Ugh... I was excited about this game but the more I learn about it the more it feels like homework disguised as a game. I want to play something I can get enveloped into and to get lost in. I really hope I'm wrong about this game but right now I'm having a hard time seeing the "fun" aspect to this game.

TricksterArrow2129d ago

Maybe it's just not for you? It's okay.

Brave_Losers_Unite2129d ago

So can you tell me what part of the gameplay do you find fun?

S2Killinit2129d ago

@brave
How can he tell you that when neither of you have played the game yet?

TricksterArrow2129d ago

@Brave
I literally can't either way, because I haven't played the game yet.

nyu12129d ago

Not every game needs to be nonstop action. And no, games do not need to be 'fun'.

There are plenty of games that focus on immersion and the like, and they are very successful.

TheOptimist2129d ago (Edited 2129d ago )

Deus Ex being a financial failure says "Hi"

The OG one btw, that was and still is one of the best games ever crafted.

Krew_922129d ago (Edited 2129d ago )

Exactly. Fun is a subjective thing anyway. Some people might find walking simulator genre games fun, while others can't stand the concept alone. Death Stranding seems extremely interesting with perhaps a higher emphasis on storytelling than gameplay. I enjoyed MGS4 despite some saying it was boring and just cut scenes, if this is even half of what that game was, this will be a hit in my opinion.

Fluttershy772129d ago (Edited 2129d ago )

Ok let's hear it. What games are not fun but still good?... come on, and you can't cheat "For me is not fun but I know the game is good bla bla" No, you said "Games do not need to be fun" that's some statement, so back it up!

Oh my god, the other day I played this game... I bored myself to death, it was SO good!

Fun is subjective, but games need to be fun (at least for someone) and a game it's a failure when is not fun for at least a decent amount of the people that bought it. Nobody buys a game expecting to be bored

2129d ago
Seraphim2129d ago (Edited 2129d ago )

food for thought. there are some outlier games that don't need to be fun. They just need to be enjoyable. For instance, Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls and Detroit. Those aren't fun to me but they are incredibly enjoyable and immersive. Generally speaking though games do need to be fun.

2129d ago
Flewid6382129d ago

All games don't need to be non-stop action.

But yes...they DO need to be fun. That's why it's called entertainment.

chiefJohn1172129d ago

...huh? Then why TF would you play it if it ain't fun?

Simple answer, do not purchase. It's amazing as you are actually in control of that

JokerBoy4222129d ago

Damn you're right. Sorry I posted my opinion.

Anyone who can't see the difference between homework and video-game has bigger problems ahead of him.

URNightmare2129d ago

I had a lot of fun with Journey.

That's all I'm going to say.

RangerWalk2672129d ago

I agree. Dr Disrespect hit the nail on the head when saying that it just looks like a bunch of ideas thrown into one game with no real purpose. I was going to buy this day one. Now I'm going to give it a few weeks to a month to see how it's received. Or maybe I might just Redbox it like I have with the past couple Sony exclusives. I wish Sony had a Gamepass like service to where I could try/play it with no risks.

UltraNova2129d ago

As much as I enjoy an occasional Doc vid they guy wouldn't know a dick if he hit him on the head so I wouldn't expect him to know the potential/concept a Kojima game has. Helll if he had played one of his games before he would know that all those ideas "thrown around" are all connected.

Juusterey2129d ago

Once you start using dr disrespect as an argument, you've lost all credibility

Valorforte2129d ago

So Death Stranding's not for you the same way FIFA isn't for die-hard World of Warcraft players. There's no overlap in what you like and what this exciting new genre of game offers. And that's fine. Go be vocal about FIFA and Ultimate Team with someone who cares instead please, we don't want you here.

pinkcrocodile752129d ago (Edited 2129d ago )

I'm getting it day one for my fella but I'd rather watch Schindlers list with the laughter track ON. Cyberpunk 2077 for me!

im just more confused every time i see something new........havent got a clue whats going on

DaDrunkenJester2129d ago

Lots of walking. Apparently walking from east to west connecting settlements as you go.

