled HDR support for the normal PS4 (awesome move by Sony, from a pro-consumer perspective) my primary reason for wanting a Pro went away.

Shimmerbut2099d ago

Double the gpu and stronger cpu was enough for me. Playing god of war at far smoother fps was incredible.

waverider2099d ago

Of course, because 90% or more of players got the base model. The upgrade share is very low. The premium models impact in numbers is low on both sides.

CuVe2099d ago

Well, here in Europe, most of the people already only buying Ps4 pro, because its 349Eur and the standard Ps4 is 280Eur. Very small difference. Every one of my friends that have bought a Ps4 in the last year bought a Pro model. So I dont think that the impact is that low...

sampsonon2099d ago

compared to the OG ps4 pro sales are little to none. it doesn't matter how many people you know that upgraded.

Ratchet752099d ago

Working for a gamestop european branch(micromania), i can confirm that the ps4 pro is selling better than the ps4 slim for the past two years now. The sales ratio is about 70/30 in favor of the Pro.

jonny8972099d ago

Pro owners will get some enhancements though. I think this is how it should be done.

rainslacker2099d ago

At the launch, it was making up about 20% of the PS4 sales. It's not much more than the OGPS4, so I can see why many people would not be opposed to spending a bit more. I think with the way Sony has supported the original, and even 3rd party devs who mostly still do fine with it, one can't go wrong either way, but if one was buying a PS4 now, I'd probably say go for the Pro. Upgrading, I would say its not worth it, but if one feels they want it, they will probably not be disappointed.

Juusterey2099d ago

Well...yeah
good
that's supposes to be the idea, the ps4 is fine and works, but the pro is better

UltraNova2099d ago

Its probably also their last OG ps4 game too so they'd better leave it with an optimised game.

stefd752099d ago

Was the 1st game one of the last big games on the PS3 ???

dazsarge2099d ago

@stefd75 It became big after release. Nobody knew how it was going to turn out as it was a new IP.

VerminSC2099d ago (Edited 2099d ago )

More developers need to remember that the majority of the player base has the vanilla PS4. I play borderlands 3 with my brother and he is on the vanilla PS4 and I have a pro, and he says sometimes it’s borderline unplayable.

AnubisG2099d ago

Vanilla PS4? Is there a chocolate one as well? 🤣

BenRoxio2099d ago

Yeah Vanilla, that's what the base consoles are called. Weird though.

BioShockGX2099d ago

Dude anyone who plays borderlands 3 on vanilla ps4 has my full respect. Tried bl3 on 30 fps the other day, it was a nightmare. High fps mode on the pro is heaven.

alb18992099d ago

I would prefer that it is a next gen launch so they don't sacrifice anything but they of course need sells and that will make the game sacrifice a lot for the base ps4

DreadfulHero2099d ago

I think it's safe to assume there's going to be a PS5 version of this game a year or two after this PS4 version is out, just like with the first game.

Brazz2099d ago

Insiders already confirmed PS5 Backward compatible, so it's hard to imagine a "PS5 version". That said, the last of us is probably going to be Crossgen title whit many upgrades on PS5, like 60FPS/4k, better textures and perhaps minor levels of Ray tracing.

UltraNova2099d ago

Brazz,

Calling it here and now - Nov 2020 tLoU 2 ps5 release (along with a ps5 enhanced patch for those who will have the ps4 version) with MP included.

spaceb0y2099d ago

The base PS4 represents the majority of the userbase so it's not surprising.

I might get one in a couple years but I’m in no hurry. Nothing at launch I want to play.

PRIMORDUS10h ago

If there are no shortages then why can't we just easily order a Switch 2 online, from Best Buy, Target, Newegg, Amazon etc. No shortages means we can get it by any means, online or in store.

shinXseijuro12h ago

Maybe there’s shortages in Japan ? But they’re pretty much available lol

shinXseijuro12h ago

But hey saying that creates more hype right !

Ten Years Later - Still Going Strong: Dying Light: Retouched Update Releasing June 26

Hey Survivors! Tymon here, your favorite Dying Light Franchise Director.

It's been an absolutely wild month here at Techland! We're in the thick of what I'm calling the "Summer of Dying Light," delivering updates and big news across all three Dying Light games. Just a few weeks ago, we dropped the first gameplay for Dying Light: The Beast, revealed its release date, and kicked off pre-orders (if you haven't seen it, check out my last dev blog). I'm incredibly proud of what we're building with The Beast - it’s the culmination of more than 10 years of experience in open-world survival horror!

But here's the thing: we never forget where we came from. That's why, this week, we're not just looking forward - we're rolling out significant updates for both the original Dying Light and Dying Light 2: Stay Human. We promised to support our games for a long time, and we're committed to continuing that support, right through and beyond the launch of Dying Light: The Beast.
