The first impressions of the Left 4 Dead demo that will be released to the public on November 11th for the Xbox 360 and PC.
Looks like tons of fun. I think the concept is not original, but Vavle knew how to put it together nicely. For that, I need to give them some credit. Hoping this makes its way to the PS3 sometime year so I don't have to improve my PC's graphics card this holiday season with all the other games I need to buy. I trust Valve could make a good port, doesn't matter if it looks less detailed, things like that don't take the fun away, which is the emphasis on this game.
hey i dont like the keyboard for games at all, would a pc controller work for this game? i think the mouse is excellent for fps but the keyboard is garbage.
Left 4 Dead has native 360 controller support.
Yeah, all steam games have gamepad support. Xbox 360 controller works great on PC.
PS3 controllers do to right? I think there is a way to get them to work.
yeah i use a ps3 controller for pc i use it for gears of war
this is all so weird... the things sony fans do to feel that they are not supporting Microsoft on any way shape or form... when is not waiting for 1 year for the game to come out on the PS3... or the PC... is buying a microsoft game on the PC and even using a PS3 controller... Why don't you guys buy a 360 scratch the name with marker and write Sony Playstation 4 on it... that way you do not have to miss out on the games you are going through all this hassle to avoid... and make believe is not an xbox 360.
STFU! with that fanboy sh!t? Besides why would anybody with a PS3 and a PC buy a 360 just to play this game? when they can just get it for the PC. Besides you know it will be much better on the PC. So fvck off fanboy! Dumb!
"hey i dont like the keyboard for games at all, would a pc controller work for this game? i think the mouse is excellent for fps but the keyboard is garbage." I know what you mean, what I'd like is something to use with my mouse that allows for analog 'walking' in FPS games. Keyboard is not great for this, you are either moving or not. I remember splinter cell PC had a thing going on with the mouse wheel where you could have various speeds of movement, but its still not as nice as a gamepad. Anyone who has played assassins creed will know how nice it is to have SO many different movement speeds just by using 1 thumbstick.
Hey bladestar, --> thanks.
"this is all so weird... the things sony fans do to feel that they are not supporting Microsoft on any way shape or form... when is not waiting for 1 year for the game to come out on the PS3... or the PC... is buying a microsoft game on the PC and even using a PS3 controller... It's a little thing called value conscious consumers who don't want to deal with a potential 360 meltdown. The 360 game library is strong, there is no doubt there. But the console itself? I won't be touching it for sometime yet because a 3 year warranty isn't a selling point for me if the build quality is sub par. That's where the PC comes in, It's not a hatred of MS (for me anyway). Many people here likely have a mid to high end PC that can run all of the software that is "Xbox Exclusive". Keep in mind that this is not a fanboy rant, just the opinion of a well informed consumer. EDIT: @ 1.11 - That's funny, I've had 2 friends that have had to put up with faulty Xboxs that weren't that old. One for Disc read/HDD corruption and the other for the RROD. You better tell them that the 360's problems are a thing of the past. As far as me being a troll, you couldn't be further from the truth. But have fun trying to continue this console war of yours.
Enjoy it on your PC, this game is made to be played on Xbox LIVE -- and with the new NXE, it will be terrific. And, w/r/t '360 meltdown' -- thats nonsense. The heat issues were fixed in the middle of **LAST YEAR**. You need to get some new FUD. You're old troll is worn out and broken.
How can anyone take offence at someone using a PS3 pad to play PC games? Seriously Bladestar, you're just looking for a fight, aren't you?
cherrypie Valve is a PC developer first, they don't even do the majority the 360 work in-house.
so, I'm okay with a keyboard, but I can understand why a controller would be more comfterable.
because its easier and ive been using it for a very long time now ya know, the key board has too many spread out buttons for me to get use to (i dont have the time to get the hang of it, or i am too lazy XD) and i think the controller is better. but the controllers they have for pc can work for any game?