IRetrouk2129d ago (Edited 2129d ago )

We gonna just ignore that we have seen a bike being used? and vehicles in that reveal vid of mama? For all we know she ends up as our mechanic, weve seen some of the enemies, a slice of combat, outposts, equipment, we also seen the shooting gameplay with the tank, We know very little about the game though, with this article it clears up some of the confusion, walking is just one part.

DaDrunkenJester2129d ago

@IRetrouk

For all we know... she doesn't. We did see a bike, but is that available all game? What about when you need to climb a mountain with your extension ladder? Or cross a river? Or rappel down a crevice? I doubt you get to continue with the bike at that point.

Shooting gameplay with the tank? You mean the small scene where Reedus was crouch walking next to the tank for cover? We did see some shooting when he was in the trenches, and in the Japanese trailer with that big black monster he pulled out a pistol looking weapon.

This is why I want more gameplay info. I don't want anymore story, I'm good on story, the story looks interesting.

IRetrouk2129d ago

Well then say that instead of your bait comments, if your truly interested you know gameplay is coming to tgs, you just seem overly negative for somebody who supposedly wants the game, or atleast truly interested in it🤷‍♂️

DaDrunkenJester2129d ago

@IRetrouk

I'm literally just quoting the article based on the walking. I am interested in the game, I'm just tired of this stupid teasing. He is apparently showing more in depth gameplay behind closed doors, but he shows the general audience some troll video? It's just annoying lol

IRetrouk2129d ago

Ok fair enough, I can understand that, dont agree myself as I like the mystery but can see your view

IRetrouk2129d ago

The article is pretty good, makes some sense now atleast, really cant wait for this, love kojima and his ideas, day 1 still.

victorMaje2129d ago

Kojima-san I really hope you got a winner here cause the hype over this game is just astronomical & I have zero clue on what the hell is going on :)

xX-oldboy-Xx2129d ago

What else is there? Ghost of Tsushima and CYBERPUNK 2077, the rest are sequels. Next gen console news and rubbish outrage articles.

I enjoy Kojima's games, fairly sure I'll enjoy this.

Christopher2129d ago

Sequels bad?

Also...

Greedfall
The Outer Worlds
Code Vein
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Control
Astral Chain
Man of Medan
Biomutant
Gods and Monsters

xX-oldboy-Xx2129d ago

Sequels arent bad - they're extensions of what we already know, I'll take a new ip from an industry legend any day of the week.

That's great that you can list new games - but are any of them generating the level of hype the op referred to?

Where as CYBERPUNK 2077 on the other hand is and for good reason. Maybe Ghost Of Tsushima was a bad example - being as only PS4 owners can be hyped for it.

IRetrouk2129d ago

Sequels ain't bad man, theres a lot of games I would like a sequel to, I dont think that should take any game out of the question.

Christopher2129d ago

***but are any of them generating the level of hype the op referred to? ***

Now you're just moving goal posts. Your original comment just complained about sequels and the lack of new IP. It didn't complain about not enough new IP having "hype" which is primarily subjective in nature.

Fairly certain Control and Fallen Order have that same level of hype, btw. A few of the others have good hype, just not as high as Cyberpunk.

xX-oldboy-Xx2129d ago

Christopher - no goal posts have moved.

**cause the hype over this game is just astronomical**

Those aren't my words, I simply stated - what other game/s is generating that level of hype.

*I never said sequels were bad.

*I never complained.

*I outlined what I think is generating hype to the same levels as DEATH STRANDING.

*I stated what articles are presented on N4G.

*Then stated how much I think I'll enjoy DEATH STRANDING.

You then went on to name every decent looking game coming out for the nest year.

Seems your getting confused over nothing.

Christopher2129d ago (Edited 2129d ago )

You never directly say they're bad, but you do disregard then in the discussion . That's why I asked (note the question mark).

Yeah, you did complain. The whole comment was a complaint. We'll just have to "agree to disagree" since I don't think you'll ever admit that.

I replied directly to your comment of ignoring other games where you mentioned absolutely nothing about the focus being on level of hype. Just on what there is.

Your statement of articles on N4G was a complaint, btw...

