Otto Ottonsson have answered some questions we made him past September 12th, He firmly believes Xbox One X has reached it's limits with Gears 5
You probably wont see anything better on this gen of consoles.
I believe we already have
This gen isn't over yet and there's some heavy hitters that are about to release. I believe by the time this gen is over we will see better looking games then Gears 5. But to be honest it can be argued that some current gen games already look better than it in my opinion.
Have you play gears 5 on the X with a proper TV? I'm secure of your answer. Why not celebrate the archivement as a gamer?
@1899 I do have an X but I played it with my PC instead. "Why not celebrate the archivement as a gamer?" Well I haven't played it on the X yet so I can't comment on how it is on that platform. But as for PC the game itself is pretty well optimized and looks very good but it isn't something that I haven't seen before. P.S My PC is more powerful than my X BTW.
We already have, lol. Several games.
What several games? Do you even own the game?
Care to list those “several games”?
You’re joking right???
I would like to see Coalition make a new IP and see how that turns out. Make it happen Microsoft. Coalition has only made 4 games in its lifetime and only one good Gears game
@Naruto “Coalition has only made 4 games in its lifetime and only one good Gears game” Gears 4 had an 83 open critic score. Last i checked, that’s a good score.
lol no we didn't.
@Krib Why are you using opencritic when metacritic gives the higher score?
I have to agree. The game looks really good but its not the best iv seen.. Its very impressive to be running at that res and at 60fps but straight up graphics.. God of war, horizon zero dawn, and uncharted 4 are better
@kingcorey resolution and framerate are two of the most important parts of graphical quality. 60 FPS looks better than 30 FPS and so does higher resolution.
Technically it's the most impressive with 60fps/4k But visually wise it's not the best looking game this generation.God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Death Stranding, Detroit, The Last of Us 2, Ghost of Tsushima looks better or just as good in my opinion.
In your opinion... best looking is an opinion. It depends what kind of art style you prefer. But the technical aspects... 4K/60 FPS is a fact. And with all those visual effects and the incredible amount of content, I don’t see it being beaten this gen. Unless TLOU2 runs at 4K/60. The question is, is the PS4 Pro capable of that?
@YodaCracker it doesn't depend on what artstyle you prefer, gears 5 graphical fidelity isn't as good as some other games, hell it sacrificed world interactions and a lot of physics based stuff for the graphics it has(the same thing that far cry 5 did), technically the 60fps and the variable resolution doesn't make it's graphical fidelity better, it only makes the frame rate and resolution better, nothing more.
@Yoda The question is, is TLOU2 releasing on PS4 or PS5? Considering the PS5 is coming out next year I'll have to say yes it will be in 4K/60fps with ray tracing
Gears 5 is not 4k at all on X1X in gameplay. FAR FROM IT! And surely game has dips into 50's. VGTech : Xbox One X uses a dynamic resolution with the lowest native resolution found being 1920x1080 and the highest native resolution found being approximately 3200x1800. A form of temporal reconstruction is used that can increase the pixel count to 3840x2160 and pixel counts at 3840x2160 are common due to this temporal reconstruction. The native resolution is higher for the 30fps real time cutscenes on Xbox One X with the lowest and highest native resolutions found during them being approximately 2773x1560 and 3840x2160 respectively. Xbox One uses a dynamic resolution with the lowest native resolution found being 1280x720 and the highest native resolution found being 1920x1080. A form of temporal reconstruction is used that can increase the pixel count to 1920x1080 when the native resolution is below this figure. Pixel counts at 1920x1080 are common on the Xbox One. The lowest and highest native resolutions on Xbox One during the high quality real time cutscenes are the same as during gameplay, but the native resolution seems to be lower on average. https://www.youtube.com/wat... NX Gamer also said the same thing. https://www.youtube.com/wat... John Linemann who made a DF video said he was wrong : Dark1x : "I'm temporarily breaking my 'no posting on forums' rule to defend against this. I note that their performance results are almost exactly the same as mine in those same scenes (drops to low 50s with torn frames). However, I only tested those certain scenes as I had to manually add in a few torn frames here and there which the tools annoyingly missed - so it took hours to do the FPS tests. It sucks. Secondly, I specifically did not mention the lowest resolution as I hadn't found one that low. Pay attention to the wording - values such as "XXX" and "YYY". That's not the minimum, those were the averages that I found - as in, numbers that popped up often. Even getting those numbers takes a long time and it's just not possible to produce a video of this scale while getting every single DRS value - honestly, dynamic resolutions stress me out to an unhealthy degree. It is not my specialty finding all possible values - I can only do that given hours of time to work with. That's something I've always struggled with." https://www.resetera.com/th... Not impressive at all in the end. Isn't it.