Left 4 Dead (and pretty much every other Valve game) don't use many keyboard keys. In L4D, on the keyboard, it's pretty just WASD, Ctrl to crouch, Spacebar to jump, E to use, Tab to show the scoreboard... and yeah, that's pretty much it. You'd need to have really small hands in order to have trouble playing this game.
Have none of you PC gamed before? You haven't been gaming right then, you have at least play on PC game before you can call yourself a basic gamer here people. I used to PC game, I got the Half Life 2 + CSS + HL2DM bundle and I played that a lot. Up until my video card started getting finnicky and started putting out less performance (I think my fan wasn't working fast enough) and eventually I couldn't deal with it anymore. I picked up console gaming before PC gaming with the Sega Genesis and N64. I picked up console gaming again with the Xbox and the Xbox 360, the controller now has grown with me and I can play shooters better on the consoles now. Left 4 Dead works magically with the controller, the only gripe with the controllers is there's no way you can turn around really fast without turning your sensitivity up which kills my aim. Left 4 Dead fixes this with the 180 degree spin on the RB, works wonders when 20 zombies are kicking and beating you down.
@PoSTedUP: There's a possibility you'll be able to play with a 360 controller on your PC. If you have yourself a wired 360 controller, it's compatible with Windows and fully functional. I don't know if you actually need to install software for the controller or not, but Microsoft has installations for that if need be.
true that, appreciate the info guys, now i wonder if my pc can run this game.... we will soon find out!
@PoSTedUP: Go to www.srtest.com and click on the drop down list, locate Left 4 Dead, and the site will automatically look into your hardware and tell you if you got the power for your PC.
iight i appreciate it, plus bubbles man. You Have: Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family (Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Controller) <---- this is my thing, it says i need a better video card XD. i might look into one, when i lived with my cuz he had a good one that ran gears of war, my computer is stock and i dont care too much about computer games.
Finally, an awesome zombie co-op. Boomer scared the bejesus outta me.
I cant wait, but if i like it im gonna wanna buy it and im broke :(
This game is so much fun; I've beat the demo a 100 times. It's only two levels in the demo but it never gets old. The retail version will have 5-6 chapters with 5 levels per chapter, co-op and you can play as the infected! The demo will be available for everyone to download on the 11th, for those that didn't pre-order.
this guy clearly got on steam like me go on, i have completed it may times because it was released on the 6th and pre-loaded on the 5th. if not he got a redeem code for the 360 by pre-odering it at select stores
If PS3 owners have a PC with the ability to add the PS3 controller to it, why not get L4D on the PC? And no Ps3 owner cares about supporting MS or not. I mean, don't you think PS3 owners like me are smart enough to figure out that buying a PC with crappy Vista and buying L4D will support MS?
Don't bother trying to supply well founded logic to people making silly fanboy comments. They'll never be able to process the information in a context that strays from their imaginary "war".
Survival horror rules. There are too many great games coming out in such a short time frame that it's hard to choose which one to play next. This one may be next on my list though after I finish Gears 2 (either that for Fallout 3).
If you're holding out on Fallout 3 because you didn't like Bathesda's Oblivion, don't! Fallout 3 is what I've been waiting for, what I knew they were capable of. It has it's irks, but it's amazing nonetheless. Simply for the fun factor and co-op experience (which I'm big on), I wouldn't hesitate to buy Left 4 Dead over both of those titles, and this is only from the demo. I can't wait!
Valve don't like to make games for PS3 because for then it is way too much complicated to so for Sony's console. And Sony don't want either to pay for Valve's games expecially since they don't do a good job making games for the PS3. On the other hand companies like EA and Actvision did their homework and know how to make stuff for the PS3 and they are winning more cash with Sony's Vg then they did with Xbox360 and all the super piracy support. These days there are no other excuses to not make a game to the PS3 other then because the money from Microsoft was HUGE to keep the game exclusive for the xbox360 .
