Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition was just announced by Nintendo Switch. It is not just a port of the original game but based on a comparison, it feels like a proper remake.
Still censored though?
When was the first game ever censored? Never. Nintendo doesn't really censor anymore anyway.
He might be talking about Xenoblade Chronicles X. That game was censored in two ways if I remember. 1. One of the characters age was changed. 2. They removed a slider that let you change the chest size .
Yes Anymore But this was wii u
But why characters looks softer??
One of the few times I am really excited for a re-release of a game. Xenoblade Chronicles is one of the best JRPGs ever, the sequels never reached that height IMO.
One of the only rpgs I can play over and over again and not feel burned out on it. I agree it is definitely one of the best ever made.
Game was/is pure brilliance in every aspect. With this, astral chain, bayonetta 3 and botw 2 I'm thinking it's time for me to get a switch. I love my pro but I also love great games.
Will there be a collectors edition...please? I want the soundtrack, steelbook, and some other goodies.
YOU WILL KNOW OUR NAMES
Last 2 games have so I see no reason why not.
For me, this was huge news. I LOVED XBC2 but never got to play the first one. I owned it on 3ds but the graphics were terrible. I can't wait for this.
Terrible? Xenoblade's graphics were some of the best the wii and 3ds had to offer.
Some of the best those systems had to offer but still terrible as a whole based on the time they were released.
*sigh * If it's the same story, dialogue, gameplay etc, but in a new engine it's a REMASTER not a REMAKE. A remake is taking the original and building it from the ground up like Resident Evil 1 and 2. These journos... I swear....
Are Spyro, Links Awakening, Crash, SotC remakes or remasters?
Shadow of the Colossus PS3 = remaster Shadow of the Colossus PS4 = remake
@Vanferal But isnt SotC ps4 the same story, dialogue, gameplay, etc. just running on a new engine? Wouldnt that make it a remaster to you?
Sorry, I just posted that question because I know no one will agree, there are games that run the entire spectrum, and there really is no agreed upon deciding line on what is a remaster or a remake. However, we know that RE2 is a remake, and Lazy Port number 3 with 1080p upscaling is a remaster, but when trying to decide on some specific games it is very difficult, so I don't think we should be so quick to condemn on games in the unknown areas like XBC for calling them one or the other. Just my opinion.
If it uses new assets then it's a remake. A remaster is upscaling existing assets.
A remaster is usually just a resolution bump or increase in frame rate. If you can look at the comparison and assume it is anything less than a remake, you need to re-educate yourself. The improvements shown would need to be entirely recoded to a degree where remaster no longer serves it justice. Same engine or not, it is about how much they are recoding and programming in the end.
SOTC PS4 had the same gameplay, dialoue and story wtf?
Quite the opposite, as soon as you start using a new engine and remaking assets, then its a remake.. If you are using all the original code and just increasing the resolution, upgrading performance, then its a remaster
If that's a new engine then they should probably stay far away from it, It's hideous.
It's a remake.
Looks like they shifted art styles, before it looked kinda like vagrant stories art style. Now it looks more animated
I believe it has something to do with the new engine though. It might not possible to make the game look too faithful to the original.
Never played the original, but always been interested in it. We'll see how this port/remaster will look and play, and what kind of enhancements it will bring. If it's just a lazy HD port, I'll probably pass, but if they've done the effort, I'll give it a try.
Having put 600 hours in the game. This isn't even a port. It's a remake. They also put back in the bionis shoulder which was not in the original game. The version I see in the trailer is upgraded. It was cut and only accessed through hacking the game. I even see a Monando, not in the original game. This is a remake that likely uses the engine from Xenoblade Torna the prequel expansion pack for XB2. Monolith said Torna uses a new engine and told fans to look at the grass in one area as it looked slightly different than in XB2. Well, this XB1 remake looks to be using it based on just the grass. Crazy I know
Is Xenoblade 1 better than 2? I haven’t played Xenoblade 1 myself and I’m willing to get this remastered version.
@King_Noctis Xenoblade 1 is better imo. It was just way more epic than xc2 but I may be biased towards it honestly lol I prefer the soundtrack as well. But both are great games with different playstyle. They've upgraded the graphics now too and from the trailer it looks a lot better. It's as good a time as any to play it. I'll be playing for the 3rd time just for the upgraded visuals and to listen to that sweet soundtrack again.
Switch is on fire
lol, the library is going super saiyan.
Just waiting for misinformed people to call this remake a remaster
For those who get confused Remaster: upscaled graphics Remake: recreating the same game with new graphics Reboot: going back to the roots of the game while changing the story but keeping the core ideas.
Nope. Would you call Yakuza 3 on PS4 a remake? It’s had new content added into the game, some textures and assets were updated, it was bumped to 60fps and the resolution was increased. Yet officially, it’s a remaster. This game, unless it’s on a brand new engine and has been practically rebuilt from scratch (bar the story, audio and possibly animations), is a remaster. Look at Star Wars. When George Lucas went back and made the special editions by adding content, touching up scenes, swapping out characters and generally making the films look more modernised without changing the core structure underneath - remasters. Not remakes...
Yakuza 3 doesnt have new content, it just got back the content lost in translation
Did you read what I wrote? That's exactly what I said
Flawed article.. Not even telling on which platform it came first
I think at this point it is basic knowledge as to what platform this game was originally released on. Also, does it matter?
Yes it does.. Or I wouldn't have asked
“Shows How Definitive Edition Is a Full Remake”. No, it’s a remaster. They’ve updated the assets and adding in content which may have been removed. Basically the definition of a remaster. Look at Yakuza 3, that’s a remaster. Same game, same engine, updated and polished assets plus unreleased content. Yakuza Kiwami and Kiwami 2 - remakes, new engine and fully rebuilt from the ground up.
But this is not the same engine
New assets. New engine. Same Engine as Xenoblade Torna which was new for that game.
Definitely not a full remake. Just sharper textures and then they swapped a few out. Great game but it's going to look fairly awful on newer televisions if those screens are any indication. Handheld mode will be where it's at.
I will buy this.
Character models have been remade. Rest is higher res textures, shaders and filters. So no ... these pictures do not show how this is a full remake.
Different engine. Different textures.
