You probably wont see anything better on this gen of consoles.

MasterCornholio36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

This gen isn't over yet and there's some heavy hitters that are about to release. I believe by the time this gen is over we will see better looking games then Gears 5. But to be honest it can be argued that some current gen games already look better than it in my opinion.

Have you play gears 5 on the X with a proper TV? I'm secure of your answer.
Why not celebrate the archivement as a gamer?

MasterCornholio35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

I do have an X but I played it with my PC instead.

"Why not celebrate the archivement as a gamer?"

Well I haven't played it on the X yet so I can't comment on how it is on that platform. But as for PC the game itself is pretty well optimized and looks very good but it isn't something that I haven't seen before.

P.S My PC is more powerful than my X BTW.

We already have, lol. Several games.

rgraf7736d ago

What several games? Do you even own the game?

King_Noctis36d ago

Care to list those “several games”?

NarutoFox36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

I would like to see Coalition make a new IP and see how that turns out. Make it happen Microsoft. Coalition has only made 4 games in its lifetime and only one good Gears game

Kribwalker35d ago

“Coalition has only made 4 games in its lifetime and only one good Gears game”

Gears 4 had an 83 open critic score. Last i checked, that’s a good score.

MasterCornholio35d ago

Why are you using opencritic when metacritic gives the higher score?

kingcorey35d ago

I have to agree. The game looks really good but its not the best iv seen.. Its very impressive to be running at that res and at 60fps but straight up graphics.. God of war, horizon zero dawn, and uncharted 4 are better

kernel35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

@kingcorey resolution and framerate are two of the most important parts of graphical quality. 60 FPS looks better than 30 FPS and so does higher resolution.

Miss_Vixen36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

Technically it's the most impressive with 60fps/4k

But visually wise it's not the best looking game this generation.God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Death Stranding, Detroit, The Last of Us 2, Ghost of Tsushima looks better or just as good in my opinion.

YodaCracker36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

In your opinion... best looking is an opinion. It depends what kind of art style you prefer. But the technical aspects... 4K/60 FPS is a fact. And with all those visual effects and the incredible amount of content, I don’t see it being beaten this gen. Unless TLOU2 runs at 4K/60. The question is, is the PS4 Pro capable of that?

StonieWylder36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

@YodaCracker it doesn't depend on what artstyle you prefer, gears 5 graphical fidelity isn't as good as some other games, hell it sacrificed world interactions and a lot of physics based stuff for the graphics it has(the same thing that far cry 5 did), technically the 60fps and the variable resolution doesn't make it's graphical fidelity better, it only makes the frame rate and resolution better, nothing more.

NarutoFox36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

The question is, is TLOU2 releasing on PS4 or PS5? Considering the PS5 is coming out next year I'll have to say yes it will be in 4K/60fps with ray tracing

gravedigger35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

Gears 5 is not 4k at all on X1X in gameplay. FAR FROM IT! And surely game has dips into 50's.

VGTech :
Xbox One X uses a dynamic resolution with the lowest native resolution found being 1920x1080 and the highest native resolution found being approximately 3200x1800. A form of temporal reconstruction is used that can increase the pixel count to 3840x2160 and pixel counts at 3840x2160 are common due to this temporal reconstruction. The native resolution is higher for the 30fps real time cutscenes on Xbox One X with the lowest and highest native resolutions found during them being approximately 2773x1560 and 3840x2160 respectively.

Xbox One uses a dynamic resolution with the lowest native resolution found being 1280x720 and the highest native resolution found being 1920x1080. A form of temporal reconstruction is used that can increase the pixel count to 1920x1080 when the native resolution is below this figure. Pixel counts at 1920x1080 are common on the Xbox One. The lowest and highest native resolutions on Xbox One during the high quality real time cutscenes are the same as during gameplay, but the native resolution seems to be lower on average.

NX Gamer also said the same thing.

John Linemann who made a DF video said he was wrong :

Dark1x :

"I'm temporarily breaking my 'no posting on forums' rule to defend against this. I note that their performance results are almost exactly the same as mine in those same scenes (drops to low 50s with torn frames). However, I only tested those certain scenes as I had to manually add in a few torn frames here and there which the tools annoyingly missed - so it took hours to do the FPS tests. It sucks.

