"In fairness, Monkey King: Hero Is Back looks like a fine, if average, movie tie-in. It just doesn't inspire anything in me."
From the writer; ‘I spent a solid 9ish hours playing Monkey King and that is important to note because I’m not one to put myself through complete hell. It was enjoyable to a point. If you are a child, have a child, are a Monkey King mega fan or only like to play games about 15 minutes at a time you’ll LOVE this.
However, if you want something more complex and less annoying then you can play literally anything else.’
Monkey King: Hero Is Back is an action/adventure game based on the successful CGI movie made in conjunction with the movie's producers.
Since childhood, the fabled Chinese classical novel of the mythical but mischievous Monkey King aka Journey To The West has been told and retold so many times that it has been an important part of my memories growing up. The writer finds himself drawn into watching each series, movies or even animated adaptations each and every time there is a new one, (sorry Bruce Lee, you come second).
I saw the movie, so that made me not care about this game since its the same story but with lower quality graphics.
Not really surprised in all honesty. I knew that even with Sony's help on the project, there's a good reason why Monkey King is being localised by THQ Nordic. Also, it's from Oasis Games, so duh 😑
To be honest, I really don't mind if the game ends up being average. If it's at least as fun as Knack 2, I'll give it a go. Besides, a lot of chinese game on the PS4 are usually average so meh. I think the reason why this is an issue is because considering how much both Sony and Oasis Games have marketing the game to be China's step forward in the gaming market, I guess mediocre reviews might make the game look like a disappointment. If that what will happens, then what will Sony (and Oasis Games) do after this? Will they try to fix the game like what Oasis Games did with Hidden Dragon Legend? Or will they act like it never happened like what China Hero Project did with The Walker? Only time will tell.
But let's be real here..at least it costs $40 (and $30 on Pc)an.
I wonder if you get to play as the Pig with the rake. he is funny character. Got punished for womanizing.