Did I just read someone say higher resolution and framerate don’t make the graphics look better? I’m very confused by such a silly statement.
I understand where you're coming from but when you go to an Xbox article and just compare with Sony exclusive titles it's obviously trolling. You could have said any other good looking title like rdr2 and been less of a troll
Nah. I've played some of those games & while they're good looking games, none of them have looked as good as what I have seen from Gears thus far. I'll have to get it myself to see for sure, but so far it might be the best out there.
It only took 6 years and more powerful console for some game to reach Uncharted 4, GOW and Horizon Zero Dawn standards. LOL
https://youtu.be/JalWT8oNxh... I'll just leave this here.
Agreed, Gears 5 looks ridiculously good. AND it runs at 4K 60fps. What they did is nothing short of magic. Imagine what they will be able to do with Scarlett and raytracing!
I believe the guys at Santa Monica studios are laughing at your statement..
At any point in gears look at the ground... Go up close to a rocky surface and look at the textures.. Look very closely at the water and the faces.. Now do the same in god of war, do the same in horizon zero dawn, do the same in uncharted 4, in days gone even. The better graphics are obvious.. The lighting in gears is really good, and its hands down the best looking game on xbox. But visually the ground looks better in god of war, up close rockwall textures look better in horizon.. Buuut the fact that gears is 60fps is highly impressive. They res is dynamic but its usually pretty high amd that also a crazy achevment. Im not taking anything away from gears because its a masterfully made game but visually its not the best this gen if you have ps and xbox.
Too bad they used it for a Gears/Halo/Forza machine and the new IPs tanked. What a waste.
I personally want to see the Coalition try their hands at a new IP, for the next Xbox console.
@black ice joe good luck with that one bungie had to buy themselves out for them to be able to do destiny because MS wanted them to do halo forever
The Coalition studio was created to look after the Gears franchise, even the head of the studio said that. If you want new franchises, there are other MS studios that are in charge of that.
I understand most likely that the Coalition will only work on Gears games, but that is a huge mistake on Microsoft's part because look at what Sony has allowed their studios to do, take Guerrilla Games as an example had Sony forced them to continue to only make Killzone games we'd never have gotten Horizon Zero Dawn. So MS needs to allow their studios to work on more than just one game.
Honestly, they should have stuck with Halo, cause Destiny is just a pretty storefront. MS should have bought them back then.
Well it’s called the Coalition. Meaning that it will only make Gears. The people in that studio can form their own though, or move to other studios within Microsoft. Just like 343 will only make Halo.
I hear what you're saying, but that doesn't change the fact that is a mistake on Microsoft's part. I know I'm not only only one that would have a problem if 343 or the Coalition did something other than just Gears and Halo. If Microsoft wants those studios to continue to work on those games it is fine, but they need to be able to try something else too. I know Sony is a different studio, but had they never allowed Naughty Dog the chance to work on games other than Jak and Dexter we'd never have gotten Uncharted and The Last of Us. So both the Coalition and 343 need to be given the chance to bring out other games too.
I think Gears 5 simply joins the upper echelon of pristine visual games already out in the last stage of this generation. You can’t push much further without sacrificing performance or visuals (vice versa) for anything now. You need new tech, next gen systems will push out visuals like this but with a far more dynamic gameplay and environments.
I love this phase of the generation because you can't push a title graphically any further but you can see who the true creative studios are by looking at who pushes art style and design to achieve what was previously thought impossible on limited hardware. For example GTA SA on PS2 was impossibly good for a standard DVD game. Compared to other studios that obviously target next gen hardware and don't scale for current consoles like crysis 3 which ran poorly on last gen consoles
Pretty impressive what they achieved on the X, in Gears 5, but to be honest the console has been impressive since day 1, especially going from the original X1 to the X1S to the X1X. MS made a nice progression to the X1X, and I can't wait to get the Scarlett and continue playing all 4 generations of Xbox games. Absolutely love it and all of the back compat X enhanced titles.
I don't know if Gears 5 is pushing the Xbox One X to its limits, but I do know that The Coalition took advantage of the hardware in such a way that they hit a great balance. That's the achievement; hitting that balance of frame rate, resolution, and detail. I would say that Gears 5 is unique in this regard. Yes, compromises were made but everything is in the range of 'good to great.'
