Hunt: Showdown is getting one of the rarest things a game can get: an engine upgrade

"It is gonna be a long technical road" to update Hunt's version of CryEngine.

MadLad416d ago

Great game.
Smaller, but healthy, player base. At least on PC. Very tense game.

bunt-custardly415d ago

If anyone can upgrade the engine then Crytek can. Good news anyway. Hunt looks pretty awesome anyway, but with UE5 a thing now Cryengine beginning to look dated perhaps?

Eonjay415d ago

It was bound to happen. Let's hope that they can update their engine. As good as UE5 looks, we need multiple engines out there. This will prevent all games from looking too samey.

Looking at DF the last three Graphics of the year have been:

Insomniac engine
Red Engine
Decima Engine

I love seeing different engines flex their muscles.

Concertoine414d ago

I do too, but having a dependable and common engine would go a long way toward fixing development cost and time.

It's Cryengine free you say? Great news, sick of all that cryengine in my dinosaur games.

windblowsagain1677d ago

What Dinosaur games.

I cannot for the life of me understand why there are no Dinosaur games anymore. Not building a Jurassic world type thing. But edge of your seat as scared as fuk fps or tps game. With todays graphics and quality would have been awesome.

Just hope something is made for PS5 etc.

I'd love a remake of Dino crisis 1 and 2!

"CRYENGINE - The most powerful game development platform is now available to everyone. Full source code. 5% Royalties. No license fee." https://www.overclock3d.net...

that's very good news for a lot of indies.

Parasidious1698d ago

I would too, but I honestly I'd prefer a re-imagining of the series.

abstractel1698d ago

Hmm... couldn't you argue they also teased a Ryse sequel? I think it's equally if not more likely that they just used the assets they had to put together the tech demo.

Crysis trilogy remaster. Now think about that. The MP aspect of 2 and 3 got less credit than what they deserved.

UltraNova1698d ago

They might as well add a BR mode with all the suits powers while they are at it. Oh and hopefully it will be on next gen with some sweet RT and HDR.

Profchaos1698d ago

Nah it always felt like it was ea trying to shoehorn mp in to get some of that cod money I would have preferred more time and effort go to singleplayer

sander97021698d ago

I will buy anything from Crytek just to save them.

About time.

Crytek has been messing around with everything other than their flagship franchise. If they want financial certainty reboot Crysis. My only question.....can PS5 run Crysis? Make our eyes bleed. PS5, XB2, PC 2020 my GPU is ready. Or my custom PS5 AMD chip, Navi GPU, and Ryzen CPU will be ready come 2020 along with my 50 in 4K HDR. Crytek is a sleeping giant.

UltraNova1698d ago (Edited 1698d ago )

Wow too excited aren't you? Crytek was on the bring of bankruptcy not that long ago. They couldn't go spending 100 mil to make a sequel to Crysis. Not only that but C3 left us... unimpressed, so shelving the IP for some time was a good idea.

Now, 2020 is almost here, new consoles are coming. Crytek is doing better financially, so striking a deal with a publisher to either reboot Crysis or even create a spiritual successor to it for next gen is a good idea I personally can get behind. Their target should be this, create a a good all around game that will melt PCs again. Crysis 2.0. Reclaim that of which they lost, "Can it run "Crysis 2.0?"". Now that' recognition, thats power, that's a notion worth reclaiming.

Imagine a next gen Crytek AAA FPS/RPG game with 4K/60fps(at least on console) with top level RT and HDR support and all the new graphical bells and whistles...

annoyedgamer1698d ago

Crytek was a partner of EA. Shouldn't expect more then 3 games before a crash.
