Ugh... I was excited about this game but the more I learn about it the more it feels like homework disguised as a game. I want to play something I can get enveloped into and to get lost in. I really hope I'm wrong about this game but right now I'm having a hard time seeing the "fun" aspect to this game.

Exactly. Fun is a subjective thing anyway. Some people might find walking simulator genre games fun, while others can't stand the concept alone. Death Stranding seems extremely interesting with perhaps a higher emphasis on storytelling than gameplay. I enjoyed MGS4 despite some saying it was boring and just cut scenes, if this is even half of what that game was, this will be a hit in my opinion.

Fun is subjective, but games need to be fun (at least for someone) and a game it's a failure when is not fun for at least a decent amount of the people that bought it. Nobody buys a game expecting to be bored

food for thought. there are some outlier games that don't need to be fun. They just need to be enjoyable. For instance, Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls and Detroit. Those aren't fun to me but they are incredibly enjoyable and immersive. Generally speaking though games do need to be fun.

For all we know she ends up as our mechanic, weve seen some of the enemies, a slice of combat, outposts, equipment, we also seen the shooting gameplay with the tank, We know very little about the game though, with this article it clears up some of the confusion, walking is just one part.

For all we know... she doesn't. We did see a bike, but is that available all game? What about when you need to climb a mountain with your extension ladder? Or cross a river? Or rappel down a crevice? I doubt you get to continue with the bike at that point.

Shooting gameplay with the tank? You mean the small scene where Reedus was crouch walking next to the tank for cover? We did see some shooting when he was in the trenches, and in the Japanese trailer with that big black monster he pulled out a pistol looking weapon.

This is why I want more gameplay info. I don't want anymore story, I'm good on story, the story looks interesting.

Now you're just moving goal posts. Your original comment just complained about sequels and the lack of new IP. It didn't complain about not enough new IP having "hype" which is primarily subjective in nature.

Fairly certain Control and Fallen Order have that same level of hype, btw. A few of the others have good hype, just not as high as Cyberpunk.

I'm out on this as I think I understand you better, bit still disagree with your sentiment of us lacking in new IP hype. I think you're measuring the 1 percent expecting it to have the same quantity as the other percentage. That's just not how it is. It's never been a ton of exceedingly high quality new IP in gaming with tons of hype. You're setting yourself up for disappointment with those requirements.

Sequels are definitely not bad, Borderlands 3 & TLoU 2 are at the top of my most hyped for games.

In my gaming "community" there is next to no hype for this one. And we're a group of gamers that purchase a BUNCH of titles. I'm sure this game will turn out to be good...but there's just not enough of it shown to understand it and to get hyped for it.

I've had an idea knocking around in my head for years about a story driven game which is a long linear journey by car, so I'm not adverse to the basic point of a game being to travel from A to B. Trudging around huge locations on foot and putting up ladders might get tedious before long though.

What game out there doesn't have tedious tasks to do? All games have them in some form. It's just a matter of how well the devs make those tedious tasks more enjoyable to where you don't consider it a tedious task.

Don't forget though, there is some motorcycle you can also use in the game according to trailers. So you wont always be on foot.

I had forgotten about the bike, good point. Every game does have busywork yeah but covering large and, from what I've seen fairly bland and barren areas, on foot isn't something I enjoy particularly. Hopping on and off a bike would be fine though.

Kojima is offering us a new IP that seems to be wrapped around immersion and exploration and he wants this experience to be "Unique" to his own vision and presentation and that's fine, I think the man produces great games and much like how I enjoy a Tarantino film due to his own style and flavor the same goes for how I feel about Kojima and the games he helps to produce.

I see people commenting about it not looking "Fun" which in my eyes just comes across as them not being happy that he isn't delivering a similar experience to everyone else's game, well just don't buy Death Stranding and instead buy one of those "Fun" games, you know ... the kind the industry is already mass producing and injecting their surprise mechanics into anyway.

I mean it may come across as harsh, but its simply the truth ... someone comes along and they deliver something that stands out and as a response it's mass duplicated and they squeeze the lifeblood out of it, examples are Souls games, Battle Royal, Games as a (Live Service), Objective Based shooters (Overwatch types) the bottom line here is that its difficult to think of 4 or 5 games that released this console generation that could be considered truly innovative or a breath of fresh air, and while its too early to say if Death Stranding is any of those things at its core, you can not dispute that its concepts and presentation are completely unique in comparison of what other publishers are pushing out the doors right now.

I'm pretty sure Konami thought turning Metal Gear into a Zombie simulator would have been considered "Fun" too.

I mean at the end of the day I'm going to support Kojima's desire to present the gaming industry with *different* things either way.

Some people can overlook slow moment-to-moment game play if they're deeply engaged in a story. Not every game needs to provide the stimuli and pace of typical action game.

I'm not sold, but this game is going to stay on my radar until release.

Could be a dud or it could be great. Looking forward to finding out in any case.

In the release date reveal trailer there was gameplay that showed Sam shooting so I think the game will have it's slow roaming and story parts and its fast paced action parts also. Having said that, people need to see more before the release date. I'm hoping the TGS gameplay videos blow us away

I don't mind being confused at the moment with the story, I'm sure everything will be clear after a playtrough or two lol. What I really want to understand right now is what the gameplay is really about. I know there will be walking and exploring but will that be it? will there be combat ? will there be stealth? will there be puzzle solving? if yes, how will it all work? I guess will have to wait for the Tokyo Game Show.