I really don’t think they should sacrifice framerate in any kind of action game. 60 FPS plays and looks much better than 30 FPS.
from what ive seen, no, plenty of corners cut to get to that 60fps, understandable though, 60fps takes a lot of horsepower to run, so cuts would have to be made, but i think without the base system to code for more could have been done with the x, the likes of the world interaction and object physics, along with the destructible environments, the terrible memory allowance for blood and bullet holes, the half assed prebacked shadows, missing lighting and the terrible reflections could all have been sorted if the base console wasnt a factor, its not the best looking game this gen, but it is up there, its pretty and runs almost flawless, but the world is way to static and attention to detail isnt as high as other games this gen, let alone how characters react to the world, simple things like getting wet in water or having plants move all add up.
60 FPS makes a game look much better in motion vs 30 FPS. I also don’t think you played it, it seems you are trolling.
how many times have i got to say that i understand that 60fps takes more juice so cuts have to be made, what i dont get is why the stuff that was cut should not be talked about when discussing the game and its looks, have you actually got anything to dispute the points ive made or not? call me what you want to deflect from the truth i dont care, the proof is out there. https://www.youtube.com/wat...
You don’t get it, resolution and framerate are directly related to what graphics are. A higher framerate makes everything look better in motion. 30fps is great for screen shots, 60 FPS is better when you play. Try to think about what it actually means, 60 FPS is twice the amount of information and so much smoother than 30 fps both visually and input wise. Anyway, watch the digital foundry videos to see just how off the rails you are about what they cut corners on to make the game so dynamic, 60 FPS and high resolution.
so you have absolutely nothing to argue against what ive wrote?, one more time, i know it takes more power to run a game at 60fps, thats exactly why the cuts ive mentioned have been made, we are not talking about how sharp the picture is or how fast the engine replaces frames, but how the overall game looks, part of that is what ive mentioned, which is why its not the best this gen, too many cuts to get the engine to 60fps... you following yet? also digital foundry is not some authority on anything, they said gears 5 had dynamic lighting across the board yet it does not..... watch the video i posted to see the missing destruction, the blood and bullets that last 3 seconds before disappearing, the missing lighting, the poor prebaked shadows inn places, the non reactive water and plants.... https://www.youtube.com/wat... this is why its not the best looking game this gen, and also why i dont believe its pushing the x to its limits. i gave fair reasons for my answer to the articles question.
Play the game on a proper tv with the right settings and I guarantee you that you'll be amazed. Be a gamer not a Fanboy and be happy for what you are watching.
so im a fanboy for answering the articles question? and its my tvs fault...... i actually gave fair reasons to back up my view so call me what you like, but denying some obvious cuts were made is crazy to me and far more of a fanboy thing to do, but each to their own. https://www.youtube.com/wat...
Give me my damn achievement for beating the game! Fix all the bugs. Quality control failed us all :(
I just beat Gears Of War 4 on my PC and Start Gears 5 and i can easily say this is the best action game i play from Microsoft studios. My PC is not powerful RX580 and Ryzen 5 and even with this system i got over 60fps on ultra with Full HD all the time. Game is smooth and very good. I love it :) (ESL guy)
a lot of blind people in this post. If you think that gears 5 looks better than god of war in terms of visuals, then you are a blind fanboy. I was fucking stunned when i first played that game. Now someone will come with a dumb argument about resolution and fps. Im only talking about the graphics, nothing else.
Well one could think that you're a fanboy with your overselling of god of war. I thought that it looked great to, but not the way that people sell it here. And if I am going by what I saw of Gears being displayed, it's a better looking game than what else is out there.
I love gears pf war to death, gears 1 back in 2006 was probably my best multiplayer experience to this date, and i still play gears ultimate edition. Im not a fan, and if i was a fanboy i would be defending gears. In all honestly, gears didnt bring something that we haven’t seen before (VISUALLY). You can say that im overselling god of war but that game is a visual masterpiece. The setting, the world, the attention to detail that you can see when switching to photo mode is mind blowing. There were parts of the gears 5 campaign where i was really hating the graphics, and there are other parts where i was really impressed. I didnt like the visuals in The mission where kait goes to the outsiders location and visit her uncle oscar. It was too colorful and cartoony it almost looked like boarderlands.