Secondly, I specifically did not mention the lowest resolution as I hadn't found one that low. Pay attention to the wording - values such as "XXX" and "YYY". That's not the minimum, those were the averages that I found - as in, numbers that popped up often. Even getting those numbers takes a long time and it's just not possible to produce a video of this scale while getting every single DRS value - honestly, dynamic resolutions stress me out to an unhealthy degree. It is not my specialty finding all possible values - I can only do that given hours of time to work with. That's something I've always struggled with."

Not impressive at all in the end. Isn't it.

kernel35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

Did I just read someone say higher resolution and framerate don’t make the graphics look better? I’m very confused by such a silly statement.

Profchaos35d ago

I understand where you're coming from but when you go to an Xbox article and just compare with Sony exclusive titles it's obviously trolling. You could have said any other good looking title like rdr2 and been less of a troll

mysticpizzaman35d ago

Nah. I've played some of those games & while they're good looking games, none of them have looked as good as what I have seen from Gears thus far. I'll have to get it myself to see for sure, but so far it might be the best out there.

It only took 6 years and more powerful console for some game to reach Uncharted 4, GOW and Horizon Zero Dawn standards. LOL

Zeref35d ago

Agreed, Gears 5 looks ridiculously good. AND it runs at 4K 60fps. What they did is nothing short of magic. Imagine what they will be able to do with Scarlett and raytracing!

azizlksa35d ago

I believe the guys at Santa Monica studios are laughing at your statement..

kingcorey35d ago

At any point in gears look at the ground... Go up close to a rocky surface and look at the textures.. Look very closely at the water and the faces.. Now do the same in god of war, do the same in horizon zero dawn, do the same in uncharted 4, in days gone even. The better graphics are obvious.. The lighting in gears is really good, and its hands down the best looking game on xbox. But visually the ground looks better in god of war, up close rockwall textures look better in horizon.. Buuut the fact that gears is 60fps is highly impressive. They res is dynamic but its usually pretty high amd that also a crazy achevment. Im not taking anything away from gears because its a masterfully made game but visually its not the best this gen if you have ps and xbox.

Too bad they used it for a Gears/Halo/Forza machine and the new IPs tanked. What a waste.

BlackIceJoe36d ago

I personally want to see the Coalition try their hands at a new IP, for the next Xbox console.

HentaiElmo36d ago

@black ice joe good luck with that one bungie had to buy themselves out for them to be able to do destiny because MS wanted them to do halo forever

King_Noctis36d ago

The Coalition studio was created to look after the Gears franchise, even the head of the studio said that. If you want new franchises, there are other MS studios that are in charge of that.

BlackIceJoe36d ago

I understand most likely that the Coalition will only work on Gears games, but that is a huge mistake on Microsoft's part because look at what Sony has allowed their studios to do, take Guerrilla Games as an example had Sony forced them to continue to only make Killzone games we'd never have gotten Horizon Zero Dawn. So MS needs to allow their studios to work on more than just one game.

Emme36d ago

Honestly, they should have stuck with Halo, cause Destiny is just a pretty storefront. MS should have bought them back then.

franwex36d ago

Well it’s called the Coalition. Meaning that it will only make Gears. The people in that studio can form their own though, or move to other studios within Microsoft. Just like 343 will only make Halo.

BlackIceJoe36d ago

I hear what you're saying, but that doesn't change the fact that is a mistake on Microsoft's part. I know I'm not only only one that would have a problem if 343 or the Coalition did something other than just Gears and Halo. If Microsoft wants those studios to continue to work on those games it is fine, but they need to be able to try something else too.

I know Sony is a different studio, but had they never allowed Naughty Dog the chance to work on games other than Jak and Dexter we'd never have gotten Uncharted and The Last of Us.

So both the Coalition and 343 need to be given the chance to bring out other games too.

CyrusLemont36d ago

I think Gears 5 simply joins the upper echelon of pristine visual games already out in the last stage of this generation. You can’t push much further without sacrificing performance or visuals (vice versa) for anything now. You need new tech, next gen systems will push out visuals like this but with a far more dynamic gameplay and environments.

Profchaos35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

I love this phase of the generation because you can't push a title graphically any further but you can see who the true creative studios are by looking at who pushes art style and design to achieve what was previously thought impossible on limited hardware.
For example GTA SA on PS2 was impossibly good for a standard DVD game.
Compared to other studios that obviously target next gen hardware and don't scale for current consoles like crysis 3 which ran poorly on last gen consoles
