DOOM Eternal is showing a lot of promise, and could be 2019's Game of the Year, but what does it have to do to stand out in a pretty crowded year of candidates?
Cultured Vultures: While we've been eating fairly good recently when it comes to DOOM, there are DOOM projects that never were or never can be ripped, nor (gasp) teared.
Midway did an excellent job porting DOOM 1 and 2 , just called DOOM, for Playstation in 1995 .
The PS5 isn't the FPS powerhouse the PS3 was, but there's still some good titles. Here's Chit Hot's picks of the 7 best FPS games on PS5.
all listed as number 1?
1. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
1. DOOM Eternal
1. Apex Legends
1. Battlefield 2042
1. Borderlands 3
1. Destiny 2: Beyond Light
1. Far Cry 6

Doom Eternal and DMC5 are my GOTY contenders followed closely by Sekiro. Been a long time since this many AAA games were in my GOTY list.
I think it will be good. Only thing I'm worried about is how will Bethesda screw it up. Their last 4-5 titles has been alright at best but lately all their games had something that was not needed such as open-world for Rage 2 or repeated mission structure in Wolfenstein Youngblood (along with terrible characters). A few other problems include their games being buggy at launch, as well as having some sort of live-service game or incorporated microtransactions (which should not be in a single-player game).
So I think it the core game will be good, but at the same time I will not be surprised if Doom Eternal had some sort of microtransaction based on their past few games or some sort of hub area (which was leaked but unconfirmed if true). This game is bound to get some sort of backlash. That's the kind of day and age we live in now.
