Too bad they used it for a Gears/Halo/Forza machine and the new IPs tanked. What a waste.

I personally want to see the Coalition try their hands at a new IP, for the next Xbox console.

Well it’s called the Coalition. Meaning that it will only make Gears. The people in that studio can form their own though, or move to other studios within Microsoft. Just like 343 will only make Halo.

I hear what you're saying, but that doesn't change the fact that is a mistake on Microsoft's part. I know I'm not only only one that would have a problem if 343 or the Coalition did something other than just Gears and Halo. If Microsoft wants those studios to continue to work on those games it is fine, but they need to be able to try something else too.

I know Sony is a different studio, but had they never allowed Naughty Dog the chance to work on games other than Jak and Dexter we'd never have gotten Uncharted and The Last of Us.

So both the Coalition and 343 need to be given the chance to bring out other games too.

I think Gears 5 simply joins the upper echelon of pristine visual games already out in the last stage of this generation. You can’t push much further without sacrificing performance or visuals (vice versa) for anything now. You need new tech, next gen systems will push out visuals like this but with a far more dynamic gameplay and environments.

I love this phase of the generation because you can't push a title graphically any further but you can see who the true creative studios are by looking at who pushes art style and design to achieve what was previously thought impossible on limited hardware.
For example GTA SA on PS2 was impossibly good for a standard DVD game.
Compared to other studios that obviously target next gen hardware and don't scale for current consoles like crysis 3 which ran poorly on last gen consoles

I Owe You An Apology, Hideo Kojima, I Wasn't Familiar With Your Game

Hideo Kojima and PlayStation go together like hobbits and breakfasts. That is to say, they're meant to be together, but they're also happy to serve up a PC port or afternoon tea if the time is right. Kojima's long-time collaboration with Sony means it always feels odd to see his name next to an Xbox logo, like Master Chief appearing on your PS5 or glimpsing your teacher in the big Tesco doing her weekly shop.

Good to see people coming around.

yawn. ^ All of this opinion piece sounds like someone’s recount when they get out of the norm and go on a hiking vacation and boast about their “life changing moments” over things extremely common and accessible to everyone. Get a rocket ship and take some selfies already. jezzus .

Anybody else gave up reading a few paragraphs in?

If you missed out on old games it’s nothing to apologize for. Just the way life goes sometimes. We can’t access everything in our short lives.
