We all know that the 360 is faulty and that but i`m glad people are still bringing this up. Being quiet will give the impression that MS can get away with this kind of quality in their products. The only way we`ll experience a better xbox (360 or 720) is if MS learns a lesson and accepting this kind of quality is not the right lesson. Sure warranty is good but it does`t stop my xbox braking down. And there`s also the disk scratching which MS does nothing about.

Also if some1 can clarify this for me:
I bought an x360 in feb this year (my third) and it has a manufacturing date of 2006-08-24. Is it possible for a product to take that long to be sold after manufacturing. Or did i get a refurbished console?

I highly doubt it would take this long for the 360 to get sold. It might be a refurb, you can try calling microsoft and see if they will tell you if it's a refurb or not.

Good point about the disk scratching. I don't know that many people with 360s, but none of them have had the RROD. However, every single one of them has had their game disks scratched by their 360 (luckily you can get scratched disks fixed). It's often overlooked in the light of RROD but it's just as major an issue.

Wonderfully detailed article. I wish more reads like this were brought to the table. The truth is that MS is only in the games business to try and unseat Sony. They rushed the console to market, a year ahead of Nintendo and Sony. They repeatedly denied that the system had faulty hardware until ultimately they were forced to admit it with over 30% of their consoles breaking down. Showing the obvious faulty design that was only constructed to try and unseat Sony's economical position as a videogame power. Sony, of course, has a very solid system with a very low failure rate. Nintendo, of course is the same. Both companies have solid customer support. MS? In the author's case, not nearly so much. They even outsource their bloody customer support to save money. Last time I was on with Sony's customer support, at least the guy spoke English well enough for me to understand. If MS is really serious about marketing a console to people, especially in these financially unstable times they really need to get their act together. They produce an impressive console yes, Lord knows I love my original model 360 (hasn't RROD'd on me yet), but they really need to get $hit together for the long haul. Of course, Sony is already on track for the long haul. 2008 was a great year for PS3 owners and 09 will be at least as great. Just one Canadian man's opinion here. Feel free to agree or disagree.

I agree, this is a great article. I know that not everyone will have the same level of customer service with MS, but it can and will be this bad at times. Even though I appreciate the 360 as such, RROD is the black mark for the system, period. And coupled with bad customer service, can quickly turn your client base into PS3 fans.

The force is strong on the Sony side, lol. My 360 had the RROD twice before i field goal kicked it off my roof, brought a ps3, going on for a good year and a couple of months, no problems here.
