Nintendo maintained a family-friendly appearance for the longest time, but things have been changing lately.
Since they found out it will get all perverts on and make money
Or maybe censorship is wrong? Ever realize that?
Yes, Nintendo is doing this to make the world a better place. Remove all wrongs. Thanks Nintendo.
@above Sure they are. Soon they will be the one who cure cancer and solve the world’s hunger issue. I wonder if this was Sony, what would you have said?
Seen as you raise the topic of Sony. Sony is the evil one here. Do you see me defending them?
King_Noctis, Actually, Sony did try to help in curing cancer via [email protected] And people made fun of them for it during the formative years when the PS3 had limited software; the Xbox fanboys would say things to PS3 gamers like, "Go fold and print", a reference to [email protected] and PS3's ability to hook up to a printer.
Censorship is wrong but in my experience talking to people who are huge Nintendo fans in late life... Most are perverts. It could be just where I live... But I doubt it because I've been around the US as well as run into many foreign gamers too and many adult Nintendo only gamers are strange.
@King_Noctis The funny thing is Sony might actually have a shot at curing cancer as they have a medical division unlike Nintendo. Now to be fair Sony's medical equipment has nothing to do with PlayStation but you brought up Sony... Most people do not know PlayStation is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony but the company is given near full autonomy from Sony.
There are no adult games on the Nintendo platform. There are some mature titles. Thankfully, Nintendo isnt behaving like they are people parents/guardians and being overprotective of them. We have a ratings board and adult games arent allowed on console platforms. That enough, we dont need Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft censoring games on top of the ESRB. What Sony is doing is just disgusting and makes me sad.
Eh. I still sleep just fine. Censorship of gore in a horror title might be offputting, but I really am indifferent toward censoring sexual content. I have no skin in that game, so my opinion only goes so far.
What is Sony thinking? This is the main problem that I have with them, and it needs to be fixed. These are mature games for a reason.
Agreed. I have played a few pervy titles on Vita during about 5 years after it launched but they weren't my cup of tea so I did what any reasonable person does when they don't like games. I didn't buy any other titles in those franchises. PlayStation choosing now to censor these titles is pretty dumb as they never were a problem in the past, they clearly didn't hurt PlayStation's reputation and if people don't like them they can do what I did and not buy them.
To be fair they've been doing it for a while it's just that game journalists and Nintentoddlers ignored those games because it would break their perfect (and completely imaginary) vision of Ninty.
Since late in Wii U's lifecycle? Yeah that's less than 10 years ago. Meanwhile PlayStation only just started censoring aspects of these games as recently as last year in its 25 year history.
When they needed sales.
so they didn't need sales before?
Not before Wii u.
@awdevoftw - so they needed sales after the Wii U? They didn't make a boatload off 3DS sales or anything? Do you know how much Nintendo is actually worth?
Since they released the Switch. Nintendo's overall attitude has changed for the better.
Nearly obliterating your reputation and losing all your cash reserves will do that to a company. Wii U's collosal failure changed Nintendo for the better.
Sex sells. Nintendo is a business.
Remember when Nintendo dabbled in "Love hotels"? Uh yeah, that is actually a part of their history!
title of this article really isn't correct, it should say "mature" games, and not "adult games".... its good for nintendo to embrace diversity of ideas.
Not sure this is a new phenom. Nes had a mature poker game back in the day. I mean it wasn't jiggly but the pixels were there. And there was a sick game called Chiller.
Because they failed so badly with wiiu same reason ms allowed cross play
Yeah, you keep thinking with that incorrect assumption. Nintendo has been cool with mature games on their system for a while. Remember BMX XXX? Yeah, Sony censored that on PS2 while on GameCube it was unedited. And don’t forget Conker’s Bad Fur Day on N64. Y’know, the one that Microsoft censored for its rerelease. That was created by a second-party developer, Rare.
When nintendo gave the finger to politics and sjw's.
Historically it’s been traditional conservatives who’ve been to blame for more game censorship. They’re equally giving the finger to them.. (which is to say, they’re not really giving the finger to anyone.) “SJWs” are also generally sex positive. Mature game does not equal controversial game.
So you think it was the conservatives who was crying when mortal kombat had sexy characters?
I think it was around the time of Bayonetta 2, for some odd reason............
Nope, well before that my friend.