A lot of developers choose not to get into multi platform development. Valve favors the 360, and that works for them. As far as I'm aware, Microsoft doesn't pay them any money for that, and Sony is not in the business of buying their way into 3rd part stuff, usually. So it comes squarely down to valves preferences. To be honest, I just don't think Valve likes consoles at all. They are PC devs from way back. They make PC games. In the case of the 360, the similar hardware architecture allows them to greatly increase profits by doing a relatively low-cost 360 version of their games, and that's all it comes down to. I would like them to get EA to port L4D to PS3, since I think EA has lifted their game since TOB. Could still happen, so we'll see. Valve's denial has only been regarding their own plans. There's no reason to deny EA if EA wants to pick up the slack again. To suggest that Valve would deny themselves further profit merely for the sake of some mystical fanboyish 360 thing is pure fanboy fantasy retardness in itself. <-- not directed at you.
yes with out a dowt, valve really only loved PC and why not. dont thing M$ has payed them plus there have more users on steam than LIVE and PSN I have all current consoles besides DS and with out a dowt PC is best remember people, Best on PC
Valve support 360, doesn't mean MS had to bribe them. Makes sense that a PC developer prefers the X360 since it is much easier to develop for and technically L4D is multi platform since it's on PC and X360. I have played the X360 demo and it is THAT good!!!!
well the demo was released on the 6th of November if you pre-puchased it on steam, its great but have to see what the death matches are like the campign is not bad. i prefer Zombie Panic: source my self really cool. remeber people, games play best on PC
Games play best on PC's for people that prefer to play on it. I'm sure it will run perfectly fine on 360 and be just as fun.
Yeah, and I always see that darn Microsoft logo before I boot up a 360 or a PC. Maybe I can stick it to Microsoft by playing L4D on a Nintendo, Sony, Linux or MAC operating system... oh wait, nevermind.
games really play better on PC, better graphics, better physics, better A.I, higher frame rates, more things to do than play games, larger communities, more content, more games, more function as use with pads or best with mouse and keyboard my friend has a GPU 4 years old that out preforms all the consoles my 9800 GTX plus has twice the raw porcessing power than the PS3 312.8 Gflops console gaming is budget gaming at best, its were all the developer go for the money nothing else. remember people, Best on PC
Wont even download the demo... Actually maybe I will so I can bash it! If its good ill get it for my PC because thats the best version.
PC version will e fun to, but only after you boot up Windows first. Good luck spinning that...:)
you're an idiot, why on earth if you buy 360 if you don't like it, just because you like to bash it doesn't mean you have to waste the money on something that you don't like. I myself had sold the 360 a long time ago, couldn't take it with the rrod thing so I say good bye to it for good :D
ps3fanboy....so why do you have a 360?
Get Xpadder for using your PS3 controller on the PC. Works amazingly. And 360 fanboys shouldn't complain because if you PS3 controller works on the PC why go and buy a 360 controller. But I'll be using mouse and keyboard on this one. Only reason I use the PS3 controller is for racing and fighting games on the PC.
You do not want to play this game with a gamepad anymore than you want to play Counterstrike with a gamepad. Trust me on this, you want mouse aiming when playing this game. There's a ton of zombies, they all run at Unreal 3 speed and they can jump. If that isn't bad enough you might be the guy who is stuck with a bolt action rifle and 12 rounds. Even with a full group of players every single shot must count or else you'll never make out of the level alive. If L4D is pretty hard on the PC, its going to be a death-a-thon on the consoles.
Can't wait to get this on the PC, I haven't preordered yet though just waiting for Valve to release the demo already.
i love the sheer amount of badies that come at you at once in this game. this is a definite pc purchase for me. how do you get away from those guys that dive at you without one of your friends helping you? ;)
This game actually has me wishing I had a 360, but pretty much just this game...
this looks like a lotta fun. i may have to DL the demo when it hits. been kinda strung out on the whole Zombie concept. the only movies i EVER saw get it right was 28 days/weeks later---and a MUSE inspired soundtrack made them masterpieces. but i think i could give this game a chance.
watch shaun of the dead lol shat myself laughing all way though it "theres a girl in the garden" lol