In the end, if you want to make a statement, make it clear rather than generalized. Otherwise don't act surprised when people reply to you the way they do and expect them to read your intent. And, even then, Control and Fallen Order fall in your guidelines.

I'm out on this as I think I understand you better, bit still disagree with your sentiment of us lacking in new IP hype. I think you're measuring the 1 percent expecting it to have the same quantity as the other percentage. That's just not how it is. It's never been a ton of exceedingly high quality new IP in gaming with tons of hype. You're setting yourself up for disappointment with those requirements.

xX-oldboy-Xx2129d ago

Fair enough mate - remember I was replying to someone who framed hype as "astronomical".

Not many things fall into that category at the moment. I think I did a reasonable job outlying what gets hyped on N4G.

You're free to disagree, everyone is.

victorMaje2129d ago

@Christopher
There must have been some misunderstanding here, as oldboy stated I mentioned an “astronomical” amount of hype for Death Stranding seeing how so many are intensely waiting for it.

Sequels are definitely not bad, Borderlands 3 & TLoU 2 are at the top of my most hyped for games.

@oldboy
Cyberpunk 2077 yes! Can’t wait to get my hands on this one & Ghost of Tsushima has me very very interested....wallet’s gonna start hurting soon :)

Silly gameAr2129d ago

Well, the way people are going at this game, it seems pretty hype to me.

xX-oldboy-Xx2129d ago

Silly - and go at it they are, it's hilarious how many people want this game to fail.

RememberThe3572129d ago

@oldboy
Makes you wonder if they feel this way about everything they don't understand?

Or is there some sort of vitriol for survival games? Are they the new battle royal?

xX-oldboy-Xx2129d ago

victoMaje - Thank you for not taking my words out of context, appreciate your reply.

RangerWalk2672129d ago

In my gaming "community" there is next to no hype for this one. And we're a group of gamers that purchase a BUNCH of titles. I'm sure this game will turn out to be good...but there's just not enough of it shown to understand it and to get hyped for it.

which means you are lying, or you are a writer for a living who doesn't know what "prove" means
which is it?

Content writers have to be hyperbolic.

Bwremjoe65d ago

On n4g, I frequently get so annoyed by comments that I take the time to login so I can downvote someone. Today is such a day. What a pointless comment…

Got the Director's Cut platinum a couple of hours ago.
Ready for DS2 now.

Storm2380d ago

I have been slowly working my way though this game for months. I keep playing other games in between but I want to finish it before DS2.

Knushwood Butt80d ago

I ended up with over 140 hours on it, but I wasn't exactly rushing. Ended up seeing to it that all roads were rebuilt too.
There are still a few Half Life missions left that I think I'll do.

lukasmain80d ago

Man I love this game. Platinumed it and played through it a 2nd time just for fun. I'm day 1 with bells on for the sequel

Video Games Proud To Not Be For Everyone

Plenty of games have made a name for themselves as being proud of the fact they’re not to everyone’s taste over the years.

If you make something for everyone, you please no one.

mkis007138d ago

I mean I can do without nintendo games if given the choice. They are not nearly as mature rated as the average.

Yui_Suzumiya138d ago (Edited 138d ago )

Yeah but I use my Switch OLED primarily for anime booba style games (visual novels and JRPG's) and ultra violent FPS's. Far from kid friendly, lol

JohnBLZ138d ago

The problem with that line of though is that games have never been as much "for everyone" as in 2025.
The only thing that's not for everyone in gaming lately is the gatekeeping. Devs will try to appeal to as many people as they can, but if you dare have your own tastes and prefer something a bit more obscure, then you have "L takes" because at the moment, popular opinion equals right opinion.
So devs should simply own the fact they water down their games and go Hollywood to please everybody. Then indies will go back to being trendsetters that are different from AAAs, instead of being roguelike and gacha copycats.

138d ago
JohnBLZ138d ago

Okay, but "games I'm not meant to love" means I won't play them.
Games are for fun. They're their own art, it's a disservice to reduce them to interactive stories. You can focus on making your audience entertained on a positive way and still stand out.

jznrpg137d ago

No game is for everyone. Some games are more mainstream or casual friendly but there is always someone who won’t like it. Same with anything else