They're trying to get as many types of gamers to buy their platform. Even though the majority of games that sell are first party. And none of their games have mature content at all. So,it's not like they are fine with it. Just tolerate some of it for sales. As someone said earlier: sex sells. N4G used to not have tons of anime sex games and cosplay, etc articles. But it creates more clicks for the website to get that ad revenue. I know it comes down to who posted the articles. But how do we know if some of them don't have investment in those sites but are a N4G contributor. I'm not for censorship. But there are some things that aren't acceptable. But get called out as censorship. We know what those games are and why it's crossing that line. Just because you slap a rating on it doesn't mean it's right. You don't see AO games on any console. Why? Because it's unacceptable and these companies don't want to effect their sales by having it. You won't see racist games, rape games, etc because it's unacceptable. Gamers should know the difference between censorship and acceptable.
These pervy titles are strange but they don't contain nudity and typically skirt the AO rating that would keep them from being published (even by Nintendo). If you don't like them don't buy them. It really is that simple censorship isn't required.
I saw this on the store and had a good laugh with a few people about it. There's been quite a few like it now - Read their store descriptions, they're hilariously poorly translated.
Mature titles. Not Adult. Adult games are only available on PC.
This just goes to show you how pathetically garbage gaming journalism is and the bulk of these hacks that make up these so-called journalist. The headline alone was enough to let me know that the article was going to be shite though, so at least they saved me the read & I got to deny them a click. The fact of the matter is, there have been mature games on Nintendo systems going back decades and multiple generations now. However, that just happened to be an inconvenient truth for the lowbrow bottom feeders looking to get cheap clicks & attention using their platforms to fanboy, spread misinformarion, troll & hate and/or to/alather up the trolls, Fanboys & haters. As since Mortal Kombat 2 that tired ass , archaic & immature Fanboy talking point should have been dead & buried. Especially when they were making games like Conker's Bad Fur Day & having games like Manhunt 2 & House of the Dead Overkill on their systems. Let's not forget that when sony was censoring BMX XXX (and even Manhunt 2) that they had no issue with it btw. Now, I know that this might come as a shock to the the uninformed or bristle the whiskers of those who don't care/like to venture outside of their little bubble and/or love alternative facts and realities, but it's the truth. Despite what stupid articles & conspiracy theories some want to laughably lob out there (such as it being a recent thing or because of the Wii U when seriously they pretty much changed their tune in the Snes era when they were doing well). it's hardly something new. It just seems that cow is running out of milk & they may need to find another way to brainwash the easily misled & uninformed.
Mature and uncensored games on a Nintendo device? This is actually a recent revelation for them so in that way the article is probably not wrong (I don't know I didn't read it either). Of course none of these publishers host AO games so when the title is wrong the article is likely wrong too.
Shouldn't be a revelation to much of anyone that calls themselves a gamer considering that mature and uncensored games have been on Nintendo systems since pretty much the Snes. Which is why when it's supposed to be coming from someone in the know or a so-called "gaming journalist "I find even the headline to be laughable & the very thought of the article to be clickbait trash. I can understand a run-of-the-mill everyday person not being informed & perhaps a bit ignorant, but when you try to pass yourself off as some journalist or someone that should actually be taken seriously, that's unacceptable. And it shows just goes to show how woefully unqualified & garbage in your approach to delivering quality & factual content that should be taken even remotely seriously.
Since they started making love hotels decades ago.
I'm going to say the 1980s when Miyamoto made a game where you played as the devil. Nintendo has never been anti-adult games, It's just that it has taken them decades to shake the perception because the bulk of their own games are PG-13 in tone, though many in the background, I'm looking at you Zelda, are really dark and I'm not just talking about Majora's Mask.
Never thought they did, they are a kiddie company and for a long while now.
So what is a kiddie company doing with mature exclusive games like Fire Emblem Three Houses, SMTV, and Bayonetta 3, or allowing borderline hentai games which even Sony doesn’t?
Way to go listing all new titles most of which haven't even released yet... Seriously go back to before Nintendo made consoles then look at NES and SNES and N64 and Game Cube how about Game Boy all the way through N3DSXL? There's like 5 in 3 decades until the Wii U launched and that was less than 8 years ago even after Wii U launched the only mature title was Bayonetta and then Bayonetta 2 neither of which are all that mature in my opinion basically the reason it's rated M is for blood, gore and partial nudity. Course really mature themes like those in Heavy Rain would be blocked by Nintendo in Wii U's time and probably still would be on Switch... But them jiggle physics is what qualifies as mature. Right now the only reason PS is censoring content is likely because their HQ is now in the most SJW-centric state on the planet... California.
When the money started pouring in at an alarming rate.
