Strange there’s no Xbox One version

TGGJustin1693d ago

Yeah I wonder if it's because they are backward compatible.

There are already xbox one versions (aka the og xbox).

Knights of the Old Republic is an EA owned game. Historically EA have made almost no remasters of their games even losing themselves easy money (a Mass Effect trilogy would sell gangbusters). But KOTOR is such a sublime RPG and EA have the Star Wars franchise license and it would be so easy to up-res the game that they should get straight on it. KOTOR in 4K on PS4 Pro and XBO X, yes please.

How do you know remastered ME Trilogy would sell gangbusters? I bet someone at EA/ Bioware already did some kind of cost vs. return calculations for any of their old-gen titles worth remastering, and they simply found none. And when you say about KOTOR 'it would be so easy to up-res the game', it makes you sound a bit ignorant. It takes so much more than just that to release an old game on current consoles.

@boing1 When people are rude and shout out insults like 'ignorant' I normally completely ignore them because it means they are angry about something going on in their life and they inappropriately misdirect it to people on the internet. But because of the irony, for you I will make an exception and explain it to you. I've spoken in depth with developers who have worked on up-res games and remakes.

Notice that I did not use the word 'remake.' There is a huge difference between up-res and remake. So a full-on remake is a game like Shadow of the Colossus which takes the original and levels and then redesigns and draws and creates them all anew, this is effectively a new game and its large financial expense is equivalent of a new game.

KOTOR is a library title so EA is not so likely to go to the expense of remaking it. It is a game that is primarily in 3D. What I was suggesting by UP-RES is taking the game and increasing the resolution which for a 3D game can, relatively, easily be done! In fact this was done when the game was released on iOS. It has improved resolution, widescreen, better lighting and shadow effects etc. I've played it on Xbox One X and the resolution is enhanced by Microsoft and it looks really good, it could be even better if Bioware did this. This can be extended to current-get consoles with 4K and adding trophies and achievements. Something like this can be produced, relatively, cheaply and that's why it could happen.

Boiring1, it's definitely worth researching!

Cool story. I have one too. I work in game development for over 16 years now and I'm sure you played at least two games I've worked on. Upscaling the graphics won't magically solve over 200+ TRC requirements the game has to fulfill to be allowed to release on current-gen platforms. As much as I would love for it to be as easy as you think it is, it simply isn't. And sorry, if I've offended you but it strucks my nerve every time when I see 'it's easy' or 'because they are lazy'. Those kind of comments often ooze with ignorance.

No PC or Xbox version? Weird.
One the games on Steam but they won’t run properly on my modern hardware.

Hungryalpaca1692d ago

You can go into the config files to make it work.

isa_scout1693d ago

To bad they're not remasters. These games didn't age particularly well. Oh well, as long as the controls are updated I'll still pick them up.

What about the other two games in the series?

What's bitterly disappointing about the Switch version is you can play against Bots or people, but can't do both!

Me and my son wanted to play in the same game, against Bots on our Switches, but can't.
